About

Styx have endured for over five decades while staying true to their progressive rock sound and theatrical live show. Since releasing their self-titled debut in 1972, Styx have sold over 54 million records worldwide between 17 studio albums, 16 compilations and nine live recordings. Notably, the band released four consecutive RIAA-certified multi-platinum albums between 1977’s The Grand Illusion, 1978’s Pieces of Eight, 1979’s Cornerstone and 1981’s Paradise Theatre, the last of which became their first to top the Billboard 200. Across their career, Styx earned eight Top 10 singles on the Hot 100, including the chart-topping “Babe” as well as “Come Sail Away” “Mr. Roboto” and their 1990 comeback single “Show Me the Way.” Despite several hiatuses and lineup changes, Styx have become one of rock’s most consistent touring acts, hosting nearly 100 live shows every year for over two decades and netting career-best earnings on massive co-headlining tours with REO Speedwagon, Foreigner and Def Leppard. In 2021, Styx released their seventeenth studio album, Crash of the Crown.

  • Styx was perfect

by GatorMckluskey on 2009-09-10River Cree Resort & Casino - EdmontonRating: 5 out of 5

I saw Styx two years ago when they opened for Def Leppard and they completely put Def leppard to shame. Their sound was crystal clear (not so for leppard) and their show had much more energy. I knew then that i had to see them again. ( I have been a fan of theirs since their inception). Last night's show at the River Cree was just as amazing. Too bad they had to play at such a small venue; the acoustics did them injustice, but the energy they showed was awesome. One never seems to tire of their music. Everyone in the crowd was up on their feet, arms in the air. What a great show. These guys know how to rock. Keep up the good work, STYX. If you come this way again, we will be there.

  • COME SAIL AWAY

by SCHMITZEE on 2009-09-10River Cree Resort & Casino - EdmontonRating: 4 out of 5

Styx are timeless. Some 80's bands sound and appear tired, but not Styx. The vocals were clear and many of the songs simply bring back amazing memories. It sounded like a newly spun CD, would have enjoyed more solos. Gowan and Tommy Shaw are always perfect. Thanks for the memories, hope to see you again soon.

  • Styx was unforgettable

    by spud66 on 2009-09-08Bismarck Civic Center - BismarckRating: 5 out of 5

38 Special got the energy going as the opening act. Loved how they got the audience to particiapate. Styx was totally awesome. Both bands seemed like they were having a great time performing together. Reo was good, but I found the energy wasn't as strong as the first 2 bands.

  • REO speedwagon

was a good show, the Bismarck Civic Center is a good venue, not over crowded.I think 38 special stole the show

  • REO outplayed Styx

by Spanky on 2009-07-12NOKIA Theatre LA LIVE - Los AngelesRating: 4 out of 5

REO Speedwagon played many of their popular songs the way I am so familiar with them. Kevin talked to the audience like he was among friends and it appeared the band was really enjoying the performance as well. I really enjoy both bands, and Styx is actually my preferred band, however, they played their popular songs to hard and kept the jam session going too long. I feel I would have enjoyed their performance more if they would have played more of their favorite songs, played like the great band they are, not playing them longer, trying to be heavy, hard metal rockers, which they are not. I would attend their concerts again, as they have great songs and music.
