About

Originating in Huntington Park, CA in 1981 as a cover band in the head-banging scene, Slayer has become one of the most important metal bands in rock history, commonly referred to in the Big 4 alongside Anthrax, Megadeath and Metallica. Their first two albums, 1983’s Show No Mercy and 1985’s Hell Awaits, were released on Metal Blade Records, before they signed to Rick Rubin’s Def Jam label in 1986. There they released their third album Reign in Blood, which caught mainstream attention and has proved to be a genre-defining thrash metal album, influencing countless bands as well as the subgenres of death metal and black metal. Tom Araya’s shouted vocals and graphic lyrics are thought-provoking and articulate, while their tight musical structures combining hardcore rock’s rhythms and speed metal’s frenzied pace generate fast and aggressive songs, intensified through the use of double bass drumming, and unconventional but engaging guitar riffs. This all-out rock offensive has been wowing ticket holders for over three decades, selling out concerts across the globe. Over the years, Slayer has been nominated for five Grammy awards, most recently 2009’s World Painted Blood, and continues to tour while working on new material.

Slayer, Testament, Behemoth, Lamb of God, Anthrax

by CrimsonCatacombs on 2018-06-02Budweiser Stage - Toronto

I had been wanting to see Testament and Slayer live for about 25 years. When the chance to see them together came up, nothing could have prevented me from being there. The show was amazing. All the bands were terrific. I have absolutely no complaints. If anyone is a fan of Slayer, they had better get their tickets for their final tour. Amazing!

    Started way too early

by Metalister on 2018-06-02Place Bell - Laval

The show was great, the sound was excellent, which is not always the case in arena gigs. The low rating is because of the hour the show started. 4pm doors open 5 pm show started. I missed 2 of the band due to this as I arrived at 6pm, and two of my friends sold their tickets as they couldn’t make it their on time and would have missed half the show. I have attended many shows and have never seen a gig start at 5pm. 7 pm would have been a better time as most of us work in the week and finish at around 5 pm. I think this is a very poor decision and A serious deterrent for people who want to see a show but cannot afford to take an afternoon off or leave the job early to attend a show which cost 82$ the ticket.

    Awesome

by Bernypac on 2018-06-02Place Bell - Laval

My sixth and sadly for us the last time we experience the best thrash band ever! The venue was great, the sound awesome, and the seat was out of this world! Needles to say that I enjoyed the show.

What a line up! Slayer performance was outstanding! They had a lot of pyro and visual effects! A must see!

fantastic night with a great band line up

by tsiemens on 2018-06-02Budweiser Stage - Toronto

great show and great opening bands. I could have lived without some of the more growly bands but that's my personal preference. Sound was occasionally over amped causing rumbling rather than instrument clarity. I also wish the venues would open the doors sooner so I didn't miss half of testament. The parking system is also a disaster waiting 15 minutes to pay for parking with a machine instead of an attendant is a very bad system.

    Slayer Final Show Was Okay

    by WolfmanJack007 on 2018-06-01Budweiser Stage - Toronto

Was expecting more of a sendoff. A very perfunctory performance. And what's with no encore?? Very minimal interaction with the crowd. Pretty much a simple thank you for being a fan. Would have been a better show in a smaller venue.

    Good show

by Brendooku on 2018-06-01Budweiser Stage - Toronto

Slayer played great, but the sound mixing needs improvement. It just sounded loud there was no balance between the band. It could also be that the sound guy is not used to an outdoor venue and might have sounded way better indoors at a hockey arena.

First time seeing 4 of the 5 bands.

by RRoy on 2018-06-01Budweiser Stage - Toronto

Except for the technical issues early on the whole show was great. I would definitely see Testament, Anthrax and Lamb of God again. Slayer was great unfortunately it was their last tour so can't see them again. Behemoth was alright but not something I will pay to see but would watch them if they are a opener for another band.

    SLAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYEEEEEEERRRRRRR!!!

by guscuderi on 2018-06-01Budweiser Stage - Toronto

When it was announced that there was going to be a Slayer Farewell Tour, I guess they forgot to say it was going to be a farewell to their diehard fans, brave people who lost their lives while crushing their heads and spines into the nonstop, infernal mosh pits that took over the entire venue during the more than SIX HOURS of brutal Thrash and Death Metal blasted by some of the best bands in the history of heavy music. As a matter of fact, whoever had the initial idea of putting together on the same day/night the great Testament, Behemoth, Anthrax, Lamb Of God and Slayer deserves a huge prize and our utmost respect forever. It was totally and amazingly insane from start to finish, on a beyond beautiful and sunny day in the city. If this was in fact their farewell tour, well, they’ll be beyond missed by all of us, diehard Slayer fans who consider Dead Skin Mask one of the best “ballads” ever composed by any band. Let’s wait and see if we’ll be treated to at least one more Slayer apocalypse in Toronto in the coming years as a second, third or whatever leg of their farewell tour, I don’t care, as long as they return.

Slayer killing it one last time in TO!!

    by Peel27 on 2018-06-01Budweiser Stage - Toronto

From start of Testament to the last song by Slayer it was one helluva show. All the bands killed it and getting to sing Oh Canada with Anthrax was very cool. Thanks Slayer for all the years of tremendous music and I know at the end Tom said I will miss you guys, well we will miss you too!

Slayer is one of those bands that people who know nothing about metal know about. Even if they’ve never heard them, they have a general idea of what they sound like, because Slayer have always been so good at projecting a particularly evil vibe.
