About

The Smashing Pumpkins are one of the most influential alt-rock bands of the ’90s. Billy Corgan formed the band in 1988 with guitarist James Iha. In the 1990s alone, the band released classic albums like the four-time platinum Siamese Dream (1993) — which was ranked by Rolling Stone as one of the greatest albums of all time — and the double album Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness (1995), which debuted at No.1 on Billboard 200 and produced hit singles like “1979” and “Tonight, Tonight.” The Smashing Pumpkins have toured with acts like the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Guns N’ Roses. They’ve made guest appearances on The Simpsons, won two GRAMMY Awards and have sold over 30 million albums.

Smashing Pumpkins Still Rock With New Band

    by Tim0712 on 2012-10-07ScotiaBank Saddledome - Calgary

Great music and really rocked out, played the Oceania songs from the album which is expected as it was the Oceania tour, then played his old music which was awesome. Billy seemed really real like a real person and not fake, and his voice sounded like most of his albums, not when some bands have fake stuff that makes your voice sound better. The band didn't miss a beat and threw out picks and drumsticks out to the crowd. Loved every moment of it and would prob defiantly go again.

1st concert in abt 30 years

    by Pumpkinsrock1 on 2012-10-07Rexall Place - Edmonton

I am a huge SP fan & loved the show! Wished i was on the floor but i had a good seat. If i won the lottery i'd pay to have SP come to my house to do a personal concert!

Great show - all the tunes I wanted to hear

    by MB001 on 2012-10-07Scotiabank Saddledome - Calgary

I did some pre-reading and heard that they would be playing the new album in its entirety. I was initially worried about this but the new music fits well with the rest of the Billy's tunes. After they dispensed with Oceania they launched into a killer cover of Bowie's Space Oddity before going into the classics. Also, they have no opening act. It was just 2.5 hours of Smashing Pumpkins.

    Smashing Pumpkins - Amazing!

by ScotchMan on 2012-10-07Saddledome - Calgary

Oct 4 - Calgary - Saddledome Amazing concert. Took a lot of balls to play the oceania album first for the crowd since most wouldn't know the entire album. And it was so great! Oceania is an amazing album and that is the best way to experience it. Just under 5000 people for the show which is a low turnout for capacity. Billy seemed less lively for the opening songs, but warmed up and turned into a real showman with his new bandmates. The new members Nicole, Jeff and Mike are extremely talented and fit right in with the band. The huge Oceania display for the show was also incredible. The visuals that have been programmed for the album painted a picture and shaped the new songs like no other. Top notch concert. Pumpkins keep defining themselves as a truely talented and individual band that does not conform to what most bands to in todays music scene. This type of concert is for true pumpkins fans with the entire Oceania album being played. The reviews you see from people here that don't reccomend the concert, are people likely with short attention spans, and people who listen strictly to the radio. Ignore those reviews. Double encore - Matt sang Domino (KISS Cover) from his drums, and belted it out in a way that Kiss would have been shocked and emotionally aroused to hear.

    Twins Peak-esque

by Rozz on 2012-10-07Rexall Place - Edmonton

I confess to not being familiar with the Smashing Pumpkins newer stuff. So the stuff I liked-the classic SP songs-were played at the end of the concert. Definitely a good time. The newer stuff was also pretty good. They had this screen where they projected hypnotic visual graphics (like a swirling spiral pattern and Escher-like designs). At one point, I expected a midget and David Duchovny in a dress to emerge from smoke. It sort of suited the music and the mood. I like the surreal. And I associate Billy Corgan with surreal at times. It was a great concert. The only song I didn't enjoy was their cover of Kiss' "Black Diamond"

Better for fans of new material

by Anonymous on 2012-10-07Rexall Place - Edmonton

They played Oceania in its entirety before playing the oldies, and while they did play quite a few fan favourites, they did not play "1979" or "Today" among others.

