  • Cinderella

by Anonymous on 2009-11-10Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 3 out of 5

The Ballet should start on time without a "warm up"act - especially on week nights. We have seen the Moscow Ballet perform previously and enjoyed them. This one was not up to par. (the local kids were cute though)

  • real ballet

by Charlenne on 2009-11-10Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 5 out of 5

The beginning was okay, but what I really liked was the achievement at these peoples. I will come back when Balshoi teatre will be here with "The Swan Lake". Thank you !!!

  • A Complete Abomination

by Pashaw on 2009-11-10Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 1 out of 5

During the introduction, given by CTV's Barb Higgins, I first learned that partial proceeds of the evening were being donated to Recovery Acres Society, and that more than 40 dancers would be unpaid, unprofessional, local talent. The performance was abominable and I left after the intermission because the only thing worse than sitting through the first half would have been to suffer through the second half. I paid $116 to see the Moscow Ballet, the very name suggesting first class professional dancing. I expected to be entertained and dazzled. Nothing could be farther from the truth. I also expected to see a live orchestra - not canned music. I do not object to proceeds going to the Recovery Acres Society but if this was a charity event then give me a tax receipt because that's the only thing that will take the sting out of this fiasco. If they had tried to pull off this farse in Europe they would have been booed off the stage but we Albertans are too polite for that. Shame, Shame, Shame on all involved.

  • Moscow's Cnderella absolutely amazing!

by prah57 on 2009-11-10Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 5 out of 5

As this was my first ballet, I was not quite sure to expect. My greatest fear was that, like in the movies, I would be extremely bored the entire performance. Not the case. From the moment the curtains opened I knew I was in for an enjoyable experience. With an unforgettable cast, fantastistly ornate costumes and beautiful choreagraphy, the Moscow Ballet's Cinderella was an immensly pleasurable experience, which I reccomend to individuals of all ages.

  • MOSCOW BALLET'S CINDERELLA

by Lida on 2009-11-10Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 4 out of 5

We saw it last night, enjoyed it, but it started to late for my 5y old daughter. And then we had a singer, short speech and everything took too long. There were many kids and our concern is that we cannot take kids to a show like this on a work day any more. Also, somehow we missed that half of the dancers are from Calgary and that this Ballet group is from The States not Russia (Russian roots...).

  • Great !!

by Baboon on 2009-11-10Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 4 out of 5

Though the ballet was great and we had a wonderful time-I would recommend to start it earlier next time-considering that it was Monday and the next day is school and we all have to go to work.A lot of people were leaving around 9:30 pm,as the kids were tired and sleepy,as well as the most of adults. We also were not fond of the opening act-it was too long, seemed like we came to listen to the music of Jenn Beaupre, not to see The Great Cinderella story.

  • Cinderella review

by professorAngus on 2009-11-10Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 5 out of 5

Cinderella was an amazing production. The performers were unparallelled and the inclusion of the young dancers from Calgary was not only nice, but beautiful and fitting with the production. The only bad moment of the evening was the opening performer, and I use that term loosely. Not only was this singer a very poor fit for such an opulent and world renowned production, but the quality of her singing and song writing was sub par at best. I don't know why or how Jenn Beaupre was asked to play last night, but it was an awful performance. The bar should be higher for performances at the Jubilee, most especially performances opening for the Moscow Ballet.

  • The Cinderella Ballett was not that great

by Naomi on 2009-11-10Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 2 out of 5

I must admitt, I was disappointed with the Cinderella Ballett. It seemed unorganized, started half an hour late and it also didn't seem like some of the dancers were up tp par. When you pay minimum $50.00 to go to a ballett you don't go to see amateur dancers. I love going to see the different shows at the Jubilee, but this was very disappointing! I saw and LOVED the Nutcracker, Lord of the Dance, Alice in Wonderland and the Lion King in the last year.

  • Moscow Ballet - Cinderella

by sxkitten on 2009-11-10Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 4 out of 5

I thought the production was wonderful. Was a little taken back that calgary dancers were included in the performance, considering the cost of the tickets. We paid $300.00 to see the World famous Moscow Ballet perform. I'm all for supporting local artists, but not at the expense of the ticket holder. Overall. was thrilled with Cinderella and the Prince's performance. Will go to another ballet production, and would recommend the production to others.

