About

Roxette is a pop-rock duo hailing from Sweden, with Marie Fredriksson on vocals and Per Gessle on guitar and supporting vocals. Before Roxette, both Fredriksson and Gessle had established musical careers in their home country, until joining to record their first Swedish hit single,” Neverending Love.”
From the band's inception in 1986, they achieved international acclaim in the late ‘80s, thanks to Look Sharp!, their commercial breakthrough album. They have sold over 60 million records globally and received gold and platinum awards for their Joyride and Look Sharp! albums. Their greatest hits album was Don't Bore Us, Get to the Chorus, which was followed by a hiatus until 1999, when Have a Nice Day was released, followed by Room Service in 2001. After a 10-year break, Charm School was released in 2011, followed by Travelling in 2012.
Roxette have toured globally, with their 1991 worldwide tour going out to over 1.5 million fans across a challenging schedule of 107 concerts. They have also toured extensively throughout Europe and Latin America, where they have won Platinum awards, and featured at the Night of the Proms, as well as a number of international concerts. They have also received multiple awards, including the Grammys, MTV, Rock Music Awards and more. “Listen to Your Heart” and “It Must Have Been Love” have received BMI awards for notching up over four million plays on the radio.
They are notable for breaking the tricky US market almost by accident, when an American student bought a copy of Look Sharp! home in 1988 and passed it to a local radio station. Popular reception saw Roxette's music rapidly spread to other radio stations, and marked the start of their success on the international market. EMI released The Look in the US in 1989 and it went straight to No. 1 in the American charts, later topping the music charts in 25 countries. Other notable releases include Dressed for Success, Dangerous in 1989, and the hit “It Must Have Been Love,” which featured on the film Pretty Woman and was the band's most successful release, topping the charts globally and going platinum three times. Later releases include Crash! Boom! Bang! in 1994 and Don't Bore Us, Get to the Chorus in 1995. Have a Nice Day was released in 1999.

    Was Awesome

by Moldavia on 2012-09-09MTS Centre - Winnipeg

Roxette performed a very good concert despite their ages. Considering everything she has gone through over the past 10 years with brain tumor and everything she sounded great. There were a few weak spots but that was completely forgivable. Overall it was an awesome concert. Was really great seeing people from all ages, young to pretty old actually, enjoying the concert all out. Glass Tiger was quite good live as well so enjoyed them as well even though I am not really a fan. All in all it was a very good concert and would definitely see them again.

    Fairly good show

by Mrrockker on 2012-09-09MTS Centre - Winnipeg

I saw roxette 20 years ago, the last time they rolled through town. The nice part of The show was unlike a lot of their peers, everyone's voice seemed to hold up well after all these years. Marie, kudos to her for being a warrior after her brain tumor a bunch of years ago, comes off so frail. Very little stage movent, and almost seems as if she's just propped up on stage. It become more noticable as Per and especially the magnificent back up singer prance around the same as Marie did 20 years ago. Downside: the set list is lacking. While I am fully aware roxette has continued past 1994, the majority of North America is not. I think roxettes "new" material stands right next to and In some cases is even bette then the classic songs, however, the majority of the audience does not know (and sadly probably does not care), and got extremely restless after 3 "new" songs, which was followed by Marie's solo Perfect Day, where you could hear chatter from the audience more clear then the song ( and sent more people to the beer lines then I've ever seen in my 25 years of going to concerts), followed by the magificent (and sadly ignored by most the audience as well) Things Will Never Be The Same, then everyone packed in for it must of been love, then 2 "new" songs that again the audience did not recieve well. The restlessness of the crowd was uncomfortable for this stretch.... I'm sure this set list works amazing where roxette never went away, and even for us handful of people that kept up with roxette. But after an absence of 20 years here, where the majority of the crowd thinks your last album was in 1994, the setlist really needed some tweaking to flow better.

roxette and glass tiger - amazing time travel!

    by number1deb on 2012-09-09MTS Centre - Winnipeg

what a fantastic pairing of bands!! a great mix of new and old for glass tiger - awesome vocals from alan, and the band sounds just as smooth now, as they did way back when! roxette wisely chunked their biggest hits into the last half of the show - the energy and crowd participation was palpable! nice to be a part of an entire arena singing along to their anthem songs - so great to be a part of! if you get the chance, GO! and don't forget your 80's get-up - that made the night complete!!

Worst concert I've ever been to!!

    by nicky71 on 2012-09-09MTS Centre - Winnipeg

Just awful, they sounded like a bad karaoke garage band. So bad we gave it till the middle of the third song and left, we were hoping they would get better. Words were forgotten, she mumbled, and sounded at times like she couldn't be bothered like she needed winding up. He was just strange. Didn't sound at all like it was them. Very disappointed. Didn't give the performance of the Roxette I knew and loved. I think they just got old and need to give up. End of the road! Didn't pay that much for tickets but it was still too much. Don't waste your cash!

    Roxette were Amazing

by Gibby75 on 2012-09-02Molson Canadian Amphitheatre - Toronto

Amazing concert. It was so nice to see the full recovery Marie has made. She forgot some lyrics at the beginning and had a couple issues with hitting the high notes, but other than that she was in top form. Per is ageless as ever and put on an amazing show. The sang all of the North American and European hit songs except for Wish I Could Fly, The Centre of the Heart - and anything else from Room Service, which was kind of disappointing, since they sang songs like 7twenty7, but the setlist was still pretty awesome.

Glass Tiger was awesome and wished they were the main act. I was disappointed with Roxette because she barely moved the whole time she sang. Also, she left her top 3 songs to the end rather than scattering them out. Therefore, I found it disappointing because she lost my attention so early in her performance. Glass Tiger rocks. I would rather them 4 stars.
