  • Santana Ripped it up!

by Highlands on 2010-07-13Molson Canadian Amphitheatre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Best concert I've seen all summer! Santana really interacted well with the crowd. I really liked it when they asked everyone to stand up. The security were kind of strict about standing up at your seat. What is with that? Used to be my favourite venue!

excellent concert and individual performances by the drummers and key board player carlos was the best seen him in vegas 3 years ago and he just gets better.the last few sets were very loud and it sounded like a weak jammin session.

Steve Winwood is underrated...The band was fabulous, well done!, Had a blast listening to Carlos Santana absolutely fantastic guitaring! The singer was so entertaining... All In all a wonderful time to be had under the balmy summer skies!

Had a great time, BUT we would have loved to have Steve Winwood perform with Santana

  • Fantastic show!!

by Bedrockbabe on 2010-07-13Molson Canadian Amphitheatre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

If you want to get your money's worth, I highly recommend this show!! All the musicians were outstanding and really looked like they were having a great time on stage. Carlos and the band certainly brought their A-Game!! The sound was a little off for Steve Winwood and his set was a little drawn out but his voice is still strong.

  • Santana was a bitter disappointment

by Phido on 2010-07-13Molson Canadian Amphitheatre - TorontoRating: 1 out of 5

I had the good fortune of seeing this master guitarist before and was keenly looking forward to seeing him again.I had brainwashed my two sons to attend with me promising a great show. Winwood was great and anticipation was high for Santana. I was lucky enough to hear 2 or 3 short riffs from his guitar but all else was drowned out by two wailing banshees who were his front men. Also an ear splitting horn section, which I am sure caused permanent damage with the racket they produced. After being subjected to this for 20 min. I took a vote with my sons to stay or leave, the leave side won an overwhelming victory. Maybe it got better and I will never know, but I still have my memories from watching him in Edmonton with Jethro Tull and his albums/cds when he was great. However this show was not to my liking and I had come to 'hear' Carlos Santana not be subjected to that crap which totally overpowered his playing. The show sucked.

  • Great Santana show

    by DNB7 on 2010-07-12Molson Canadian Amphitheatre - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

Naïvely didn't realise it would be such a latino based show, but was a great surprise, wicked groove all night long.. I only went to see some guitar artistry but every musician in his band were all stars. Carlos played great, the singers he chose suited all the songs, again, a great latino swing all night long, i didn't sit down for very long....

  • Steve Winwood_Santana

by rockit on 2010-07-12Molson Canadian Amphitheatre - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

Awesome Winwood did Low Spark Of High Heeled Boys & Dear Mr. Fantasy. That alone was worth the price of admission. Gimme Some Lovin, I'm A Man. Then Santana just kicked. Lots of jamming type rock and roll with an 11 piece band including 2 drummers and a bongo player, horns and 2 vocalists.

  • Unforgettable!!!

It was absolutely great concert. Enjoyed every moment!

  • Santana - First time but not the last

by Zest on 2010-07-12Molson Canadian Amphitheatre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

I loved the casual way that both performers opened their acts. No introduction, they just walked on stage and almost immediately started playing. I've been a long time Steve Winwood fan, so seeing him here was like a bonus. Started and ended with the Spencer Davis Group classics I'm A Man and Gimme Some Lovin'. Did a number of vintage classics including Higher Love. Only a 4 man group so some of his numbers lacked the depth of background vocals and brass that his recordings display. He's be a great act to see at a small venue or even a good club. (ie The Phoenix or House of Blues in Myrtle Beach). Played for a little over an hour. Carlos surrounds himself with great musicians and it really works. The crowd excitement and responsiveness just builds and builds during the concert.(Well for most people. I'll never understand people who just sit there and never interact) Carlos covered all his big time commercial hits and introduced a number of new items that are rumoured to be on a new fall CD of classic R&R numbers (hint - The Doors). Played for about 2 hours. By the end everyone around me was sweating and exhausted. He did two of his usual (I'm told) monologues about his philosophy of life and how the world could be so much better and peaceful. In some respects he's still carrying the Woodstock flame. How good was this concert? Well my top 3 were Bonnie Raitt at Myrtle Beach, The Eagles at the ACC and Eric Clapton at the ACC. Sorry Eric but you've been pushed into the "tin medal" fourth position now. Would I repeat? In a minute. PS I would really love to luck into the same seats - 5th row centre stage. Big thank-you to the guy from Columbus who had an extra.

This was such an amazing concert - The crowd sucks - no one moved got up or showed their appreciation to the great entertainment on the stage whether it was Steve Winwood or Carlos Santana

  • Santana was the best concert I have seen this year

by Joeleo on 2010-07-12Molson Canadian Amphitheatre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

I have been to several concerts this year and I was incredibly impressed with Santana. The band members all seemed to be extremely passionate about their music and very skilled. The sound quality was good and the venue allowed everyone to feel a part of the event.

STEVE WINWOOD was good in the time he had but the outright winner was CARLOS SANTANA and his band . THEY put on a high energy show for all ages to enjoy. THE music the interplay between the band and the audience was first rate. I couldnt stay in my seat that LATIN ROCK RHTHYM got me moving. THUMBS UP.

I watched first time on live. He is still excellent. His band has the best drummers of all sort. The sound and lighting mached with the event. Steve Wood performance was good as well. he is good on guiter and key board

Great energy. Concert was great. Both my wife and myself loved it

  • Santana with Steve Winwood

by MammaKat on 2010-07-12Molson Canadian Amphitheatre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Amazing from start to finish! Steve Winwood still has amazing pipes and can belt it out like he always did! The guitars, percussion, keyboard and Vocals performed by all the artists was exceptional. I wish I had bought a bunch of $10 tickets when I was at Jethro Tull and dragged my boss and kids along, they would have loved it! To some of the ladies out there - REMEMBER YOUR AGE AND DRESS ACCORDINGLY - if you don't know what I mean watch some "What Not to Wear" and find out! Save the skin tight pleather pants, knee high biker boots and tanks for the Younger ladies to display their assets and entice the young men! There were quite a few Elegant gals out there with awesome bods and the inside scoop on how to dress their awesomeness.... Oh the same goes for the men!

  • Steve& Carlos Amazing

This concert was great, well worth the money... Steve Windwood sounded great, just like his albums...He is aging very well.He looks good and sounds even better... Santana was amazing...What a guitarist!!!!! One thing to other concert goers...People stand up at concerts if you don't like it stay home and pop your cds into your players or turn on your IPODS... I was disappointed that the people behind me actually asked me to sit down...Its a feaking concert...Thank you Carlos for asking everyone to get on their feet...Too funny... Great show boys....

  • Santana, the power of the band

by Progfan on 2010-07-12Molson Canadian Amphitheatre - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

I will start with Steve Winwood. Although I have always admired his multitude of talents, he disappointed me this time, Proven hits from the past did not sound powerfully enough, his solos were too long and too predictable, and his band as a whole sounded professionally but it lacked passion and enthusiasm. Vocally though , Winwood still shines. As for Santana no dissapointment here, From the first note you knew these are the people that mean business, excellent musicians which ,I think, helped Carlos a bit. He is still a superior guitar player but you could tell, he relies heavily on the band when it comes to musical texture and his solos were not as fresh and inventive as those from the past, which is understandable though. Overall his performance was memorable, latino rhytms made you dance in the isles and you only wished that "Samba Pa Ti" or "Europa" filled your ears.
