An experience decades in the making
by EdT on 2023-10-14The Danforth Music Hall - TorontoThis show was a real treat. I've been a fan of The Mission since '87 and just never had a time to see them. So when these shows were announced more than a year ago (with The Chameleons and Theatre of Hate, no less), I quickly bought a ticket for the show in Chicago at Thalia Hall. Circumstance took me to the Toronto area so I had to miss the Chicago show, and I thankfully managed to catch them at The Danforth instead. All three bands were in peak form and TOH were a revelation, the albums sound so tinny and they sounded so powerful live. The Chameleons sounded absolutely amazing, the guitars were chiming and Mark's bellow was powerful and clear. Personally, I thought that the sound mix on The Mission could have used a little bit more bottom end and I could have used a bit more of Wayne's guitar. Nonetheless, the band were in great form and played so many of my personal favourites that it's hard to complain. I never truly appreciated how much the Sisters of Mercy guitar sound came over with Wayne, so hearing that spidery vintage gothic sound was truly a treat. I hope that all three bands can keep going, would see each of them in a heartbeat.
