St. Louis City SC History

St. Louis City SC was founded in 2019 and approved as Major League Soccer’s 28th franchise before playing their inaugural season in 2023. SLC arrived after the city’s long-established soccer fandom recently saw the dissolution of the USL’s St. Louis FC in 2020. The St. Louis City SC is the first female majority-owned team in MLS history.

In their inaugural 2023 season, St. Louis City endeared themselves to the city with a spirited regular season performance that placed the team in the top position of the Western Conference, earning an automatic qualification to the 2024 CONCACAF Champions Cup. Following the regular season, St. Louis fell to Sporting Kansas City in the first round of the 2023 MLS Cup Playoffs. Meanwhile, Roman Bürki won the team’s first player accolade as the 2023 MLS Goalkeeper of the Year.

St. Louis City SC at CITYPARK

In February of 2020, St. Louis broke ground on a brand-new, 22,500-seat stadium, CITYPARK, built specifically to house St. Louis City SC. Both the franchise and stadium debuted on February 25, 2023, to much fanfare. The facility stands next to St. Louis’ Union Station in the Downtown West neighborhood.

CITYPARK’s 3,000-seat supporters’ section hosts fans and supporters’ groups alike, such as the long-standing St. Louligans as well as the all-ages No Nap City Ultras and the Fleur de Noise drum corps.
