About

Sarah McLachlan is one of most distinctive female vocalists after breaking out in the ’90s behind singles such as “Building a Mystery” and “I Will Remember You.” With 1994’s Fumbling Towards Ecstasy, McLachlan became a star. The album peaked at number 50 on the Billboard 200 chart and number five on the Canada Top Albums/CDs chart. As of 2023, Fumbling Towards Ecstasy has been certified platinum three times in the United States. McLachlan released her debut album Touch in 1988. Her 1997 effort Surfacing debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and hosted her three highest-charting Hot 100 singles: “Building a Mystery,” at No. 13, “Adia” at No. 3 and “Angel” at No. 4. The album went on to win two Grammy Awards. Surfacing coincided with the first Lilith Fair, the wildly successful all-female touring festival co-founded and hosted by McLachlan that took place from 1997 through 1999. In 2003, Afterglow marked McLachlan’s third consecutive Top 10 album, and she maintained that streak with studio albums released through 2014’s Shine On. McLachlan has won 12 JUNO Awards and in 2017 was inducted into The Canadian Music Hall of Fame.

Sarah McLachlan - School of Music Night

by Wendy Norbom on 2024-04-28Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

What a joyful experience, like a concert in her living room. It opened with the performances of students from SMSOM. It took me back to being a teenager, playing the piano after my RCM Exam. How frightened I was to perform in the Jubilee. I just loved their ability and courage to come out and play for a full house. I can only imagine how proud they were, their families and Sarah - with her passion for this endeavor. Sarah invited Serena Ryder, an added bonus, to perform. Serena was amazing - what talent. She blew me away and was so interactive with the audience. I thoroughly enjoyed her performance. Sarah shared the backstories for her song inspirations. I have seen her perform several times because I have been a "fan"from the very beginning. Her songs are the soundtrack of my own life. Both performers played one instrument and sang. Sarah had an exceptional accompanist/singer. So much talent to make you play your instrument and sing so beautifully. The gift of Sarah is once in a lifetime. And Serena is another gifted performer. Additionally, the venue is amazing. I love the Jubilee. The cost of the refreshments and snacks was superb, Sarah's swag staff were pleasant and helpful, the venue employees were so kind and ready to assist. I dislike going to Roger's Place - way to expense to park and refreshments are outrageous. I love the experience of a smaller crowd and am willing to pay more for that. I would also like to donate to SMSOM and be present for fundraisers help for them. This is an awesome gift for our children. I loved music all through school and as I understand, many children do not experience what was more or less normal, when I was a child. Thank you for an exceptional experience! Hopefully, Sarah will come back for the Fumbling Towards Ecstasy Tour. I'd love to see her again.

    In Top Form

by Robert M on 2024-04-23Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

I didn't know what to expect - It has been thirty-five years since Sarah McLachlan released her first album, thirty years since she graced the world with her third album, Fumbling Towards Ecstasy, and twenty-five years since she last ruled the charts and stadiums with Lilith Fair. But in 2024, her voice has lost none of the lustre, control, and passion and she remains as charming, compassionate, and confessional as ever. This was a bit of a "warm-up"benefit show for her own charity, "Sarah McLachlan School of Music"and featured, as a surprise, Serena Ryder, whose grit and raunch complemented Sarah's sweet melodies perfectly. Sarah will be touring several North American cities to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of Fumbling Towards Ecstasy and I would not hesitate to attend one of those shows, given the flawless performance I witnessed on Saturday Night. Sarah McLachlan is one of the most gifted artists Canada has produced and I am thrilled that she is performing again.

    Sarah Mclachlan April 20

by Ashley on 2024-04-23Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

Excellent event. Could not recommend more. Generally I am not impressed with the sound at the Jube, but you could tell that her team had definitely figured that out. Wonderful evening.

Great performer, not so great venue

    by Curator05 on 2023-08-26

I’ve seen Sarah M half a dozen times and she’s always fantastic. Her vocals are beautiful and dynamic. She always shares the behind the scene inspiration for her songs so the concerts feel intimate and genuine. The show was a little shorter than the norm, but with only her and her cellist to carry the show, I felt she performed a full show. She sang “Nothing Compares 2 U” as a tribute to the late Sinead O’Conner, which was incredibly moving. I did not like the venue (Grey Eagle Casino). The lobby area smells horribly of cigarette smoke and floor seating is not inclined so if you’re short, it can be more challenging to have a good view. There are screens projecting her performance, but the point of attending a live concert isn’t to watch a screen. Hope to see her back at the Jubilee or Jack Singer one day.

    Magical

    by PG on 2023-08-25

One of the best concerts I have ever been to. Great sound stage. Sarah was incredible. I saw her in 1993. She still has the most beautiful voice. Vanessa sang harmony perfectly. Her cello playing was a nice touch. The audience (including myself) could be heard singing along. I had goose bumps through the whole show!

    Truly wonderful concert!

    by Anne on 2023-08-22

This was the first time we've seen Sarah McLachlan perform live and the concert was excellent. No glitz and glamour - just Sarah singing and playing the piano or guitar and her accompanist playing the cello and singing harmony. The venue was full, showing how much people love to hear her music. Her warm manner and explanation of some of the songs made us feel connected to her and to her life experiences. A great evening with a wonderful performer and musician!
