About

The Smashing Pumpkins are one of the most influential alt-rock bands of the ’90s. Billy Corgan formed the band in 1988 with guitarist James Iha. In the 1990s alone, the band released classic albums like the four-time platinum Siamese Dream (1993) — which was ranked by Rolling Stone as one of the greatest albums of all time — and the double album Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness (1995), which debuted at No.1 on Billboard 200 and produced hit singles like “1979” and “Tonight, Tonight.” The Smashing Pumpkins have toured with acts like the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Guns N’ Roses. They’ve made guest appearances on The Simpsons, won two GRAMMY Awards and have sold over 30 million albums.

Billy and the gang are still rocking

by Zanfib on 2012-10-06Scotiabank Saddledome - Calgary

It was unfortunate how few people were in the crowd, I think the venue was not suited to the crowd and a smaller more intimate setting would have been wonderful. Be warned the Pumpkins went on stage far earlier than I anticipated, maybe the opening act didn't show (a car accident meant we missed the first 3 songs :-( ). That said, the show was great, Billy's voice holds up very well and while the crowd was a little confused by the new album (this tour plays the entire new album followed by the "Hits"), I enjoy it and the first half of the show was very good. For most the real show started with the "Classics" portion of the evening, and the Smashing Pumpkin's didn't disappoint. All the greatest hits were played including a nice version of Ava Adore (harder and more guitar driven than the album). There were two encores (Billy quite clearly was waiting to see who would leave after the 1st encore). The 2nd encore had a fun cover of Kiss's "Black Diamond" complete with guitar duel between Billy Corgan and Jeff Schroder. A great show for new and long-time fans, I highly recommend it. The stage was minimal but entertaining enough and the music still holds up. Billy was also very appreciative, and thanked the crowd numerous times and expressed his gratitude for the crowd, no matter how small. He seemed genuinely happy to be on stage.

    They are back!

by cwgumby on 2012-10-06Scotiabank Saddledome - Calgary

They played their entire new album, then played some old school. Couldnt tell the difference. New album is as good if not better than their old school stuff. Go see this show! I screamed and fist pumped the entire time. Two days later I cant speak still.

One of the worst concerts I have ever been to. Playing the entire new album like it's darkside of the moon. Whatever.

The Smashing Pumpkins stirred up a lot of memories. I really enjoyed the album Siamese Dream back in the day. After getting the songs from the new album out of the way, which had quite a few great songs, they went to older stuff. One of the qualities I liked about the Pumpkins was an instant like to hearing new music from them. I got to hear Disarm and Cherub Rock from Siamese Dream which made the show worth it. Still would have loved to hear Mayonaise. Corgan's personality came out during the show. Which was expected. He got on the crowd for body surfing and referred to it as a Pearl Jam moment. He also didn't introduce his new bandmates which is not good form in my opinion. But I was there for the music, and that was all good.

    Lame!

Billy Corgans ego is still way bigger than his talent! Save your money.

    Good show!

    by Canadian365 on 2012-10-05MTS Centre - Winnipeg

Good show, nothing spectacular, but you were there for the music anyway. Not the most energized crowd. Corgan seemed to be distant with the crowd. He would get things going with a classic tune, then completely stop the momentum with a slow song. Approximately 3,500 in attendance. May have been better turn out if tickets were half the price!

Good show - lots of emphasis on new album

    by pegger55 on 2012-10-05MTS Centre - Winnipeg

Show was really good, Billy was in good form, sounded good, light show was great. I was hoping to hear some of the good old stuff a bit sooner, but the first hour and a bit of the show was the Oceana album. I guess I should have expected that, but I always enjoy it when bands realize that the reason we're coming out is for the stuff we love, not the new stuff we don't know.

This concert did not disappoint great mix of new and old stuff with a lot of energy. Opening band was annoying but when the pumpkins came on every song rocked. I enjoyed a lot of the new songs played. Great concert!
