About

ABOUT TAYLOR SWIFT

She is, quite simply, a global superstar.

Taylor Swift is a seven-time GRAMMY winner, and the youngest recipient in history of the music industry’s highest honor, the GRAMMY Award for Album of the Year. She is the only female artist in music history (and just the fourth artist ever) to twice have an album hit the 1 million first-week sales figure (2010’s Speak Now and 2012’s RED). She’s a household name whose insanely catchy yet deeply personal self-penned songs transcend music genres, and a savvy businesswoman who has built a childhood dream into an empire.

But the numbers don’t tell Taylor's story half as well as she could. After all, it’s the intangibles that elevate Swift into the stratosphere of our pop culture planet, allowing the 24-year old singer-songwriter to orbit in a more rarified air. Her large-scale charitable contributions are one thing, but it’s in the small gestures – the notes of compassion she posts on the Instagram photos of lovelorn fans, the genuine hugs she distributes without discretion – where Swift proves time and time again that platinum-selling, record-setting success has not changed her inherent nature. She is awkwardly honest and powerfully empathetic; a brazen superfan, loyal friend, fierce protector of hearts; and one of the world’s greatest ambassadors for the power of just being yourself.

Granted, for Taylor, “being herself” tends towards shimmering, gossamer perfection – but that’s an image regularly blown whenever she dons fake braces and a tri-pony to clown around on late night TV. She’s the first artist since the Beatles (and the only female artist in history) to log six or more weeks at #1 with three consecutive studio albums, and while she’s been named one of Time magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in the World, she’s probably the only person on that list who uses social media to post notes to her best friends and videos of her cats.

As Billboard’s only artist to receive this nod twice and youngest-ever Woman of the Year prepares to release her fifth album, 1989, she finds herself, as always, in the glare of a blinding spotlight of expectation – but if you think that scares her, you haven’t been paying attention. She calls 1989 her most sonically cohesive collection, and armed with a multiple-week international No. 1 debut single, “Shake It Off,” she’s ready to blaze into the next phase of her still-young career, where she’ll continue to dance like no one’s watching, write like she stole our collective diary, and inevitably soar to ever-greater heights. All that’s left to wonder is how many more lives she’ll lift in the process.

Taylor Swift - Sparkling Performance in Calgary

by CalgaryFan on 2009-07-09Pengrowth Saddledome - Calgary

Last night I went to the Taylor Swift concert with two of my friends. During the concert Taylor Swift did not refer to any of us as "fans" the entire audience was referred to as her "friends". When Taylor said this all I heard was screams at the fact that she could be so genuine as to see us has friends. Between songs Taylor would talk, she was telling everything she has experienced and why she wrote a certain song for example "Teardrops on my guitar", she was sarcastic, hilarious and all around an amazlingly nice person! At one point a song got a little screwy but she kept going like nothing had happened.... which I could never do! Halfway through the song she walked down the aisle in which she had been preforming and started to hug and take pictures with fans. How many singers would do that in the middle of the concert? After singing Tim MaGraw, the crowd cheered for a solid 5 minuets, when we finally stopped she simply went to the mic and said "Calgary..... I will never forget that!" To hear that it actually brought some tears to some eyes (including mine), because knowing that she could remeber a city like us is so cool! Even though most of Taylor Swifts' songs are about heartbreaks and hard times in school she relates to even some 13 year olds just like me. Every girl will go through a heartbreak, want there fairytale fantasy and burn there ex-boyfriends pictures just like Taylor, and that is how she can relate to so many teenage girls. This was the first time I have ever seen Taylor Swift in concert, she was amazing, my perfect role modle, and I will never ever ever forget this experiance! Thank-you Taylor for being such an amazing person for teens and tweens to look up too! <3

    Taylor Swift was excellent

by ImpressedMom on 2009-07-09Pengrowth Saddledome - Calgary

Taylor Swift put on a wonderful, entertaining show. She is a great performer. It was a special touch when she performed at the back of the Saddledome which allowed people with less than perfect seats to get up and personal with her. It was especially touching when she went into the crowd and hugged her fans. An extremely talented 19 year old!

    Taylor Swift

by Camille on 2009-07-09Pengrowth Saddledome - Calgary

Taylor Swift has a ton of energy and is quite the performer. I had a fantastic time at the show, although it was pretty cheesy at times and her speeches all sounded very rehearsed. All in all, it was a good show and I'd recommend it.

Excellent Show. The sound guy should have done a sound check in the south side........that boom boom boom boom boom boom bass all night must have damaged a lot of ear drums. My ears are still sore.

    Taylor Swift was Unforgettable

    by Kara26lloyd on 2009-07-09Pengrowth Saddledome - Calgary

This was by far the best concert I have ever seen!!! Myself as well as the 3 others that came with me left in awe! It was like watching a Fairytale unfold infront of your eyes. The message that Taylor sends across is not only powerful it is extreamly insperational.

    Pre teen aim

by midtwentys on 2009-07-09Pengrowth Saddledome - Calgary

Taylor was stunning, she had many backrounds, tons of outfits, she interacted with the crowd; coming out to touch, hug and take pics with her fans. She was a great performer but I couldn't help but feel like I was the oldest fan in the whole place! Tons of screaming pre teen girls was enough to make me feel like I was at a new kids on the block concert! I wish I could have taken my little cousin or something so I felt better being there! But that all aside, Taylor has a beautiful voice and loves to act out her different characters in her songs. I won't be suprised if she takes up acting one day. She is a great performer and worth seeing, just bring your childern with you if you can!

    Dazzled!!

by Lorinda on 2009-07-09Pengrowth Saddledome - Calgary

What a great concert!! Kelly Pickler was great and Taylor Swift was amazing! Taylor had a sincere way of showing her gratitude to the fans for being there to see her show and not to mention coming out and standing in the crowd and singing to the fans at the back of the building 1/2 way up the building was awesome. She seems to be a very nice young lady and should be recognized for that! Great work!! The 2nd small turning stage at the back was great too, not everyone can get tickets close to the front of the building so having this stage made it better for the people in the back as well.

AMAZING SHOW!!!, This was one of the best concerts I have ever seen, and Ive seen the greats, Garth, Paisley, Urban, Brooks and Dunn and many more. The opening acts were great, but Taylor stole the show...The performance was amazing. For someone so new to the game, she has amazing stage presence and great crowd control. The theatrical portions of the show and videos were awsome.Great all around experience.THIS IS A MUST SEE SHOW

    Wow What a Concert!!

by TLJGOOSE on 2009-07-09Pengrowth Saddledome - Calgary

Taylor Swift is truly the Princess of Country Music. She appears to be generally appreciative of her fan base. She is a beautiful young women & a remarkable performer. I wouldn't hesitate to attend a concert of hers again. The price of the ticket was also reasonable for the entertainment value received.
