About

Roxette is a pop-rock duo hailing from Sweden, with Marie Fredriksson on vocals and Per Gessle on guitar and supporting vocals. Before Roxette, both Fredriksson and Gessle had established musical careers in their home country, until joining to record their first Swedish hit single,” Neverending Love.”
From the band's inception in 1986, they achieved international acclaim in the late ‘80s, thanks to Look Sharp!, their commercial breakthrough album. They have sold over 60 million records globally and received gold and platinum awards for their Joyride and Look Sharp! albums. Their greatest hits album was Don't Bore Us, Get to the Chorus, which was followed by a hiatus until 1999, when Have a Nice Day was released, followed by Room Service in 2001. After a 10-year break, Charm School was released in 2011, followed by Travelling in 2012.
Roxette have toured globally, with their 1991 worldwide tour going out to over 1.5 million fans across a challenging schedule of 107 concerts. They have also toured extensively throughout Europe and Latin America, where they have won Platinum awards, and featured at the Night of the Proms, as well as a number of international concerts. They have also received multiple awards, including the Grammys, MTV, Rock Music Awards and more. “Listen to Your Heart” and “It Must Have Been Love” have received BMI awards for notching up over four million plays on the radio.
They are notable for breaking the tricky US market almost by accident, when an American student bought a copy of Look Sharp! home in 1988 and passed it to a local radio station. Popular reception saw Roxette's music rapidly spread to other radio stations, and marked the start of their success on the international market. EMI released The Look in the US in 1989 and it went straight to No. 1 in the American charts, later topping the music charts in 25 countries. Other notable releases include Dressed for Success, Dangerous in 1989, and the hit “It Must Have Been Love,” which featured on the film Pretty Woman and was the band's most successful release, topping the charts globally and going platinum three times. Later releases include Crash! Boom! Bang! in 1994 and Don't Bore Us, Get to the Chorus in 1995. Have a Nice Day was released in 1999.

Roxette certainly delivered with plenty of audience participation and some great moments. To sing along to their hits made this concert very memorable, and I honestly can't think of anything wrong. The entire band shined! So what if Marie cannot hit those high notes like she used to. It's all about the moving to the moment. I was lost in time, and this show was a great way to celebrate my birthday this month!

  • Roxette & Glass Tiger Concert!

by dumbdog on 2012-09-14Rogers Arena - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

My Swedish friend and I went to see this Swedish duo in Vancouver! She saw them in Melbourne long ago! Regarding Glass Tiger; she did not know that she knew some of their songs! She's been here since 1990. I have been here since 1985 so I recognized most of them. Not bad! We really enjoyed Roxette! Brought back old memories from back home! Luckily Marie Fredricksson had her great voice, but she seemed in poor health, very stiff in her movements. Not at all what I recall from seeing her in music videos and on tv. Hope she is doing ok! Very fun night out!

  • Roxette and Glass Tiger were awesome!

by jaimesofia on 2012-09-14Rexel Place - EdmontonRating: 5 out of 5

I had tickets to the Edmonton show and it was fantastic! Glass Tiger sounded phenomenal and Roxette was excellent. I've been to tons of concerts and I have never heard the stadium sing at the top of their lungs to so many songs (which i personally find very cool when the band stops playing for a minute) Really fun concert - extremely happy i went!

  • Fantastic!

Glass Tiger opened with an amazing performance. Performed. a couple of their new songs. Roxette was fantastic! Their lead guitar player left the audience in awe! Had a great time! (Sorry for the upside down pics.)

  • Just OK

by JEEE on 2012-09-12Scotiabank Saddledome - CalgaryRating: 3 out of 5

Show started off with Glass Tiger, played great, but I thought the sound was a bit harsh. Roxette, Sounded better, but the show never seemed to get any momentum going. Enjoyed the songs, band played well, Marie could almost hit the notes from 20 years ago and I thought her voice was great. Per kept the show alive. Don't know that I would recommend this show. In perfect hindsight I wouldn't have gone originally.

  • Absolutely amazing! One of the best concerts ever!

One of the best concerts I have been to in my entire life. Absolutely fantastic. It should set an example for other bands: play songs that people know and want to hear! Thank you Roxette! Please come back soon

  • Come Join the Joyride

by crazydazed on 2012-09-10MTS Centre - WinnipegRating: 4 out of 5

Overall, the show was good. Not the best concert ever, but it was a decent show. He still has it, but she definitely does not have her old voice at her age. This was quite apparent immediately since they had another singer to help fill in. This concert was definitely 75% women with many people outfitted in some sweet eighties outfits.

  • Glass Tiger/ Roxette

by leget on 2012-09-10MTS Centre - WinnipegRating: 3 out of 5

Glass Tiger was fantastic!! Upbeat, lots of energy, great sound. Roxette - definately not as good as they used to be. Some of the beginning seemed off key and the change ups to a couple of the oldies - not so good. Once they got going it got better and better throughout.

This is such an amazing show! Glass Tiger still looks and sounds like a million bucks. Canada is so proud to call them our own. This is a must see show.

  • Some Retro Fun

    by GMan0007 on 2012-09-09MTS Centre - WinnipegRating: 2 out of 5

I've gone to a ton of retro bands in the past few years and many of the concerts have been very fun. We had a good time at this one as well, but it was the weakest retro concert I've been to. Glass Tiger was more nostalgic to me than Roxette, and yet I was a bigger fan of Roxette back in the day. I had seen both in concert when the bands were in their prime, and when I saw Roxette hit the stage now, I couldn't help but think I had bought tickets to see The Wiggles. None the less, if you love these bands, you'll probably get pleasure out of the concert.
