About

Switchfoot are a Grammy-winning rock band from San Diego, California. Formed in 1996 by brothers Jon and Tim Foreman and drummer Chad Butler, the group released three albums before gaining major label attention following several prominent syncs in the 2002 romantic drama A Walk to Remember. In 2003, Switchfoot released their breakout fourth album The Beautiful Letdown, which went triple-platinum behind the band’s first Hot 100-charting singles “Meant to Live” and “Dare You to Move.” Their 2005 follow-up, Nothing Is Sound, hit a career-peak No. 3 on the Billboard 200, and the band would log another three Top 10 albums with 2011’s Vice Verses, 2014’s Fading West and 2016’s Where the Light Shines Through. Additionally, Switchfoot have earned six No. 1s on the Top Christian Albums chart, and their 2009 effort Hello Hurricane nabbed the band’s first Grammy for Best Rock or Rap Gospel Album. In 2023, Switchfoot released The Beautiful Letdown (Our Version), a 20th anniversary re-recording via their self-run independent label, lowercase people records.

  • Switchfoot delivered the goods, big time!!

by tjmac on 2010-01-19The Garrick Centre - WinnipegRating: 5 out of 5

They were interactive, and engaging. They played the whole new album (unheard of!!). They sound as good in person as they do on their recordings. A very talented band. A very entertaining concert. Couldn't have asked for anything else. Will see them again, without a doubt!!

  • another solid performance by Switchfoot

    by mfo2 on 2010-01-19The Garrick Centre - WinnipegRating: 5 out of 5

This band's live show is unforgettable! The music is tight, and I'm super impressed with the energy and heart they put into every song. They seem to strike a great balance between adding some "surprise" elements as far as song formats go, yet being predictable enough that people feel like they can participate and "own" the music. Lots of crowd-singing-along type thing. It felt very intimate in a still high-energy-rock-out type of way. They do a phenomenal job of "being present" with their audience and acting as if they care that they're here, now. How they do that every night, I don't know. Their live performance is such that they can sell you on a song (live) that you may not have gravitated to in its recorded form. I thoroughly enjoyed myself!

Great show. Switchfoot frontman Jon Foreman showed great interaction with the crowd. He made sure to make connections with his audience including multiple city mentions, playing our national anthem and making sure the audience understood that words he writes are more than just feelgood lyrics. He's passionate about relating his music to people. Light show was very well done for a small venue like the Garrick. Staff did an excellent job.

  • Amazing

by KMill on 2010-01-19The Starlite Room - EdmontonRating: 5 out of 5

This was one of the best concerts I've ever been to. Sound quality was excellent and jon Foreman seems to have a real presence like in front of a crowd is where he belongs. To those who are fans of their latest album the band did not dissapoint playing the whole cd and some older hits and it was one of those rare occurances where the live performance is better than the recorded work. Too anyone who has not seen switchfoot perform live it is certainly a must see.

  • So good.

by astrangemusician on 2010-01-19MACEWAN BALLROOM - CALGARYRating: 5 out of 5

They started the set by playing the Hello Hurricane album start to finish (which was amazing!) and it was even better than listening to the cd. After a few favourites, they did a medley of Chem 6a (from their 1997 debut) and Company Car (from their softmore release in 1999) for all us 'old school fans' which was great. The only song I would have taken out of the set would have been Oh! Gravity, but mind you that is my least favourite album of theirs. I would have also liked to hear more from Nothing Is Sound (they only played Stars), but other than those 2 minor things (which are really really minor), the show was unbelievable as usual. Switchfoot brought down the house and played for about 2 hours. I can't wait till they come back!

