THE WHITE BUFFALO IN CONCERT:
Americana mainstay The White Buffalo is a master storyteller who takes ticket buyers on a journey through the full gamut of emotions when he performs his timeless tunes in concert. The man behind the music is Jake Smith, a veteran performer with a raspy, bone-crushing voice that is the perfect sonic representation of the hard things he’s seen and experienced. Smith’s dark yet hopeful songs traverse love, loss, booze, and revenge, and his evocative lyrics give fans a little taste of life on the edge. The White Buffalo has been prominently featured on bad-boy shows like Sons of Anarchy and Californication, and Smith and his band bring a little bit of the rough-and-tumble lifestyle to the stage every time they tour. Whether they’re tearing through the rollicking “How the West Was Won” or breaking hearts with the soulful, restrained “Wish It Was True”, the band is sure to move fans on their 2015 Modern Times Tour presented by Ones to Watch.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
LA-based singer-songwriter Jake Smith grew up on a steady diet of punk rock but didn’t pick up his first guitar until age 19. During college he began writing and performing his own songs, eventually zeroing in on a soulful Americana sound that suited his rich, gravelly voice. He made his debut as The White Buffalo in 2002 with the album Hogtied Like a Rodeo, following up three years later with The White Buffalo EP. In 2008 he re-recorded his debut album in a friend’s living room and released it as Hogtied Revisited, attracting the attention of pro surfer Chris Malloy, who featured the song “Wrong” in his popular surf film Shelter. A flurry of attention followed, leading to high-profile placements on edgy shows like Sons of Anarchy and Californication. Following the release of acclaimed albums Once Upon a Time in the West (2012) and Shadows, Greys, and Evil Ways (2013), The White Buffalo garnered even more mainstream media attention with a performance on Jimmy Kimmel and the 10-part docuseries Ernie Ball presents Capturing the White Buffalo. With their fifth full-length album Love & the Death of Damnation generating buzz in 2015, the band has fans dying to catch the new material at one of their rowdy, emotionally dynamic performances.