    Worse show ever

by Meltaways on 2012-10-07Rexall Place - Edmonton

The music was horrible you couldnt hear the vocals over the music, they didn't play any of their good old songs. I took my son to see them as his first concert and he even said I could hear them singing and he didn't know any of the songs they played either. The only thing that we did like was the giant ball in the back ground that kept changing it's picture and color. I would never suggest to any of my friends to go see them live they don't know how to put on a show. We left 45 mintues early because it was that bad of a show

We got up and left.. We found it boring and wanting to fall asleep. They didn't keep the crowd going . I would never see them again or waste my money on it.

    Really?

by Oneofthefew on 2012-10-07Rexall Place - Edmonton

OK... Attended Smashing Pumpkins concert in Edmonton... I was always convinced the AB capital has an edge over the cowboys from Calgary. Totally wrong! In a hockey arena that filled maybe 25% of the capacity, it was the only rock concert I attended where people sat on their chairs all the time (except the mosh pit). And the mosh ones, when they were not getting pulled out by security every 5 minutes (?), they were throwing things on the stage to be cool. But did the band rock? Of course they did! Me, not really a fan of seeing SP live, I was easily won and never got pissed off when the band abandoned some of their major (previously played in other cities of the 2012 tour) songs, and cut their set short for what I believe was a pretty weak audience. Sad, because their rock is still one of the most intelligent one, but the cash ends up in the Nickelback accounts these days... Iti s all clear in my opinion: The world is a vampire! But it doesn`t go for humans blood, it is sucking the brains out!!! And never forget, the Bieber will rock your house in 10 days, start fainting NOW!

    So great!

by ptconnor on 2012-10-06Scotiabank Saddledome - Calgary

Was a bit concerned at the beginning when the Pumpkins hasn't talked to the audience by song 5 and then announced they were going to play their Oceania album. But once I heard the beginnings of Bowie's Space Oddity, I got pumped! They played the classics, interacted with the crowd and came to life! Put on a hell of a show and I was lucky enough to go home with a Zero pick! Unforgettable!

    Smashing pumpkins

by Nickynine on 2012-10-06Scotiabank Saddledome - Calgary

The smashing pumpkins have always been a fave band of mine. Their new stuff was ok, but their old songs they played were definitely great. Billy Corgan's voice was really good live. The sound at the Saddle Dome could have been way better.

    Still got it goin' on

by Thorazine on 2012-10-06Scotiabank Saddledome - Calgary

Wow...Still the world's best rock n roll band since U-2; (very genre-specific favs aside) Still the best new album of 2012! I hate to see Billy dissing both Eddie Vedder and Curling in the same show, but whatever, he's a rock star. To those who've been dumping on this tour without actually attending the show...stop taking up valuable internet space.

Billy didn't want to stop playing!

    by Deidra23 on 2012-10-06Scotiabank Saddledome - Calgary

This was a very confused show, first off, the opening act went on 45 minutes before the ticket said the show would start, which left them playing to a mostly empty space. There was a short intermission and then the pumpings played for almost 3 hours without a break! The first half of the show was the Ociana disc, then they got into some old classics. Still well worth the price, even if it was confused.

    Dull and boring

by fierc on 2012-10-06Scotiabank Saddledome - Calgary

Smart move on Corgan's behalf-playing all the new stuff first. Every song sounded the same-putting me in a nice state of boredom. Very disappointed in the show.

    Wonderful Experience

by Nizza on 2012-10-06Scotiabank Saddledome - Calgary

I really like SP's new album so I enjoyed every minute of the concert. The second part was a treat for everyone, even those who barely know SP as they played their greatest hits. The atmosphere was fantastic as Corgan is am AMAZING person!

A trip down Pumpkin memory lane!

by scaryp on 2012-10-06Scotiabank Saddledome - Calgary

They started off with their new CD, which is OK (sorry Billy) But it was great to hear their hits from the nineties, plus Bowie & KISS covers. Billy also seemed genuinely appreciative of the audience. The only song I wish they would've played and didn't was Rocket, next time! Billy still rocks and great new drummer!

    Show me the People

by Troutheasd on 2012-10-06Scotiabank Saddledome - Calgary

Smashing Pumpkins were fantastic, but there were only 4500 people at the show. The Saddledome is big place and I had expected it to be full. What happened? Whoever was there was treated to old and new over a two hour intense fun show.
