About

Sarah McLachlan is one of most distinctive female vocalists after breaking out in the ’90s behind singles such as “Building a Mystery” and “I Will Remember You.” With 1994’s Fumbling Towards Ecstasy, McLachlan became a star. The album peaked at number 50 on the Billboard 200 chart and number five on the Canada Top Albums/CDs chart. As of 2023, Fumbling Towards Ecstasy has been certified platinum three times in the United States. McLachlan released her debut album Touch in 1988. Her 1997 effort Surfacing debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and hosted her three highest-charting Hot 100 singles: “Building a Mystery,” at No. 13, “Adia” at No. 3 and “Angel” at No. 4. The album went on to win two Grammy Awards. Surfacing coincided with the first Lilith Fair, the wildly successful all-female touring festival co-founded and hosted by McLachlan that took place from 1997 through 1999. In 2003, Afterglow marked McLachlan’s third consecutive Top 10 album, and she maintained that streak with studio albums released through 2014’s Shine On. McLachlan has won 12 JUNO Awards and in 2017 was inducted into The Canadian Music Hall of Fame.

    Lilith Rocks Again!

by Finest on 2010-06-28McMahon Stadium - Calgary

All the acts were simply amazing! Some well known to me and some new. The energy in the stadium was electric! Couldn't have been a better day all around!

    Summer Fun!

by VisViva on 2010-06-28McMahon Stadium - Calgary

Lilith is resurrected! All of the artists on the Calgary line-up were having fun with their performances and spreading that good feeling to the audience. The outdoor festival feel enhanced the 'summer days' attitude of the event. Laid back, excellent quality performers and a lighthearted feel is exactly what one needs after the last couple of hard months. Get to Lilith!

    Lillith Fair

by patrishn on 2010-06-28McMahon Stadium - Calgary

Although the entertainment was very good there were a number of challenges that most encountered. Firstly, trying to find some information about the times of the different performers so if a person did not want to go early, they could make sure they were there in time for their favorites - no info even on the net. Secondly, a few days before the concert,I received a phone message that our seats had been upgraded. The upgrade was closer to the front but since it was away over to the side, it was very difficult to see and we all ended up with sore necks! The original seats although 7 rows back were much better for viewing. We were very disappointed!

    Lilith

    by LMB1 on 2010-06-28McMahon Stadium - Calgary

This event was very, very unorganized. Even before the concert the advertising was poor and there was no schedule available on line leading up to the show. There were lengthy line ups to get into the venue, then it was crowded and unorganized inside. No one knew what time singers were appearing. We stumbled upon the "small stage" events purely by accident. That area was very crowed and unorganized. The "main stage" singers didn't start until 5:30 PM. The main stage acts ran late so Sarah did not start until 10 PM. By this time we were tired and bored and left after one song. A very "sleepy" performer to leave until the end of the show. I WOULD NEVER ATTEND THIS EVENT AGAIN!!!!

lilith not dead, but needs an organizer.

by jleebean on 2010-06-28McMahon Stadium - Calgary

Awesome music. - enjoyed every artist. and Sarah was amazing! (fabulous live performer) The venue: 2 hr lines to get in? 2 people searching 9000 backpacks. Yes people, check world events. It apparently is women that present the threat to world peace and the safety of any gathering. Event was held over the evening, yet there was an endless line to get anything to eat- only a few food venues were open - lots were shuttered for the event. A no reentry policy also meant no option of going anywhere the food was either healthier or more convenient. There was an endless line to get lemonade while you could virtually walk right up to the bar. In spite of this, they ran out of white wine by 5:30! Really people, 9000 women. I notice there was lots of beer left. WHO THOUGHT ANY OF THIS THROUGH?

    sugarland was damn good

by Gryphon on 2010-06-28McMahon Stadium - Calgary

We were very disappointed to arrive at 2:00 p.m. and to find out that the concert didn't start til 5:30 p.m. When we asked if we could leave and come back we were told "no." Of course we didn't take warm clothing or supplies as we thought the concert would be over by 7:00 p.m.. I checked the Lileth website for a schedule and could not find one. Being stuck at McMahon Stadium for 9 hours is too long.

Great entertainment esp that last three artists

by Nesa on 2010-06-28McMahon Stadium - Calgary

I missed the fouth last artist as I was in line for food. The entertainment ran late so Sarah Mclaughlin was cut short..BAD stage management! The venue did not pass. There were huge and long lineups for food and they ran out of so many items. They MUST have known how many people were coming. Maybe venders going up the stands with food and drinks would cut down on the long lineups. Very poorly advertised as the second and third stage?? There should have been more than one door open for admission....again long lineups! .

