2009 Shrine Circus good for the kids

by sunjwd on 2009-07-27AMC INTERCHANGE - VAUGHN

We attended the 2009 Shrine Circus at AMC Interchange in Vaughan. The 4 year old had a great time. The 2 year old loved it when the dogs came out, but that was it. The lion dance/acrobatic team was especially good. Warning to parents: the tickets were reasonable as discounts were available (we paid ~$12.50 each), but they get you bad with the drinks and food. A bottle of water was $3. A cotton candy was $4. Mostly I was annoyed by the constant (ok every 30 min) announcements plugging some ¨circus light sabre¨ toy. It was a battery powered light stick that had nothing to do with the circus, was annoying when in the audience, and costs $20! Overall the show itself was good value. Just be sure to arrive 1 hour early to line up and get in for the good seats.

It was wonderful, worth watching. Parents should take their kids there.

    Entertainment for the whole family

by nilloc on 2009-07-27AMC INTERCHANGE - VAUGHN

Yes it was pouring rain and no, the elephants didn't appear as we promised the kids...but it was a great performance. It's everything a big-top circus is supposed to be - exciting, crowded, dirty and something the kids will never forget. There was good variation in the kinds of acts (juggling, acrobatics, aerobatics, not too many clown routines) but there could have been more entertainers. It's not very believable when the "Russian" entertainers change outfits and come out as "Argentinian Gaucho Dancers." Bottom line - great show for the family and great value too.

    Shrine was good family fun

    by shan14 on 2009-07-27AMC INTERCHANGE - VAUGHN

The Shrine Circus was a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon. The acts were all entertaining. My only criticism would be that there was only one exit/entrance so at the end there was a huge crush of people leaving.

    Shrine Circus- Vaughan

by Circus on 2009-07-27AMC INTERCHANGE - VAUGHN

Circus was great. Great value for a family event. Get there a bit early if you have little ones so you can get good seats as it is general admission. Only disappointment was that the city did not allow the elephants to perform and there was no notice of that so kids were waiting for them and then the circus ended. Great fun for the family and profits go to a great cause.

    Great show!

by pingh on 2009-07-27AMC INTERCHANGE - VAUGHN

We went to the four o'clock showing of the Shrine Circus at AMC Interchange. It was raining quite heavily and for safety reasons they could not bring the animals out. However the show still went on with great performances by all. I took my nephews out and it was the first time any of us have gone to a circus. We were greatly impressed. Highly recommended. If you can I would also recommend the box seats right by the ring for the best experience.

    Not bad considering...

by Somethingsup on 2009-07-27AMC INTERCHANGE - VAUGHN

Though we watched the event during a thurderstorm, the acts were not bad considering... Not advisable to watch it when it rains... there was a lt of slipping by the acts, very muggy, watter flooding under the tent and they cancelled the horses act. Not their fault, but disappointed due to the weather...

    Shrine Circus was diasappointing.

by disappointedgrandma on 2009-07-26AMC INTERCHANGE - VAUGHN

Only one animal act in the whole show was very disappointing as my 3 granddaughters really wanted to see the animals. We understood the rain caused unsafe conditions in the ring for the horses, but they could have brought at least a couple of horses in and walked them around and have the horses kneel. Also, there were not any elephants to be seen. The only animal act was the poodles. The acrobats, jugglers, etc. were very good, but there needs to be some animals. At the beginning, there was too much talk before starting the show.

    Shrine Circus not that great

    by Dar3 on 2009-07-24SHERIDAN CENTRE - MISSISSAUGA

Maybe it was because of the weather at the time - raining but I was not very impressed with the circus. Other than the dogs there were no animals. Very small circus ring. Seemed like the same stuff over and over for 2 hours. Lights and toys very over priced!! Would not recommend nor go again.

    Shrine Circus was wild!

by spunkmaster on 2009-07-24SHERIDAN CENTRE - MISSISSAUGA

Took the kids and made it to the "big top"! We thoroughly enjoyed the show, the acts were well executed and being inside such a big tent made the experience real. There were some animal acts but would like to see more especially bears and big cats. Will go next year and don't forget to get your discount coupon offer (half price ).