  • a couple moments only

by DancesportBabe on 2009-11-10Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 2 out of 5

Cinderella's title character had some amazing virtuoso moments, as did the Prince and the Messenger characters, the rest was a bit disorganized and not very impressive. It was a nice touch to include local dancers, and of course the very young local dancers were very cute, but that does not carry an entire, full length ballet.

  • Not Cinderella

by normo on 2009-11-10Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 2 out of 5

This performance was very lacklustre. The local dancers were good, but the backup dancers in the troupe seemed to not care very much. So, all in all, ok but not great.

  • Cinders for Ella

by GazergirlYYC on 2009-11-10Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 2 out of 5

While the skill and precision of ballet was well presented, this performance left a lot to be desired. The sets and costumes seemed second rate, and the story didn't translate well to the stage. I know I wasn't alone in feeling bored and disconnected soon into the show. What's with the fairies; and were those dancing chickens? I understand the cute factor in having community kids involved, but they were clearly superfluous. As mice, they would have been a sure hit. Where was the coach? The pumpkin? The clock? The GLASS SLIPPER? The fairy godmother and most importantly, the transformation of rags to ballgown!! The hopeless romantic in me was sorely disappointed.

  • Never see such horrible performance

by JulianaSweet on 2009-11-10Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 1 out of 5

I am very disappointed. Performance is horrible. Performance could not be worse. I did not belive that the music created by Tchaikovsky. Tickets are very expensive. I'm very tired be supporting not professionals. The play was like student performance and so far be professional.

  • by Anonymous on 2009-11-10Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 5 out of 5

We like it very much, only comment that we have is that is a little too late for young kids, since they can be complaining and tired, other than that excellent!!!!

  • late event

by MariyaCalgary on 2009-11-10Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 3 out of 5

The ballet itself was good. However it started later then expected due to some singer opening act which we really did not care for. Finally we had to leave because my daughter was very tired.

  • Oh Cinderella!!!

  • Unforgettable Evening

by Dreaming on 2009-11-10Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 5 out of 5

You will be captured into a dreamy evening of song and dance, watching the characters in beautiful costumes flutter, twirl, leap and glide across the stage. The story line was very easy to follow with little side stories going on in the mix. Cinderella is the first Ballet I have seen and I have to say I will be watching for more productions from the Moscow Ballet. A night to remember.

  • Cinderella was a delightful performance

by Senior on 2009-11-10Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 4 out of 5

The ballet performances of the entire cast was superb. The backdrops added to the scenes, but were subtle enough to not be intrusive. The solo dancers were magical. The "ugly" sisters added humour as well as skill. The young, inexperienced dancers delighted the audience.

  • Awful! Out 0f Sync! Horrible!!

by Superstar75 on 2009-11-10Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 1 out of 5

I almost thought that I was in one of those joke tv shows! I couldn't believe my eyes how awful it was!! TOTALLY out of sync, barely any beauty & flowing lines of the dancers. Lacked story luster. I couldn't follow it at first, had no idea what was going on, who was who. I was so extemely disappointed. I rather enjoy my theatre experience and productons from all sorts and this -by far- was the worst! Joni Mitchell's Ballet production was excellent. Modern with a twist of traditional. Alberta Ballet's production of Romeo & Juliet was also just beautiful. Kept me enticed til the end. Had funny parts. Totally entertaining. This was just god-awful. Thanks goodness that part of the proceeds to go charity or I would be even more upset.

  • cindirella was moving and powerful

by Annonymous1999 on 2009-11-10Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 5 out of 5

Since I enjoy live performances and did enjoy seats close to the stage I was expecting to be drawn into the performance. I was not disapointed. Not only each type of character but the performance flow enticed me to be involved. I found myself even holding breath a few times , particularly at the prince's solos. It was of great fortune that I was able to be in Calgary early enough and purchase tickets to such a grand performance. Inclusion of the little dancers was absolutely beyond words. I am certain their parents were bursting with pride as well as the audience. Bravo for the Moscow Ballet! Bravo!
