About

Switchfoot are a Grammy-winning rock band from San Diego, California. Formed in 1996 by brothers Jon and Tim Foreman and drummer Chad Butler, the group released three albums before gaining major label attention following several prominent syncs in the 2002 romantic drama A Walk to Remember. In 2003, Switchfoot released their breakout fourth album The Beautiful Letdown, which went triple-platinum behind the band’s first Hot 100-charting singles “Meant to Live” and “Dare You to Move.” Their 2005 follow-up, Nothing Is Sound, hit a career-peak No. 3 on the Billboard 200, and the band would log another three Top 10 albums with 2011’s Vice Verses, 2014’s Fading West and 2016’s Where the Light Shines Through. Additionally, Switchfoot have earned six No. 1s on the Top Christian Albums chart, and their 2009 effort Hello Hurricane nabbed the band’s first Grammy for Best Rock or Rap Gospel Album. In 2023, Switchfoot released The Beautiful Letdown (Our Version), a 20th anniversary re-recording via their self-run independent label, lowercase people records.

    Hello Hurricane sweeps though Winnipeg!!

by Roadrunner12 on 2010-01-21The Garrick Centre - Winnipeg

Portage & Main may be one of the windiest corners in North America, but at the Garrick Centre on Monday night a Hurricane swept through. San Diego Alt-rockers Switchfoot returned to Winnipeg with a whirlwind. Switchfoot are so proud and excited to showcase their new album, Hello Hurricane, that for this tour they decided to play the whole album start to finish. It was an enlightening experience for this fan to have the album played live right before your eyes. You can tangibly feel the new energy that the band was capturing during its recording. After playing the whole album Switchfoot continued with some of their other favorites to the ecstatic cheers of the fans. All in all their set was 22 songs long...yup!! 22!! The building was electric!! A rousing rendition of "O Canada" sung with gusto by the fans, honouring the fact that the Olympics are in Vancouver in February 2010, brought kudos from the band. Jon Foreman engaged the crowd with soaring vocals, eloquent banter, and thrilling inhibition....joining the fans in "The Pit". With lyrics that hit your heart and soul...Switchfoot shows no signs of stopping, and with a new album coming around the corner this fan is on pins and needles.

Show much bigger than the venue

by SaskatcheOne on 2010-01-20Louis' Pub - Saskatoon

Hello Hurricane is a very solid album and Switchfoot nailed all 12 songs from it back to back with great fidelity to the studio sound. And then launched with a twist into their older material and really got the sold out crowd rocking. The crowd was on their feet all night with their eyes and ears glued to the performance of a band and musical set that could have, and should have, been held in a much larger venue.

    switchfoot = intense

by yewchdog on 2010-01-20The Garrick Centre - Winnipeg

I find it really cool when you go do something without any idea what to expect and you're blown away by it. Switchfoot at the Garrick was one of the most crowd pleasing shows i've ever been to. Everyone was really into it.

    Switchfoot was absolutely amazing

    by jblovesjesus19 on 2010-01-20MACEWAN BALLROOM - CALGARY

The concert was great, need better security though as they were two many rowdies in the crowd and it made it less enjoyable than it could have been. Great band and good opening band, extremely impressed with Switchfoot

    Great concert!

    by Red22 on 2010-01-19Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

Switchfoot's concert at the Commodore Ballroom was great! Good venue and great performances! Their opening band was good but didn't catch their name. They sold their LP for $5 and basically played all the songs on it. Switchfoot was amazing. They played their entire new album Hello Hurricane start to finish and then played a pile of songs from their other 6 albums. They played just over 20 songs STRAIGHT - no breaks. They were machines and sounded great the whole way through. I went with my best friend (bought her the tickets for her birthday) and she said it was the best present I've gotten her! Will definitely go and see them again the next time they are in Vancouver and totally reccomend it!!