Shrine circus for grown up kids!

by mvh13 on 2009-07-24Miscellaneous Venues Outside Toronto - Toronto

It was kind of child-focused but had some pretty cool acrobatic acts and how could one not like elephants and a dog show?! Overall pretty good and worth the $10 for sure.

    shrine circus

by princessjasmine on 2009-07-23Copps Coliseum - Hamilton

The show was nice. My kids enjoyed the first part but it was long for them. The intermission was long, I know people were riding the elephants but for young kids it was long. I would of liked to see more animals. When I think of circus I think of animals. I know the protesters were outside but I don't believe that animals are treated that bad. We left after the intermission but only because it was late. It was definately enjoyable to watch and would go again.

    Well worth the show

by Waldriff on 2009-07-22Copps Coliseum - Hamilton

What an exciting time had by all. This was the first circus for my two grandsons, 10 and 7 years old, and one that their grandparents have not been to in close to 30 years. According to the boys it was "Cool and Fun" The best part for the oldest was the clown and his young cohort with two audience volunteers trying to follow the directions of playing the musical instruments. The acrobatic team was phenomenal. We could have watched them all evening. Way to go!!

    Hustling for dollars

by THyn on 2009-07-22Copps Coliseum - Hamilton

Circus itself was so-so, but what really turned us off was all the junk (food & plastic) that they were pushing for crazy prices. We didn't appreciate hard-sell announcements over the PA for $20 flashing light swords with the sales guy waving them around in the aisle right beside our kids.

    Shrine Circus

by crazyone on 2009-07-22Copps Coliseum - Hamilton

I took my grandkids to Copps to see the circus. The kids are 11,9 & 8. The two older ones really enjoyed it but the younger one thought it was too long. I think he liked the popcorn more The ticket time was 7pm so we arrived at 6:30. and the show was not over until 9:45. That's a really long time for small children to sit. It may have been better if it was a saturday afternoon. Good Show for the price.

    Great SHRINE Event

by RobsinHamilton on 2009-07-22Copps Coliseum - Hamilton

For a one ring circus, it was fast paced entertainment. Lots of great acts for the kids and adults. Will our family go again? You bet we will. Not to take anything away... It would have been nice to have the cirus on a weekend afternoon instead of a week night. We let our little guy sleep in for a while before bringing him to day care. Thank you Shriners for a wonderful evening none the less!

    Good for the money

by inobtu on 2009-07-22Copps Coliseum - Hamilton

We had a two for one coupon for this event and since my 4.5 year old son had previously asked to go I figured it would be a fun night out for him. Overall is was okay (I got kind of bored half way through). My son and I were both looking forward to a lot more animals (they only showed a small elephant show and a dog show). Some good human tricks but nothing spectacular... still, worth the little money it cost to go.

by Akilae on 2009-07-22Copps Coliseum - Hamilton

This was a perfect venue and host (Shrine) for my daughters first circus. It was fun, exciting, and lot's to do. The riding elephants was a great touch.

The entire show was just great. We will go back to see it again.

    Shriner's Circus... Is that it?

    by Momof2Tots on 2009-07-21CAMBRIDGE MALL - CAMBRIDGE

If this is your first time going to a circus, you may find the Shriner's Circus entertaining. I, however, have seen a three-ring circus, so I found that there just wasn't enough happening to truly captivate my attention, nor the attention of my two toddlers for that matter. This circus is basically the same talented people over and over again, check their website, where the individual performers named are from the larger families/groups. I realize that it isn't everyone's dream these days to run away with the circus, but it would be nice to have minimal people recycled throughout the acts. And more animals, please. There are only horses, dogs and elephants, absolutely no wild cats, unless you consider the act put on by the chinese acrobats in lion costumes, which is an impressive act, but not real lions. The horse act was very boring, although it was my eldest son's favourite act... The horses ran in a circle and didn't do much else. To finalize my point of view on this... Been there, done that, probably won't do it again unless I have free tickets.
