Stones In TO
by dandylarue on 2013-05-27Air Canada Centre - TorontoThe Rolling Stones: Two and a Quarter Hours of Absolute Bliss...seen all the videos, movies, youtube clips...even the pay-per-view from last Fall...but there's nothing like seeing The Rolling Stones Live! I am writing only because I read some negative professional reviews...some Rock Critics are dumb-founded...they don' t have anything more original to say than they did when they wrote off the Stones 30 years ago as 'over-the-hill'...ha, ha, ha...they were saying that there was nothing original with the Stones then! Geez they must be frustrated that they still have to cover the shows! Too bad for them and great for the rest of us! Give me a break: 'Doom and Gloom' is as solid a rocker as' Rough Justice', 'Don't Stop', 'Flip the Switch' and 'Love is Strong'...all from the last 20 years. If today's teenagers got up off the video game couch or away from the desktop screen they might be able to dance across a stage like Mick, who is 70 years this year on the same day I turn 55! I dream I'll be that limber at 70...and how about those Rock Critics...jealous? As for the details of the first Toronto show...sure it wasn't perfect...the vocals on 'Doom and Gloom' were a little off...Mick was trying to play the guitar as well and the mix wasn't right...but we all know the lyrics anyway and sang along...plus they hadn't "ever" done Emotional Rescue live and only a few times on this current tour...it sounded a little rough but kudos for trying something new (not resting on their laurels, right critics?) That's the negative I might expect to read about in a proper review of the show...not someone's hangups about Stones music from back in the day. Again, what male does falsetto well at any age? Oh, that would would be Mick, who trains his body to be healthy (his dad was a gym teacher) so he can run around for two hours and his voice to have range so that he can put on a great show...and yes it was expensive (because that's the law of supply and demand...Econ 101). Even the Stones are a bit embarassed by such realities...Keith says so and he isn't shy about throwing the Truth around as he sees it, even if it is a shot or more at his fellow Glimmer Twin. By the way, if Keith has arthritis and his fingers are not as 'quick' as they were...he is still the master...rhythm, timing and and an original re-interpretation of songs he has played for over 40 years Hey Critics, isn't a basic education a requirement for writing op ed on popular music? If you attended the show...you've been schooled! Just saying...
