About

Unlike other '80s metal bands, Testament’s fan base hasn't diminished with the accumulation of years. In fact, when Testament dropped "Dark Roots of Earth" in 2012, the disc entered the Billboard 200 at No. 12, the highest chart position the band has seen in its career. As every ticket holder in the metal underground knows, Testament concerts are built on furious riffs and aggressive harmonies. In fact, Testament became known for their virtuosic control and melodic crunch, an approach to thrash metal that set them apart from their contemporaries, many of whom just wanted to play as fast and as loud as possible on tour. Whether Testament is playing new material in concert or classics from the '80s, be prepared for pyrotechnics, headbanging, moshing and a stage set that looks like the lurid artwork from one of their famous album covers.

The 1980s are considered the heyday of American thrash metal, and the Bay Area was a hotbed for bands that liked their riffs hard and their solos fast. No ardent fan or music critic would dispute that. Many metal bands that exploded onto the scene in the '80s and rode the wave of MTV exposure, being featured on the music network’s legendary "Headbanger’s Ball" program, fell into obscurity when '90s grunge became popular, but Testament continued to battle on. Testament's first three albums, which include "The Legacy" (1987), "The New Order (1988)" and "Practice What You Preach" (1989), are the bands most popular, beloved by metal heads around the globe. In a 30-year career that has featured 10 studio albums, four live albums, six compilations and 1.4 million records sold in the U.S., Testament continue to play fast and hard, touring all over the world with bands like Judas Priest, Anthrax, Megadeth, Exodus and Lamb of God.

    Testament Concert Review

by CK on 2022-10-13Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

The only issue was the Commodore Ballroom staff were really slow at letting people into the venue. I missed half of Death Angel's set due to the long line for entry. The concert itself was awesome.

    SO LOUD

by BlakeLabelSociety on 2022-10-12Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

First off, of all the concerts I’ve been too, this might’ve been the loudest. Death Angel was amazing, one of the best vocal performances I’ve witnessed. Exodus got the crowd going nuts, with an intense mosh pit and wall of death. Testament was just as good as I expected them to be, great musicianship and a heck of a show. All vocalist were awesome with interacting and talking with the crowd and that’s one thing I love. Hate going to a show and singers don’t talk to the crowd at all.

    Thrash metal rules!

by metalyoshi on 2022-10-09Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

Testament and Death Angel really brought it to the Burt. 12/10. Exodus was great as usual too but the other two are thrash metal excellence - on a different level.

    Good Concert, Bad Sound Mix

by Brian on 2022-10-09Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

All three bands gave good performances. The sound mix at the Burt was very weak. I've attended many shows at this venue and typically sound mix is good. This was not the case for this show.

by Maty T on 2022-10-09Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

Death Angel, Exodus and Testament kicked some serious ass and are certainly keeping metal alive. Super humble dudes that are still heavily driven to keep building there craft. Thanks for the kick-ass show \m/

    Testament

by Sylvain on 2022-10-05MTELUS - Montreal

    Great show...muddy sound.

by TDS on 2022-10-04MTELUS - Montreal

The show was great. All the bands were excellent. Great lights also. However, the sound was muddy for all the bands. The mix sounded strange.

Great show, loved all the bands

    by Blinker73 on 2022-10-04MTELUS - Montreal

The only negative point is I caught COVID. It had to happen some day but in no way this reduces my rating of the show. Electric Crown was my favorite song.

    The Bay Struck Back Hard

by Lordofhaggis on 2022-10-04London Music Hall - London

Felt like 1988 with a much better PA System last night. Death Angel came in hot with a couple of times from their classic debut “The Ultra-Violence and never took their foot of the gas pedal during their 50 minute set. Mark Osegueda is a master frontman who still has the powerful voice and Rob Cavestany, master of his six-string craft. A smattering of their finest tunes left the crowd hungry for more. If Death Angel set the table, Exodus set down a platter of bloody violent meat to elevate the crowd by igniting the pit and beckoning the crowd surfers, giving the yellow-shirted security at front of stage a crash-course in thrash metal history. “Zetro” was in top form, manipulating his hungry violence seekers as Gary Holt and Lee Altus took turns ripping faces off with riffs and leads. Drummer Tom Hunting showed that not even cancer can take a thrash metal speed merchant down. Bassist Jack Russell was about as lively as an extra from the Walking Dead but he hit all the right notes and, with the thrash psycho-carnival going on around him, nobody really noticed. 13 songs(4 from their debut album) of face-melting thrash sprinting was the musical amphetamine that the crowd, who came from far and wide, couldn’t get enough of. In the spot on a stacked classic thrash bill that would cause a lesser band’s knees to buckle, Testament, turned in an admirable 90-minute set of polished oldies and recent songs spanning their almost 40 years. A veritable metal super group, with three of the classic lineup plus returning drum legend Dave Lombardo and long-serving 5-string bass monster Steve DiGiorgio(Sadus, Death, Obituary, Autopsy, Dragonlord, Iced Earth. etc.,) holding down the rhythm section like a freighter full of anvils, the thrash tools are all their. With a few more bells and whistles than afforded the earlier bands, the mix and volume almost did a disservice to Testament as, at times, Skolnick and Eric Peterson’s leads weren’t able to cut through juggernaut of blunt sonic trauma. Big Chuck Billy connected with the crowd between songs and added fuel to the fires of the pit with his powerful vocals, even going full ‘cookie monster’ during “The Formation of Damnation.” Testament brought most of the essential classics from their first 3 or 4 albums, a good sampling from their most recent few and a few gems from in between. Finishing the show with 3 tracks from their debut record, “The Legacy,” with the essential “Into the Pit” thrown into the mix was the perfect way to pump any remaining nuclear energy from the sweaty metal throngs of the Forest City! The Bay most certainly struck back on a magical Saturday night with a classic thrash triple threat for the ages.

    Amazing!

by Lisamarie on 2022-10-04London Music Hall - London

This sold out concert was my first one since before covid. It was crowded and crazy. No room to walk or breath and I loved every minute of it. This venue never fails to provide the best concert experience. The security is on point and visible everywhere just in case you need them.
