Anastasia Stashkevich made this version of Nutcraker unforgettable. Unfortunately Sony centre do not rent or sell theater binoculars anymore. Anybody who will decide to get seats in a mezzanine should bring their own.
Have been wanting to see this for years, not disappointed, will be taking my grand-daughters to see it...
I didn't realize there were two different productions of the nutcracker until after I purchased tickets. This one felt amateur and the choreography seemed slow. A bit boring
Wonderful performance by all dancers. Loved the Russian soloists. Costumes were spectacular.
This show uses a combination of local professional Toronto dancers, young pre-professional ballet studio dancers and guest dancers from some of the worlds best ballet companies. We enjoyed the show so much we are bought tickets for the 2016 show the day they went on sale. Our favorite parts were snow scene, the Arabian pas de Deux was mesmerizing and of course Sugar Plum and the Nutcracker Prince. This year the guest dancers are 2 Principal dancers from Bolshoi Ballet....it does not get any better!
As always, the show exceeded my expectations - it was magical and exciting, memorable and filled with so many great moments. All performers were so professional and costumes were awesome!!!!! Can't wait for next year :)
Enjoyed this show very much. Sets were beautiful and the dancing was amazing!
That was my first time to see ballet on stage.Fantastic show. Love it.
What a pleasure it was to finally enjoy the highest quality of ballet dancing executed by the local company other than NBC. The group and the solos were danced in sync and with high precision, the decor and the costumes were just stunning. Amazingly, the cast was not overly big and many dancers were engaged into a few scenes, which shows you how high their quality is and how smart the show is planned out. The choreography was very creative and interesting to watch. Personally, I am glad to discover a local company that treasures the classical ballet in it's pure form at a such a high quality and I wish there was more than just the Nutcracker presented by this company, as I believe TIBT could be an alternative to the NBC's contemporary stream.
My bad - I did not realize that this particular version of the Nutcracker is what I was ordering tickets for. Had I known, I would not have taken my husband (snoozed through it) or my 7 and 10 year old granddaughters (fidgeted through it). The sets and costumes were uninspired and the pacing was like watching a children's school concert. Competent dancing but overall a lacklustre performance.
Excellent, mesmerizing performance by talented characters
decent performance and a good price point. No orchestra and amateur audience members (recording the show via a cell phone) were negatives. Overall experience was good but definitely not on par with the National Ballet of Canada production
The Nutcracker, as choreographed and performed by TIBT as always was magical, and beautiful. The sets, costumes, and music were all fabulous! Looking forward to it again next year!
The performance of the Toronto International Ballet Theatre of the Nutcracker was just amazing. Everything was done to perfection; the dancing, the music and the decoration. We went as a family with my wife and 3 teenager kids and enjoyed every moment. It was a night to remember. Well done!
What an amazing production.! The costumes were beautiful and the dancing was phenomenal! Can't wait to see it next year!
I had bought tickets to this "Nutcracker" because my wife had always wanted to see it live. Unfortunately when buying the tickets it didn't mention that this was a Canadian interpretation of the Nutcracker. It is not the original story . This has Mounties, beavers, lumberjacks and a random moose. It was different but not what I paid to see. My enjoyment of this event was ruined by the misleading title. Major disappointment.
I went to see the Nutcracker in Hamilton with my granddaughter. The piped in orchestra's sound quality was not as good as it should have been considering the exceptional speakers that were mounted and the story was original but a disappointment to my granddaughter who was expecting something else. Really? A story involving a new immigrant to our beautiful country?
I took my two granddaughters age four and nine to the show. And jab prepared them with the nutcracker music cd and the book I got when I have seen the nutcracker in Toronto under the direction from Karen Cain and also got the storybook from the ballet.the girls were prepared, excited and I brought them there own little nutcracker as a reminder of this proformence I do understand that there was no live orchestra, but the sets were not colourful, rather plain.....the greatest disappointment was the nutcracker who was NOT a dancer and his role was so minimal, the story itself change,no color ...the nutcracker never came to awake, dance just poorly played and hardly explained his role in the ballet. There was absolutely NO MAGIC in this nutcracker ballet, just beautiful mucks!
Saw the Nutcracker put on by the Cuban ballet at Hamilton Place and am so glad that I introduced my granddaughter to the original story. They did it beautifully. I did not like the Canadian twist, did not appreciate the squabbles between the children, nor the naughty little girl - carried too far, did not appreciate the old man slapping the woman's bottom. In these times inappropriate for little girls or boys. The dancing itself was fine but the choreography does not compare to the authentic rendering of the Nutcracker.