    Great Music But Poor Planning

by youngnwild on 2010-06-28McMahon Stadium - Calgary

Well to start the event doors were locked when we showed up. The tickets said start at 2:30 - the doors were opened at 2:30pm. It took 45 minutes to get into the venue! As we were walking in an attendant was saying if you had a bag or purse go to thru the bag check in all other come straight thru. No one outside advising people in these huge line ups of this expectation. As we go into the event - No event schedule was handed out. So, we had no idea what to expect. We found our seats and overheard thru another that the events didn't start on the mainstage until 5:30pm. It was now 3:15 and we had just over 2 hours to kill. So, we went to see what else was going on. We had noticed a tented area in the parking lot that they only entrance into was thru the inside of the venue. So we went there. There was a artist playing. Again, thru speaking with another we found out who the artist was. It would have been nice to have an schedule or even names posted at the tents. That being said, we found out she was Kate Miller Heidke, she was very entertaining and fun. We purchased her cd and off we went to hear more ... but were disappointed on the next act. Finally, 5:20 and we had an artist on the mainstage.... no idea what her name was but the music was good. Again annoucements would have been great! - Also, BIG SCREENS for those of us who where not on the field. It sucked not being able to see the artist. But I will say that the music was really good for the most part... The only act was somebdoy named Erica D....something...We did not enjoy her music at all. Sheryl Crow, Jennifer Nettles, Sarah McLauglin were fabulous! Unfortunately, the event venue ran out of time and so did Sarah which sucked because she wasn't on stage very long and I am sure there were songs missed. The one we would of loved to hear was Miracle but it didn't get played as time was to short for her performance. Overall the Music was great....but the planning really needs to be improved upon!

by kpcalgary on 2010-06-28McMahon Stadium - Calgary

The music was fabulous, the artists were genuinely grateful for their audience and the weather was beautiful. Unfortunately, the event organizers dropped the ball in many areas: I paid for a Silver Ticket VIP Package (not small change!) hoping to secure a great seat, which it was, until those having purchased General Admittance tickets, were allowed to stand right in front of me!! This issue created one of the most negative atmosphere's I have ever experienced at a concert, with people pushing others out of the way and arguing to try and secure the line of sight that they had paid a LOT of money for. I definitely wouldn't bother paying for any of the VIP packages unless you can be guaranteed that general admittance ticket holders are kept away from in front of your seats. I lined up for food (30 minutes), only to be informed once finally reaching the service attendant that there was nothing available to eat. You think they could have announced to those of us waiting that if we wanted food there wasn't any and we would have to try somewhere else! As well, very few people knew where the VIP area was and the directions to get to it got us to a spot that had been barracaded off and even though we had all the necessary paperwork, wrist band, etc. we were not allowed in?? We finally found our way there to line up again for some pretty meager snacks. I also chose to purchase this VIP ticket because of the contribution to various charities. News reports today suggest that only $1.00 of my ticket price went to charity. If this is true, this is appalling and even if they do another Lilith, I won't be attending.

    A few favorites

by Bull on 2010-06-28McMahon Stadium - Calgary

My new discovery was Kate Miller-Heidke who is fantastic! My re-discovery was Sheryl Crow, forgot how much I liked her! Sugarland were AMAZING - a major highlight. The event was behind schedule, so Sarah McLaughlin had to be cut short due to time curfews - that was disappointing. Erika Badyu - skip this one! What a diva, and she thought she was in the States!!! McMahon stadium did a terrible job hosting the venue. Line ups, line ups and more line ups! One food concession for thousands of people - ridiculous, a real shame as it had a real negative impact on the event. They need to communicate the line-up. Put it on the webpage before hand so people know what to expect!

    Music in Calgary

by LilithYYC on 2010-06-28McMahon Stadium - Calgary

Overall, the event was a success. I missed all the performances in on the smaller stages as this information was not available on the website nor was I given a schedule when I entered the stadium. There were very long (half hour) line ups to enter the building, food and beverages. The only lineup that moved quickly was the washroom! The music line up on the mainstage was fantastic and enjoyed the day.

