    Ron James was hysterically funny

by lastbelle on 2012-02-19Hamilton Place Theatre - Hamilton

I love Ron James. His stand up show is worth every penny. He keeps you in stitches with good, clean and mostly Canadian content for over an hour and a half. No breaks. He is full of energy and my sides ache from laughing two days later.

Highly Recommend. Will see him again

I wasn't in a particularly jovial mood the day of the performance, and getting downtown for the show was a challenge, but by the end of the show I was exhausted from laughing and completely de-stressed! I think he went close to 2 hrs w/o a break or even stopping for a drink, which is amazing for all the energy he puts out, tons of content and some hilariously long stretches of ranting! He was able to make fun out of regional differences, old people, young people, politics and numerous topics I had no trouble relating to. I saw one negative review mainly focused on his swearing. Yes, I'm sure he did a few times, however I felt he was the cleanest comedian I've seen live in some time so I actual applaud him for not peppering his act with F-bombs as so many do. Overall, he was OUTSTANDING!!!

Very talented. I had not planned on going to a R-rated show. Disappointed in content. Using Jesus every other sentence. Dropping the F boom many times. Would not recommend him to my friends. By the end he just wasn't funny anymore.

Ron James -Amazing energy and verbal pyrotechnics!

by Eddiebaby on 2010-11-14Pantages Playhouse Theatre - Winnipeg

This was my first time to a Ron James show and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Ron puts on a great one-man show. With no props aside from the remarkably diverse range of faces he can make and the motions he can extract from his body, James keeps the chuckles, guffaws, and belly-laughs rolling through nearly 2 hours of non-stop fast-paced high energy comedy. He touches on everything from Tim Horton's to Stephen Harper to mid-life ailments and crises. And everything is done with his characteristically high-powered vocabulary, alliteration ('gentle, German(!), Jesus'), and cultural references. Although it is fun and an entertaining mental workout to try to keep up with all of his cultural allusions (e.g., Hieronymous Bosch) as they leap, spring-loaded from his mind in a seeming stream-of-consciousness rant, you don't have to have a degree in world history to get the jokes. The only minor drawback is that sometimes the mental conveyor belt that feeds Ron all of this high-speed verbiage has a hiccup and leaves him blank for a moment or two. Not to worry, though, Ron is such an accomplished performer that he can easily cover and recover. It does, however, make me think that changing up the pace here and there with a slower, simpler bit or two would allow the audience (and Ron) to catch its breath and make for a more varied and satisfying overall show. On the whole though it is an amazing performance!!
