Across his career, Shakey Graves--a.k.a. the performance moniker of Austin, Texas-born Alejandro Rose-Garcia--has intentionally created thrilling musical adventures tailored to each fan: burning CDs and putting them in personalized decorated bags; building intricate scavenger hunts that send fans in search of unique tapes; and Bandcamp-exclusive releases.

"The fans and musicians that really resonate with me--and the inexplicable ways that I find things that I like--are usually entirely through randomness and chaos and accident," Rose-Garcia says. "I've always been on this quest to make people feel like my own music is a choose your own adventure."

In 2024 Rose-Garcia celebrated the ten year anniversary of his And The War Came album with a special 10 Year Anniversary Edition release featuring never before heard demos and b-sides from the recording process and inviting fans to enter the long-since abandoned Music House.

His story continues to unfold, but Shakey Graves Is Still A Gentleman From Texas.

    My first concert back in the newly polished and refurbished Massey Hall in Toronto couldn't have been better. Shakey Graves is by far the most engaging and personal entertainer I have had the pleasure of seeing in recent years. He somehow made it feel like there were 2,765 personal friends in the audience. The band he assembled was upper level and provided masterful support to Shakey's beautiful and sometimes quirky songs. Hands down the finest suitcase stomper in the world!

    My thoughts?! How about I attempt to describe my feelings, or how I lost belief in whether the earth was going to hold. Earth shattering goodness was delivered from Shakey Graves. The drama, the musicality strengthened my belief in both the devil and baby Jesus. The lights, lulled me into a fake sense of calm to then thrash me into a rattling heart quivering seizure of glory. All musicians clearly made a pact with Satan himself as they wielded their craft in such unholy and prolific ways! Needless to say, would love to see them play live again.

    We actually left the concert. We had originally bought the tix to see FlipTurn. Had never heard of Shakey Graves but thought, whatever - its live music, which we love. FlipTurn was amazing. Shakey Graves was underwhelming. We stayed for four songs and then left because we felt confused by the music and the crowd's vibe was terrible. Noone was even standing up. They were all cold faced, a lot were looking at their phones... and we couldn't figure out the vibe of Shakey. Whammy bar was overplayed and was that even singing... Sorry, Shakey. I'm sure you are amazing, but we didn't get it.

    QET Vancouver was a room full of shared joy and rapt attention . Shakey held us all in a bubble of stellar musicianship, genuine connection and thought provoking lyricism. Shakey Graves and his band deserve every praise and more. They created a room full of friends having the best of times . Something rare and beautiful in these times .