  • Switchfoot Does It Again!

by cranberries on 2010-01-18Louis' Pub - SaskatoonRating: 5 out of 5

Switchfoot played at Louis' Pub for a crowd of devoted fans. The show was sold out before many people (who made the mistake of not purchasing tickets in advance) even got in the door! The show was opened by a southern band, Paper Tongues, who did a great job of entertaining the crowd and getting them ready for the headlining band, SWITCHFOOT!! This being the Hello Hurricane tour, one would hope that they would play their new tracks, and they did. They ran the CD track list from first to last and in order with a lot of great interludes and interpretations. They started with Jon being among the crowd which let everyone know it was time to start rocking. When finished their Hello Hurricane album, they moved backwards and played tracks from their previous three albums: "Oh! Gravity", "Nothing Is Sound", and "Beautiful Letdown". The encore was "Awakening" and "Meant to Live" which are both a lot of fun, and again, Jon was in the crowd for the first encore song. It was a great atmosphere since nearly everyone there knew most of the words to all of the songs and so there was great crowd participation. I would have been willing to stay for another hour or two to hear more of their songs, but alas, it was not meant to be. All in all, I feel really bad for those of whom couldn't get tickets, and am really glad I didn't take the $100 offered to me for my ticket.

Amazing!!! They are the coolest, down to earth rock stars I have ever met!! The energy of the band and the 25 song set was well worth 20 bucks!

Probably the most epic concert I've seen in a long time! SO GOOD! <3

  • Simply Amazing Show!!!

    by ConcertFan18 on 2010-01-18MACEWAN BALLROOM - CALGARYRating: 5 out of 5

Switchfoot always puts on such a great show. I have seen the band 6 times now and I never get sick of the experience. When I heard they were starting the show with the entire Hello Hurricane album I was a little hesitant on how the show would turn out, however I was pleasantly surprised. The boys put so much passion and dedication into the music and they playing live really illustrates how much this music means to them.

  • the best ever!!!

  • Wow! almost 2 hours non stop!!

by mahl on 2010-01-18MACEWAN BALLROOM - CALGARYRating: 5 out of 5

The concert was GREAT!!! Switchfoot played just short of 2 hours. I have never been to a concert when that has happened! Loved that they played the whole new CD first and then some of the older songs. I own "Gravity" so I don't know many of their songs, typically that matters to me but not in this case. I am buying their new CD based on what I heard Sat night....again, not typical of me. I will definately be at the next concert, this time with ear plugs in! Fabulous show!

  • Meah

by Anonymous on 2010-01-18MACEWAN BALLROOM - CALGARYRating: 2 out of 5

Venue was not good for this band, it was so loud I went back for earplugs. The band also decided to play their entire album from beginning to end (new album) which lets be honest very few bands have enough good songs on a single album to make this fun for the audience. Had we known this we probably would not have bought tickets. As it was we left early to go to the bar. Band sounded great at least, it was just a boring and unengaging concert.

Switchfoot put on such a great show. Saw them last time they were here, and to be honest, I wasn't all that impressed. This time round they were fantastic! Would definitely go see them again. Great performance and an incredible set list(played their new album front to back in addition to some older stuff). Well done guys!

  • Switchfoot still the best

by Ptolemy on 2010-01-18The Starlite Room - EdmontonRating: 5 out of 5

Switchfoot put on yet another great concert. They played their last album in its entirety, which was unusual. Many of those songs are mellow so it wasn't the most rocking of concerts in my opinion. They ended the show off with many of the favorites from the last 6 albums, and each song was amazing.

  • by Anonymous on 2010-01-18Louis' Pub - SaskatoonRating: 5 out of 5

Absolutely incredible! Great venue, even better band. Would recommend to everyone!!

  • Switchfoot was Outstanding!

by MisterX on 2010-01-18MACEWAN BALLROOM - CALGARYRating: 5 out of 5

This was an excellent performance no question about it. You won't find too many bands that play their entire new album cover to cover plus several of their classics! They played for about 2 hrs solid. It's also pretty impressive when a band can put on a live performance that sounds as good or better than there CD.

  • Awesome

by LadyLaughter on 2010-01-18Louis' Pub - SaskatoonRating: 5 out of 5

Switchfoot makes incredibly awesome music...its nothing unexpected that their concerts reflect the same great sound and energy. Great concert!

  • Switchfoot was EXCELLENT

by CurlySue on 2010-01-17MACEWAN BALLROOM - CALGARYRating: 5 out of 5

Switchfoot was an excellent group to go see live. Their stage presence was great, and the show was interesting, new, and fun. I liked hearing the new album, and of course, singing along with the old songs. The had good interaction with the crowd.

Best show I have ever seen! Bring them back to Edmonton soon!
