About

Stone Temple Pilots in Concert

With over 70 million albums sold, Stone Temple Pilots roared on to the scene in 1992 with their raucous debut, Core. A breakout success, the album peaked #3 on the Billboard 200 chart, and dominated radio waves with hits like "Sex Type Thing," "Wicked Garden," and the Grammy-Award winning smash single, "Plush." STP quickly distinguished themselves as a band beholden to no trend. Boasting the inimitable riffs of guitarist Dean DeLeo, the propulsive rhythm section of bassist Robert DeLeo and drummer Eric Kretz, and the charismatic baritone of frontman Scott Weiland, STP ruled airways, video playlists and charts alike over their legendary career. The band released their seventh studio album, Stone Temple Pilots (2018), their first with new lead singer, Jeff Gutt. The debut single "Meadow" from the self-titled album, channels the gritty guitars and swaggering rhythms that STP is known for, and reached top 5 at rock radio. All Music Guide states, "They haven't lost their knack for hook-heavy hard rock that wedges its way into the subconscious."

    STP has still got it

by Musicluvah on 2009-07-11Casino Rama - Orillia

After all this time, they've still got it. Scott Weiland can wail like no other and sounded production perfect... surprising considering all that he's been through over the last 15 years. The band was in sync and on track. The graphics on the backdrop were at times almost as mesmerizing as Weiland's dancing. The only thing that was lacking was the audience - Casino Rama is not the friendliest venue for big rock acts. Due to their policy of handing out free tickets to 'VIP' players, the venue and audience are better suited to Tom Jones than Stone Temple Pilots. Although there were a decent number of true STP fans, the band didn't receive the reception and appreciation that they truly deserved.

    STP pretty good.

by jaay on 2009-07-11Casino Rama - Orillia

STP was solid, as expected. They played everything you'd expect them to and were amazingly tight, but they didn't engage the crowd at all which made it hard to connect. The overall show lacked energy. I blame that mostly on the venue, not the band. There were seats all the way up to the stage.... how do you expect people to move around and get into it if they can't move? Overall, good show and happy I went. Sound was great, but a I'm disappointed that I wasn't blown away.

    Interesting

by Twistedsister on 2009-07-11Casino Rama - Orillia

I love all STP's music. I have never seem them live before, and have only seen him once before in an interview. I'm a little surprised by the way he looked. He reminded me of a banker with a really bad Hitler era hairdo having a mid life crisis, on acid. That being said, his voice sounded fantastic, the band seemed pretty tight, and the crowd really enjoyed themselves. What more could you ask for!

    Stone Temple Pilots

    by mojox7 on 2009-07-11Casino Rama - Orillia

Stone Temple pilots took the stage at 9:55 almost and hour late, at 9:05 anannouncement came over the PA asking people to take their seats as the show was about to begin, after waiting for 45 min, I decided to make a dash for the bar for a beer hoping to get back before the show started but as luck would have it I could hear the riff to meatplow just as I got to the beer stand, so I rushed back to my seats only missing the first verse, and from that moment the late start and dry mouth was forgotten, the band sounded incredible, they had the time to do a proper sound check and it was like listening the a S.T.P cd, Scott and the band sounded well, near perfect. this was I believe the 6th show of this mini tour, that began and ends in july, but they sounded like they had been touring for months, the bands time apart from scott during his time with Velvet Revolver seemed to only make them an even tighter unit. great to see Scott Back where he belongs, with one of the best bands on the planet.

    Classic STP

by trickygoose on 2009-07-11Casino Rama - Orillia

Casino Rama was not the ideal venue for this band, as they put chairs all along the front floor area, so there was no room to jump or dance around. It seemed like the crowd was a little subdued because of it. Having said that, the band was excellent. They sounded realy good together, and Weiland's vocals were awesome. I am really happy I got to see them live.

    STP was awesome

    by Dan100 on 2009-07-11Casino Rama - Orillia

With the exception of the drumming that went a bit slow at times and screwed up a few times, they were great. Weiland voice was incredible. The sound was superb. I've only been to one other venue where the sound was better. Everything was clear sounding. Which made it better to hear Weiland sing. The Deleo brothers were solid as usual. ALOT of old songs and some that they haven't played in a while. But at times when the drums were playing the songs a bit slower than they are normally played, which obviously slowed down the song period, it kinda took away from the energy. But it's good to see them back, and hopefully they stick around this time cause they are still in my opinion one of the best bands to come out of the 90's. (Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, Rage Against the Machine, and Tool being the others)

    STP at Rama

    by NW1234 on 2009-07-11Casino Rama - Orillia

The stone temple pilots are a gritty rock act, with songs that only mostly fit in a certain era. They play music the kids of today can't always relate to from a musical standpoint, and older genrations could concider unpleasant and noisy. Having said that, STP is MY generation of music, and I love what they do. It was amazing to see them play all of their older favorites, and I was pleased to see that scott has the same vocal range he's always had if not better. I felt there was a slight possibility that weiland was a bit tired as he wasnt as energetic as ive seen in the past, but that could be part of his new image with the strange haircut. It could also have to do with the ammount of crowd feedback as I felt that their real fans were sitting way back in the upper level with me singing along to every great song, while the people in the front rows looked as though they didnt even know who stp was, not even reacing to songs like creep, and plush at all when the camera was on them. Bottom line. If you are a fan of stone temple pilots this is the tour to see, because they have never been truer to their original sound.

    STP

by WickedGarden on 2009-07-11Casino Rama - Orillia

Show was great! They pulled out all the old stuff you would expect and some that you wouldn't. They still have the "it" factor and their live show sounds as good, if not better, then the album. The only downfall to this show was the lack of participation from the crowd. It was like STP was playing to a bunch of zombies.

    STP Rocked

by LadyPictureshow on 2009-07-11Casino Rama - Orillia

I saw STP at CasinoRama last night and they did not disappoint. The band was tight and Scott was in prime form. They played all the favourites - like Vaseline, Interstate Love Song, Creep and blew us away with Dead and Bloated and Trippin on a Hole in a Paper Heart. The sound and accoustics at the venue were great and they allowed concert-goers to get close to the stage to really rock out with the band. I am seeing them again today at Sarnia Bayfest and am sure to be delighted and derranged by STP once more. Cheers

    Absolutely great!

by Marc on 2009-07-11Casino Rama - Orillia

Scott is in fine form as is the band. Clean and crisp. Light and visuals were excellent and the band played all the best old stuff. Came on stage at 9:42 pm and left after 3 song encore at 11:13 pm. Closed with Dead and Bloated and Trippin. Played almost entire Purple Album, best of Core and only 2 from #4.....Sour girl and Down which they hammered. I highly recommend this show to everyone. If they were here for a second night I would go again.......you never know with Scott if he will be with us forever.
