About

Switchfoot are a Grammy-winning rock band from San Diego, California. Formed in 1996 by brothers Jon and Tim Foreman and drummer Chad Butler, the group released three albums before gaining major label attention following several prominent syncs in the 2002 romantic drama A Walk to Remember. In 2003, Switchfoot released their breakout fourth album The Beautiful Letdown, which went triple-platinum behind the band’s first Hot 100-charting singles “Meant to Live” and “Dare You to Move.” Their 2005 follow-up, Nothing Is Sound, hit a career-peak No. 3 on the Billboard 200, and the band would log another three Top 10 albums with 2011’s Vice Verses, 2014’s Fading West and 2016’s Where the Light Shines Through. Additionally, Switchfoot have earned six No. 1s on the Top Christian Albums chart, and their 2009 effort Hello Hurricane nabbed the band’s first Grammy for Best Rock or Rap Gospel Album. In 2023, Switchfoot released The Beautiful Letdown (Our Version), a 20th anniversary re-recording via their self-run independent label, lowercase people records.

I have to say it was amazing. Their songs are sang with such emotion, such heart, and plus their lead singer's voice is unbelieveable. God has definitely given him such a talent for song writing.

It was an excellent show ! I'd love seeing them in a small venue like MacEwan Hall. I'd go again

  • Switchfoot was remarkable

The opening act, Paper Tongues, was really good. They were the right band to open. They really set the tone for a great show. Switchfoot played their new album, Hello Hurricane, from track 1 to 12 which we've never heard of. This was special. This band really enjoys playing and playing together. They're so strong. Jon Foreman is such a strong singer.

Awesome show in a great venue. Sound quality was superb. Very cool to see a band play the new album front to back (especially when it is a great album).

Great concert, good people. Amazing songs. Awesome that they played through the whole Hello Hurricane cd, then play some of their older stuff. Great mix of songs, great energy.

  • Switchfoot even better LIVE!

by Deadbeat on 2010-01-16The Starlite Room - EdmontonRating: 5 out of 5

First off, The Starlite Room is the most uncomfortable venue I've been in and it is also the BEST possible venue for a concert! The band opened with a Pink Floyd moment by playing the entire new Hello Hurricane CD, start to finish, but they were so energetic and true to the CD, nobody complained, we just enjoyed the performance. The 2nd hour cranked off 8 or 9 of their hits plus gems they don't usually play live like Daisy. The intimacy of the small venue played a huge factor for me and it was like a party with 500 of my closest friends. It was apparent Switchfoot felt the same way. It was like 12 years ago, raw, energetic, true to the CD and FOR THE FANS. I'm 46, have been to 100s of concerts, all the huge bands, but THIS, this is what a rock concert should be, the most fun I've had in many years. The opening act PAPER TONGUES was also very exciting, their 4 song Cd played with 100 times more energy than the CD. Superb. You know those beer commercials where they show a huge party/concert, everyone jumping up and down having a great time, THAT WAS FRIDAY NIGHT.

  • Switchfoot is nothing but engaging

What can I say. If you're looking for an experience that makes you loose yourself and get closer to the things you don't understand, then this is for you. Switchfoot is the most talented and engaging band I have ever seen. Jon Foreman is such an amazing front man. He never quits and is always leading you further into the music. Stellar show!

  • Switchfoot at the Starlite - AMAZING!

by littlepenguin on 2010-01-16The Starlite Room - EdmontonRating: 5 out of 5

I was worried when I heard that they would be playing at such a small venue, but it turned out to be perfect! The show felt intimate. Jon Foreman actually jumped off the stage and walked through the crowd a few times. The only other times I've seen bands do this, it's usually been prearranged and they are accompanied by security. This show wasn't like that at all. Switchfoot put on a fantastic show in Edmonton. I almost wish that I could fly to Toronto to watch them again!

I've seen Switchfoot six times in various cities and venues, and, while they are consistently great, this was easily their best show. The smaller venue allowed for a lot of crowd interaction, at which they excel, including entire songs performed from within the audience and at various other points throughout the room. The setlist was also very strong, as they played their entire new album from start to finish for about an hour, and then spent another 45 minutes playing older songs. If you have a chance to see Switchfoot live, definitely go for it.

  • Switchfoot was AMAZING

by DarDarla on 2010-01-16The Starlite Room - EdmontonRating: 5 out of 5

The venue was beautiful, the only downside was the lack of sitting space... I was lucky enough to get a seat overlooking the whole show but only because I lined up 2 hours early. Switchfoot was amazing, they were great on show and once they started singing it was non-stop fun.

  • It was so Amazing!!!

    by AJ001 on 2010-01-16The Starlite Room - EdmontonRating: 5 out of 5

Switchfoot did such a good job. They truly seemed like they were connected to something bigger and made the audience feel the same. Awesome is all i have to say!

amazing, energetic concert! So glad my friends asked me to go!

  • Must see!!

by Anonymous on 2010-01-16The Starlite Room - EdmontonRating: 5 out of 5

Wow, what an experience! They give you 100% of themselves and leave nothing behind every night--pure entertainment in the true sense of the word-- and seem to get better and better, everytime I see them.

  • Just what I expected

by Anonymous on 2010-01-16The Starlite Room - EdmontonRating: 5 out of 5

Switchfoot really follows through at their concerts by giving a really high energy performance that gets the audience involved. It's awesome to see them play in such a small personal venue where you can be a part of the experience.

  • by Anonymous on 2010-01-14Commodore Ballroom - VancouverRating: 4 out of 5

Band was great! Unforgettable! But I didn't appreciate having to wait 90min for the opening act to come out. Being tardy is acceptable, afterall, everyone is, at one point or another; however, keeping people waiting (in a venue with very limited seats) for 90min is getting to be rude. I would have enjoyed the show more if my legs weren't cramping up from standing and waiting.

  • Switchfoot were impressive!

by Anonymous on 2010-01-14Commodore Ballroom - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

For a band that doesn't have a huge following, it's really a shame. This band is fantastic. They put on an amazing show, full of energy and they play so tight. Loved the concept of playing the new album in it's entirety followed by some older hits.

  • So good

    by imdb39 on 2010-01-14Commodore Ballroom - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

This is the 3rd time I've seen Switchfoot and they keep getting better and better. They started by singing 'Hello Hurricane' in its entirety, the whole 12 songs and continued with some brilliant songs from various older albums such as Gone, Meant To Live, 24, and many others, and they finished up with a wonderful encore of Dare You To Move, and needless to say I was moved, they played for 2 solid hours, amazing. I have been a fan of Switchfoot for many years and wish them continued success. The opening act 'Paper Tongues' started the show off well, the lead singer has tremendous stage presence.

  • Switchfoot! Vancouver!
