  • Santana great, venu sux

by OriginalFan on 2011-09-02Credit Union Centre - SaskatoonRating: 3 out of 5

One of the best guitarists of the genre, and it was incredible to hear him play. The band was so tight and innovative. I am so happy I have finally got to hear him live. But OMG, the venue! A hockey rink? The sound was bad for the first two numbers, muddy, couldn't distinguish instruments, the bass overpowered even the three drum kits! Fortunately it was toned down and re-balanced before the "big hits" started. It still was never a "great" sound from the stage. There was a large screen behind the band that showed close-ups of them while playing, and a lot of other neat stuff (video clips, etc). HOWEVER, the seats we were in only see less than half of the screen! There was a huge bank of speakers hanging in front of it. We were not told when we bought tix that the seats had obstructed view. Isn't that just a common courtesy? Shouldn't I have paid less because of that? Instead, I paid a $12 "convenience" fee on top of the ticket price. So, go see Santana if you get the chance, he and his band are great. But stay away from CUC for anything but a hockey game.

  • Santana...A NIght to Remember

by Doreenha on 2011-09-02Credit Union Centre - SaskatoonRating: 5 out of 5

The opening band Frantic was fantastic!! Great energy and stage presence!! The reason I traveled 2 hours..SANTANA!!! It was my first time seeing the man himself!! I am usually not stumped for words but the first word that comes to my mind is memorizing, then heart- wrenching and last of all...soul searching!! I loved every moment of the evening,,.. and 2 and half hours later, I wanted more.. I did not want the evening to end,.. No encore but it was not required, Santana had done it all already!! Magnifico!!!

  • Sublime

    by SanFan1 on 2011-09-02Scotiabank Saddledome - CalgaryRating: 5 out of 5

Santana blew me away all over again.! The backdrop video with the flashbacks to the concert in Germany and elsewhere, was heart rendering. I always loved Santana's music and thought he was marvellous ... well over 30 some odd years later, I'm struggling to find the words to capture his amazing talent and being. Go. See. Hear. He will penetrate your soul.

  • cambió mi vida

by JMSASKATOON on 2011-09-02Credit Union Centre - SaskatoonRating: 5 out of 5

A living legend who performed at Woodstock, and his 50 years of stage experience showed. Brilliant musicianship, spectacular sound quality, good connection with the audience. By the end of the first song I felt like an honorary Latino and I apologize for any damage I may have caused to the seat back while playing air conga for 2 hours. This was the second time in my life I have been to a Santana concert, and will grab every opportunity to see him and his amazing band for the rest of my life. P.S. Makes me want to learn Spanish now...lol

  • Musical Voyage of the Spirit - Carlos Santana

    by quinny55 on 2011-09-02Credit Union Centre - SaskatoonRating: 5 out of 5

I first saw Carlos Santana in the mid 70's and I use to put a one word or one short phrase as a description of the concert on the back of the stub to each concert I attended. It read "melting point". Well, over 30 years later I'm here to tell you that one of my spiritual leaders still makes you melt. His gift to us is so rare and so beautiful that if must be shared. Anyone even considering spending the money to see one of the greatest guitarist the world has ever know should know he still has it and if anything has it more than he ever did. Don't delay, go see the man, the legend. I hadn't seen Carlos in almost 20 years but his love for his fellow man and music has not diminished and it will be a night to remember for many years to come. Do your soul a service and see Santana and his unbelievable band.

This was one of the best live shows I have been to. The lights and video were fabulous additions to the stage show, and the sound was the best arena sound I have ever heard. Great music, great energy, great show! The entire band was outstanding and Santana's playing was impeccable- truly felt that we were in the presence of Greatness.

  • Awesome guitar playing legend!

by Soni on 2011-09-02Credit Union Centre - SaskatoonRating: 5 out of 5

Enjoyed the energy and music which was performed. It was wonderful to see Carlos Santana and experience his talent. We enjoyed the opening act as well. Great concert!

  • Very Entertaining

by Nammie on 2011-09-02Credit Union Centre - SaskatoonRating: 4 out of 5

He played alot of his oldies, and some newer ones, and some cover tunes as well. His guitar playing is still among the best I've heard, considering he's 64 now. Very nice stage presence. Solos by the rest of the band with their individual instruments perhaps went longer than needed, but it was tolerable.

  • There is a reason Carlos Santana is a legend!

by Cactusflower on 2011-09-02Scotiabank Saddledome - CalgaryRating: 5 out of 5

Carlos provided superb hours of displaying his eclectic mastery of some of the best music in the world. We went to the concert last year and found having his musicians on the screen as they were individually displaying their craft this year was wonderful. A thoroughly enjoyable experience.

  • Crossed the boundary from Music to Noise!

by Sharleen on 2011-09-02Credit Union Centre - SaskatoonRating: 2 out of 5

Unfortunately, I didn't enjoy the Santana concert as much as I hoped. Santana is a fantastic guitar player and no one can take that away from him, but the "blue skyying" jam style with no definitive end to a song or beginning was a bit much. The music moved from bongo solo to base solo to drummer solo to bongo solo to trumpet solo to a bit by Santana... sounded like a grade 6 music class warming up for a concert. Disappointing. However, his warm up band was amazing.

We thought this concert was awesome. The lightshow sometimes made you feel like you were in Vegas. The sound was perfectly mixed and not too loud. The atmosphere was that of a street dance/party.

  • Awesome

by Milbose on 2011-09-02Credit Union Centre - SaskatoonRating: 5 out of 5

An amazing show. Every single performer was outstanding, from the trumpet player to Michael Franti! Best energy I have felt in a concert in my life. Michael's and Carlos' Love of what they do and their passion for the people they perform for comes through like no one else I have ever seen. Thanks to them for fulfilling our love of live music

  • Crazy good!

by frantigirl on 2011-09-02Credit Union Centre - SaskatoonRating: 5 out of 5

I bought tickets to the event because I really wanted to see Michael Franti and Spearhead. Santana was just going to be a bonus, because in my head, Franti was my headliner. I knew I'd love Santana too, but it well exceded my expectations. It was fabulous with the Mexican flair. His singers were great too.

  • I loved Michael Fronti and Spearhead -opening act

by catv on 2011-09-02Rogers Arena (formerly General Motors Place) - VancouverRating: 4 out of 5

Michael Fronti's interaction with the audience was fun. He really set the mood with his up spirit and enthusiasm. The energy was awsome!! Carlos Santana always has a message to deliver. His music and talent are exceptional as are that of his band. Never disappointing his fans.
