About

Two-time Juno Award winners Sum 41 rode the crest of the nu-metal wave in the early 2000s with a catchy blend of punk, rap and metal elements woven into their music. They were able to pinpoint some of the most infectious characteristics of popular genres and meld them into a hybrid that won them throngs of fans who were eager for more. Tickets to their concerts traditionally sell out fast, as fans don't want to miss the chance to jump up with the band and request songs through the extra microphone that seems to just float around the stage. The band orchestrates this circus-like scenario night after night on tour and even indulges in a cover or two by Judas Priest or Iron Maiden —complete with drum solos. Incidentally, the band was lucky enough to borrow drummer Tommy Lee from Motley Crue for a stretch between 2001 and 2003. Their August 2011 release Sum 41 Live at the House of Blues boasts plenty of live concert antics and features the hit songs "Underclass Hero," "Motivation" and "Fat Lip."

The band hails from Ajax, Ontario, Canada and is fronted by lead singer, rhythm guitarist and primary songwriter Deryck Whibley. They began in 1996 as a NOFX cover band called Kaspir but eventually changed their name for a high-profile show opening for Supernova. They signed an international record deal with Island Records in 1999, which resulted in their 2001 debut release All Killer, No Filler. They embarked on a relentless journey of touring and songwriting that led to the 2002 release of Does This Look Infected?, 2004's Chuck, 2007's Underclass Hero and the 2011 release Screaming Bloody Murder, with subsequent tours. Sum 41 continues this tradition with a string of Canadian tour dates scheduled for the spring of 2014.

    Papa Roach / Sum 41

by Kyberdog on 2017-04-17Grey Eagle Event Centre - Calgary

Papa Roach was awesome. Great sound and alot of energy! Sum 41 - looking forward to this band. They have a very good stage presence and love their music. HOWEVER - whoever was doing their sound needs to be looking for a new job. They sounded like they were playing in a upside down bucket.......sounded terrible. We ended up leaving halfway through. Too bad.

    Sum 41 was terrible

by biohazard on 2017-04-17Grey Eagle Event Centre - Calgary

For the price I would not recommend this show. Danko Jones sounded good, Papa Roach was great but Sum 41 was the worst sound I've heard in years. No clue what the sound guy was hearing. Only when he was singing one song from within the sound booth was it half decent.

Papa Roach was absolutely amazing... they had so much energy and interaction with the crowd and would definitively see them again. Sum 41 has serious sound problems and you couldn't even hear the lyrics... was very excited to see them and was disappointed and even left early as no point when you can't hear

One of the best concerts I've ever been too!

by ZeeKay on 2017-01-06Phoenix Concert Theatre - Toronto

I'm a pretty big Sum 41 fan and this show was just perfect! The venue was packed and it was a crazy night. This was one of few concerts I was up against the barricade and me and my friends had a great night! The band played a great mix of songs and really got the crowd going. Plus they came out after the show and signed autographs and there was free pizza. I can't wait to see them again.

    An epic show!

by JamieM on 2016-10-31Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

The opening bands were diverse and Sum 41 put on a great show. They had the crowd going insane throughout the night. The energy was amazing and I would see them again in a heartbeat. The autograph session at the end was a cool way to end the event.

Ok As It Is was a bad opening act but that's alright because Senses Fail absolutely killed it. Then Sum 41 came on stage and everything went crazy. What a concert. I fell and got kicked in the head. It was great. Amazing. Couldn't be better. Amazing concert.

    Don't Call it a Sum-Back

by Roanna on 2016-10-23The Phoenix Concert Theatre - Toronto

A lot of pop-punk bands from the early 00's are making comebacks in the past couple of years, and Sum 41 is one of the biggest success stories. Their recent release, 13 Voices, is raucous and addictive, and their live show is just as energetic as I hoped it would be. The set was a mix of old songs and new, from the latest single "War" to fan-favourites like "In Too Deep", "Pieces", and - my favourite - "Fat Lip", which closed the show. Deryck Whibley looked much healthier than he has in years, and, despite feeling sick, was still interacting with the crowd and bouncing around the stage. The lights and smoke effects added to the overall festive air and it was also really cute to see the band's relatives (parents, grandparents, etc) hanging out in the sound booth and rocking along with them. Definitely would recommend catching them live if you can!

I saw Sum 41 open for Billy Talent in Toronto and they were so amazing. I've been a huge fan for YEARS and I finally got to see them live. Totally unforgettable and they have an amazing stage presence. I would definitely recommend them to anyone, though it's a little different without Dave ):

    AMAZING.

Sum 41 was amazing last night when they played at the ACC!!! I rocked out too hard, resulting in body soreness and voice loss. But it was well worth it! I can't wait for them to headline their own tour, I will be one of the first to buy tickets! I love you Sum 41!

Does This Look Infected? And Amazing?!

by tyson145 on 2012-11-14The Phoenix Concert Theatre - Toronto

Great show! They got the crowd going, and they non stop rocked. Only downside to the show was the second surprise band. They were good considering it was just a guitarist and drummer, but their set ran loooong....Almost as long as Sum 41 themselves. Otherwise, killer show