Enjoyed concert ... once it started.

by CindyS on 2010-06-28McMahon Stadium - Calgary

From the top - - Thank you for organizing an outdoor summer concert event where friends can get together to enjoy themselves. I find that we don't have enough of these types of events. - Venue was perfect for this event. - I was unable to find a schedule of when the title bands started to play on the internet websites; should have had a schedule posted when the main bands started playing. I would have planned my day differently had I known the schedule. - I waited in the lineup to get in for about an hour. There could have been more stations setup checking bags and tickets. - I felt that I wasted 3 hours of my day waiting around with essentially nothing to do until the bands started playing at 5:30pm. - I found the setup disorganized. People didn't seem to know what was going on. Spoke with many people and overheard people say the same thing. - there weren't enough food options, lineups were too long. Someone said to me that they waited 1 1/2 hrs. for fries and a hot dog. That is ridiculous. The hot food continually ran out with people standing around waiting to see if more food was coming. I found this irresponsible as there was never a shortage of alcohol. - The bands were great. I enjoyed all but one band. - The presence of police/security was noticeable which was good. - It was nice to see that kids were there too and that this could be a family event. - I saw only one beach ball being batted around the crowd. Might have been nice if organizers could have had some more for the crowd. I think this creates a summer concert type of atmosphere. - Sarah McLachlan was finally on stage only to be kicked off due to a curfew. This is poor planning and the main show was at least 30 min behind schedule. Given that the show was behind schedule, why couldn't the intermissions have been shortened or some eliminated to make up for this time. I came to hear Sarah and she wasn't able to play as long as she could have because of the curfew. The entire crowd started to leave when she announced that the curfew came into effect in 4 min. As she was the organizer, she didn't know this... Based on your rating scale of poor to amazing: - Musically I would rate it as amazing. - Operationally and organizationally I would rate this as fair with room for improvement. - Value for money - I felt I received value for my $90 spent to see the show with the 4 hours of airtime.

    Lilith

by Suezette on 2010-06-28McMahon Stadium - Calgary

We were so excited to go again after 10 years. The organization was poor. The line-up to enter was 45 mins, then the line-up for everything was disgusting. Just to get something to eat was 1 hour min. and you were forced with no choice as you could not bring in food and there was no re-entry allowed, so going at 2:30 you were forced to stand in line if you were to stay for the entire show. The side stage shows were really crowded, the location was bad, why were they not out on the main field as last time? The show was outstanding, but organization again, you think Sarah would have known there was a noise curfew, as she said, surprisingly "I have to stop after this song, because I guess there is a curfew" The Main show could have started before 5:20.. Main stage was outstanding, except for the shortened Sarah portion. hopefully there will be better crowd movement in upcoming cities.

The music was incredible. My only complaint is that it was running late which meant Sarah was cut short, I really wish we could have seen her play for longer.

    Calgary " Lilith"

by Albertaborn on 2010-06-28McMahon Stadium - Calgary

I was very disappointed in the disorganization in Calgary. There was no mention of the fact that the first 3 hours of performers were on smaller stages mixed in with booths and it was standing only. So, for the first 3 hours we were expected to stand..i have a medical condition which does not allow me to do that...so i missed the first 3 hours of performers. There was not nearly enough food stands and waits were over and hour to get some food. When they finally did start on the Main stage, it was after 6. Very Very disappointing.....then we finally got to enjoy some awesome music....the rest of the night was awesome!!! Went late as they started late...but worth it!! Sheryl Crow was amazing...Sugarland rocked the Stadium ....truly awesome performers! and of course Sarah topped off everything.........her voice is angelic ..i left feeling fulfilled and pleased that i went..even with all the crap.....

    Lilith Calgary

by PurpleIris on 2010-06-28McMahon Stadium - Calgary

The most poorly organized event in my 35 years of attending concerts and festivals. I was sold very expensive tickets that were right behind the sound tent! No one seemed to know what to do about it so we had to poach all over. $170 for that! Only 2 ticket lines, it took 1 hour to get in the doors with tickets and you could not leave!! Who has ever heard of that. Sarah played for less than an hour because someone didn't know that there is a sound curfew in Calgary. OMG They could learn a lot from the organizers of the Calgary folk fest.

oooops, I blinked and missed Sarah

    by Bored40 on 2010-06-28McMahon Stadium - Calgary

This event is a sad reminder that one can never return to the glorious moments of the past. My 40-something friends & I were trying to figure out why we were so bored 2 hours into the shows...the passion and heart that defined Lilith in the 90's had morphed into a pre-packaged social media marketing campaign that targeted the wrong audience, bored eager concert-goers-75% women- with only 1 jewelry booth and carefully chosen politically correct booths (what happened to the raw energy of grass roots social activism we saw in the 90's?) and had a short line-up of artists. LF targeted the 20 somethings (the Calgary Lilith ambassador was in her 20's-not my spokesman) but charged 40-something prices.

    Improvement Needed

    by Bigfan1968 on 2010-06-28McMahon Stadium - Calgary

Poorly organzied waiting in line for over 1 hour to get in we did not enjoy. The concert tickets say 2:30 but the real concert on the main stage did not start till 5:00pm wasted 3 hours.
