Santana, the power of the band
by Progfan on 2010-07-12Molson Canadian Amphitheatre - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5I will start with Steve Winwood. Although I have always admired his multitude of talents, he disappointed me this time, Proven hits from the past did not sound powerfully enough, his solos were too long and too predictable, and his band as a whole sounded professionally but it lacked passion and enthusiasm. Vocally though , Winwood still shines.
As for Santana no dissapointment here, From the first note you knew these are the people that mean business, excellent musicians which ,I think, helped Carlos a bit. He is still a superior guitar player but you could tell, he relies heavily on the band when it comes to musical texture and his solos were not as fresh and inventive as those from the past, which is understandable though. Overall his performance was memorable, latino rhytms made you dance in the isles and you only wished that "Samba Pa Ti" or "Europa" filled your ears.