    Switchfoot Rocks, best yet!!

by Woodshed on 2010-01-19MACEWAN BALLROOM - CALGARY

Not the best of venues, but Switchfoot rocked the joint. 7 of us went and it was almost unanymous that it was best concert ever. The band had unlimited energy, they played their full Hello Hurricane LP before doing some of their favorites. John Foreman did a little crowd surfing and seemed to survive the experience. His leadins to their songs added meaning, and made the songs seem even more relevant. Very positive, eternal theme with hope and grace carrying the torch. I hope they drop back soon. Squidman

    Switchfoot delivers a great night

by Snipes on 2010-01-19The Garrick Centre - Winnipeg

I've seen Switchfoot several times and this wasn't the best show, but I was definitely not disappointed. I left feeling very energized and hopeful. I'm not as big a fan of all the songs on their new album as I am of most of their older stuff, but they are definitely heartfelt. They just don't seem as enduring or catchy as some of their others. Anyways, I won't criticize something I enjoy alot and I will buy any album that they try to sell, and go to see them anytime they are close.

Switchfoot delivered the goods, big time!!

by tjmac on 2010-01-19The Garrick Centre - Winnipeg

They were interactive, and engaging. They played the whole new album (unheard of!!). They sound as good in person as they do on their recordings. A very talented band. A very entertaining concert. Couldn't have asked for anything else. Will see them again, without a doubt!!

    another solid performance by Switchfoot

by mfo2 on 2010-01-19The Garrick Centre - Winnipeg

This band's live show is unforgettable! The music is tight, and I'm super impressed with the energy and heart they put into every song. They seem to strike a great balance between adding some "surprise" elements as far as song formats go, yet being predictable enough that people feel like they can participate and "own" the music. Lots of crowd-singing-along type thing. It felt very intimate in a still high-energy-rock-out type of way. They do a phenomenal job of "being present" with their audience and acting as if they care that they're here, now. How they do that every night, I don't know. Their live performance is such that they can sell you on a song (live) that you may not have gravitated to in its recorded form. I thoroughly enjoyed myself!

Great show. Switchfoot frontman Jon Foreman showed great interaction with the crowd. He made sure to make connections with his audience including multiple city mentions, playing our national anthem and making sure the audience understood that words he writes are more than just feelgood lyrics. He's passionate about relating his music to people. Light show was very well done for a small venue like the Garrick. Staff did an excellent job.

    Amazing

by KMill on 2010-01-19The Starlite Room - Edmonton

This was one of the best concerts I've ever been to. Sound quality was excellent and jon Foreman seems to have a real presence like in front of a crowd is where he belongs. To those who are fans of their latest album the band did not dissapoint playing the whole cd and some older hits and it was one of those rare occurances where the live performance is better than the recorded work. Too anyone who has not seen switchfoot perform live it is certainly a must see.

    So good.

by astrangemusician on 2010-01-19MACEWAN BALLROOM - CALGARY

They started the set by playing the Hello Hurricane album start to finish (which was amazing!) and it was even better than listening to the cd. After a few favourites, they did a medley of Chem 6a (from their 1997 debut) and Company Car (from their softmore release in 1999) for all us 'old school fans' which was great. The only song I would have taken out of the set would have been Oh! Gravity, but mind you that is my least favourite album of theirs. I would have also liked to hear more from Nothing Is Sound (they only played Stars), but other than those 2 minor things (which are really really minor), the show was unbelievable as usual. Switchfoot brought down the house and played for about 2 hours. I can't wait till they come back!

    Switchfoot Does It Again!

by cranberries on 2010-01-18Louis' Pub - Saskatoon

Switchfoot played at Louis' Pub for a crowd of devoted fans. The show was sold out before many people (who made the mistake of not purchasing tickets in advance) even got in the door! The show was opened by a southern band, Paper Tongues, who did a great job of entertaining the crowd and getting them ready for the headlining band, SWITCHFOOT!! This being the Hello Hurricane tour, one would hope that they would play their new tracks, and they did. They ran the CD track list from first to last and in order with a lot of great interludes and interpretations. They started with Jon being among the crowd which let everyone know it was time to start rocking. When finished their Hello Hurricane album, they moved backwards and played tracks from their previous three albums: "Oh! Gravity", "Nothing Is Sound", and "Beautiful Letdown". The encore was "Awakening" and "Meant to Live" which are both a lot of fun, and again, Jon was in the crowd for the first encore song. It was a great atmosphere since nearly everyone there knew most of the words to all of the songs and so there was great crowd participation. I would have been willing to stay for another hour or two to hear more of their songs, but alas, it was not meant to be. All in all, I feel really bad for those of whom couldn't get tickets, and am really glad I didn't take the $100 offered to me for my ticket.
