About

Commemorating 40 years of recording and releasing music, Stryper continues to churn out rock-solid albums and pulsating live performances. The hardworking group shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon.

Following on the heels of their successful studio project The Final Battle (Frontiers Music Srl), the definitive foursome released their first-ever acoustic album Acousticyzed on February 16, 2024. The double-disc set features an audio CD and DVD/Blu-ray video recorded and filmed at SpiritHouse Studios in western Massachusetts.

The 11-track acoustic collection features stripped-down versions of Stryper's classic songs - ranging from energized tracks "Loud & Clear" and "Soldiers Under Command" to power ballad "Honestly" - plus a never-before-released version of enduring hymn "Amazing Grace." The video unveils an up-close look at band members performing the album live in the studio.

For a limited time this spring, "To Hell with the Amps: The Unplugged Tour" will feature Stryper playing the entirety of the acoustic project during each performance.

"We're excited to show people a totally different translation of these songs," says lead vocalist, guitarist and primary songwriter Michael Sweet. "Most of the acoustic shows will be set in smaller, more intimate venues, and the set is naturally more toned down. It will feel like a family affair, like everyone is sitting in our living room listening to us play."

Sweet adds that the band will follow the acoustic stints with a full-on 40th anniversary tour kicking off September 13, 2024.

"The anniversary tour will feature songs ranging across our entire discography," he reveals. "We'll perform a set consisting of our classic songs, then play a second set containing more recent material."

Sweet further shares that the band's live shows will feature everything from heightened production to variations in wardrobe.

"We will be changing outfits from a classic look to a modern look, with production to match," Sweet says. "It will definitely be unprecedented because it's important to come up with a unique way for fans to celebrate this milestone anniversary with us."

In addition, the band plans to offer an exclusive pre-show VIP experience for its loyal devotees. A 45-minute encounter with Stryper will include a private screening of a short film featuring archival footage and photos and a brief Q&A session with the bandmates.

As for future endeavors, the band just wrapped recording another full-length studio album Sweet describes as "all killer and no filler." The anticipated release date is fall 2024.

"We're hoping it will continue the trend of our music getting better with each release," Sweet says. "It's loaded with high-quality tunes and great energy."

Stryper also has made solid progress on a much-anticipated Kickstarter-fueled documentary film. More than 1,700 backers helped the band far exceed its original funding goal, earning a "Projects We Love" tag on the popular crowdfunding platform.

"We found a brilliant director, Chris Atkins, and it's being filmed now," says Sweet, adding that footage will be captured throughout the rest of this year.  "We're excited to see it's finally happening."

When it comes to groundbreaking bands in the Christian hard-rock genre, Stryper is renowned for its distinctive brand of "heavenly metal," extraordinary crossover success and venerable endurance. The group ascended to prominence in the 1980s with Billboard Top 40 hits like "Calling on You," "Honestly" and "Always There for You."

Stryper's career album sales exceed 10 million worldwide, including 1986's multiplatinum release To Hell with the Devil. The band also made history when it notched two songs simultaneously in MTV's Top 10 with videos "Free" and "Honestly."

Today, some 40 years after emerging from the southern California nightclub scene, the foursome continues to record, tour and perform for devoted fans around the globe. Comprising three original members including brothers Michael Sweet, Robert Sweet (drums) and Oz Fox (guitar) plus longtime bandmate and veteran bassist Perry Richardson, the group finds itself continuing to create their finest, most powerful music yet.

    STRYPER STILL HAS IT !

by kingpin on 2018-11-02Cannery Hotel and Casino - Las Vegas

Really good concert. Ears will be toast if you don't bring earplugs to a STRYPER concert though. Really loud, but in a good way. Wish the concert was longer, they have so many songs I've always wanted to hear live. Nice to see them play the smaller venues but they deserve to play larger shows with all the talent they have. They are still underappreciated after all these years. Can't wait to see them again.

    Undeniably Stryper!!!

    by Hackdroid68 on 2011-03-21Harpos - Detroit

These guys are one of the best bands to see live. Non stop rocking from beginning to end. The only negative aspect is that they never play long enough. About 90 min but worth every second. This current tour is promoting their new disc "The Covering" which is a compilation of covers from the bands that influenced their musical prowess. I've included my best recollection of the setlist below (not necessarily in the correct order). Unfortunately, the opening act (I believe they were called "Fallen Angel" were just plain BAD!!!

    Stryper, what a comeback!

by TedKewin on 2010-06-26The Red Room - Vancouver

It was outstanding. These guys can still rock after all these years. And Michael's voice is still about 90-95% of when he was a kid! (Wish I could say that about mine). He could still hit the notes. That impressed me the most. Made me like Stryper MORE than when I was kid! They were friendly and very approachable. Class act. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend and go again if they return. Robert even came off the bus to sign a few more drumsticks-very cool-over and above the call of duty. Highly recommend.

super talented guys, super tight performance. was a treat to see a band that use to play arenas in a small venue. They know how to connect with their audience.

    What a GREAT SHOW!!

by LongtimeStryperFan on 2009-11-29The Red Room - Vancouver

This show surpassed all of my extremely high expectations. Michael sounded amazing and hit every single note. The guitar work was better than ever. In an age of constant overproduction, this band is one of the few that sounds better live. It was such an intimate show. I took a ton of pictures and would recomend this band to anyone.

    Stryper in Vancouver

by kingpin on 2009-11-26The Red Room - Vancouver

Even afer all these years the boys still rock like bands half their age!!! From start to finish an excellent show from a band that believe it or not HAS changed with the times. They of course give their original fan base a heavy dose of their classics, but also mix in a good measure of newer material from their most recent albums.

    Stryper was inspiring!

by LilVanz on 2009-11-23The Red Room - Vancouver

Great concert. My husband dragged me to this Christian metal rock band and I was dreading it, but it was quite memorable. The only things I didn't like were waiting in the rain for 45 minutes to get in and waiting nealy an hour between the opening acts and the band. Overall, I like the fact that this group is heavy metal but wholesome and Christian. Very refreshing.

    Stryper ... Awesome

by rexsavage on 2009-11-22The Red Room - Vancouver

After 25 years since their first album, Stryper has still got it. All original 4 members were in top form. Covering selections from 6 of 7 albums. Great arrangements, decent sound. Very involved crowd in decent venue totalling I estimate around 600. All members interacted very well with the crowd especially front man Michael Sweet. This is my third time seeing them. 1986 at Queen E, and 1990 at 86th Street.

Styryper keeps on rockin' the hell out of you !!!

by kingpin on 2009-11-22The Red Room - Vancouver

These guys never cease to amaze!! Non stop ear splitting rock from start to finish! They bring it like bands half their age. Too bad more people can't see them as more than an eighties band and appreciate their new material. It's as good if not better than their old classics. The only downer was that the venue was a little dark and dingee and felt like someones basement. If they roll into your city do not miss the chance to see them, they are amazing live. My only advice would be to bring ear plugs if you value your hearing 'cause they are LOUD !!!
