  • Sensational Santana!!

by MiniMouse on 2011-09-01Scotiabank Saddledome - CalgaryRating: 5 out of 5

Fantastic showcase of the life work of Carlos Santana. He gives lots of airtime to his band, and to individual members to do solos and show off their own work, then they all come together to make beautiful music. Carlos is the Master - his guitar work and musical compositions are simply brilliant, and at his age, he is as limber and energetic as he was 20 years ago. Although there was a bit of staged insincerity in his mantra of Love, Light, Peace, it was still a good message. They left the audience on a high note, after playing for over 2 hours, non-stop. Michael Franti opened for Santana, and joined him onstage near the end of the show. Franti is a ball of energy and good vibes, and his music and lyrics were a great start to a sensational evening of music.

I was fortunate enough to have seats on the floor in the 7th row and was at the end of the row so I could dance to one of my favorite bands! Carlos is such a beautiful soul and full of light and love. This was a dream come true to see Santana live!!

It was a great show and very personal. Lot's of messages to the crowd and it really showed what is in Carlos's heart. Michael Franti was awesome and interacted with the crowd in a fantastic and personal way.

  • Santana masterful in unforgettable performance!!

    by ericsven63 on 2011-09-01Rexall Place - EdmontonRating: 5 out of 5

TM from the Journal seemed to be kind of wishy washy and on the fence with his review, but I for one thought the performance by Santana and his band was first rate. This was the first time I had the fortune of seeing him live - and I was looking forward with anticipation all summer. I am fascinated by his skill and the way he plays with his soul - with his heart. I love the way he encourages each member of his band to do the same. I took my sons with me to the concert and they enjoyed it as well - an opportunity to see one of the greats - someone who played at Woodstock!! I liked the way he went from one song into the other - I am not one for alot of talk in between. I am at a concert to hear music!!

The concert was totally wonderful! I had never been to Santana concert before even if I always really liked his guitar playing and was totally amazed. I would go back if he returned to Edmonton again.

  • Santana at Rexall

    by SandyBeach1 on 2011-09-01Rexall Place - EdmontonRating: 4 out of 5

First of all - there is no doubt that Carlos Santana is an incredible musician. There are few out there that can match is abilities and to continue playing at the same level for the past 40+ years is just amazing. I love to listen to his music and we frequently have his music on at home and in the car. From a concert perspective however, I was somewhat disappointed. I found the concert lacked a flow or consistent level of energy - too many impromptu drum solos and personal acclamations of how the world should be set right. I'm not a cynic - I just think he made his point a little too often - it may be a testament to the years of partaking in the Acapulco Red. Also - I love Santana's music (his actual music) and so I was disappointed by the number of covers that he did - AC/DC, Fleetwood Mac, Miami Sound Machine, a little Michael Jackson - there's no doubt that he can take a piece of music and turn it something more amazing - I guess I was hoping to hear more of just Santana. Gus Rodriguez was simply perfect on bass - one of my highlights of the evening. Overall - an enjoyable evening - just missed a bit of the mark for myself.

  • Santana Reinvented

by Salt on 2011-09-01Rexall Place - EdmontonRating: 5 out of 5

Reinvented, rejuvenated, revitalized!! We were truly amazed at the old and the new in this brilliant show. Santana's talent can not be matched but to put this package of entertainers together to create such a memorable evening is magical. Thank you!!

  • Great Show

    by flygirl1017 on 2011-09-01Scotiabank Saddledome - CalgaryRating: 5 out of 5

Was a great Show, great Music. Micheal Franchi(?) and the Spearheads were awesome too! Really impressed by them. Santana is always great but their Vegas Show seemed to have way more effort put into it than the Calgary show......but Calgary cost way more money!

  • EXCEPTIONAL ARTISTS

by cocorico on 2011-09-01Scotiabank Saddledome - CalgaryRating: 5 out of 5

Not only the show started at 7:30 pm but all the other elements, music, sound, lights, stage were professionally done - no amateur work. Santana is an artist who respects his audience and creates a unique bond through his music.

  • Santana, like no other

Great music, great sound an organization great musicians what else can you ask for?

  • Very Poor Sound

by Chickeedee on 2011-08-31Rogers Arena (formerly General Motors Place) - VancouverRating: 3 out of 5

When Santana started playing, after being wound up by the opening act, the crowd went quiet. The song they played was absolute garbage - no melody - just a lot of noise (kind of reminded me of the 60's when my brother's band practiced with their brand new electric guitars - it was crap then and it still is just noise). After getting used to the noise - the brass started in, but my eardrums took a beating as the trumpet's volume was up so high on that first note that I thought I had blown an ear drum. Santana's music choices got better after that and he regained our confidence. However, what was with the keyboard player - he was hitting notes that were not in tune with the rest of the band - so much so that they had to play louder just to drown him out. Then there was the singers who went unheard as their mike volumes were too low and were being drowned out by the band. I don't know if Roger's Arena is to blame for the sound screw ups or if it was Santana's own crew responsible. Whoever was responsible needs to be fired. It's a tragedy as my husband and I have waited a long time to be lucky enough to be in Vancouver at the same time when Santana was in town. We are still big fans!

  • Love yet disappointed

by Wendylouhey on 2011-08-31Scotiabank Saddledome - CalgaryRating: 3 out of 5

Ok. I'm 55 and grew up as as a teenager listening to Santana. I wanted to hear all the old tunes from the 70's. It broke my heart that he didn't play Samba Pa Ti. Oh well the rest of the show was fantastic. I could live without all the philosophical junk though...
