San Diego FC History

San Diego FC joined Major League Soccer as the 30th team in the league ahead of the 2025 regular season. Announced as an expansion team in May 2023, southern California’s third active franchise solidified the region as a professional soccer hub in the United States while becoming the state’s fourth club overall. San Diego FC’s name and shield were unveiled in October 2023, revealing an 18-line interlocked design representing San Diego County’s 18 cities called “The Flow.” In December 2024, San Diego FC assembled its first roster during the MLS Expansion Draft. San Diego FC set their preseason debut for February 2025 at the Coachella Valley Invitational, followed by their first MLS regular season match at home on March 1 against St. Louis City SC.

San Diego FC at Snapdragon Stadium

San Diego FC’s home pitch is Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego, California. Located on the Mission Valley campus of San Diego State University, Snapdragon Stadium also hosts the SDSU Aztecs football team and the NWSL’s San Diego Wave FC. Snapdragon Stadium served as a neutral site for the 2023 NWSL Championship and has held exhibition matches for the United States men’s and women's national soccer teams, Manchester United and more. In 2024, the 35,000-seat venue was selected to host the annual Holiday Bowl college football game. Inside the 35,000-seat venue, fans can find the San Diego FC Supporter Section between sections 136 and 140 on the north end of Snapdragon Stadium.
