TOM PETTY AND THE HEARTBREAKERS IN CONCERT:
As pioneers of heartland rock in the late-'70s, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers championed a no-frills, guitar-driven sound that set them apart from the increasingly technology-oriented approach of much of the era's pop music. Today Tom Petty & Co. are as relatable as ever, treating fans to their classic songs about working class issues and everyday American life with a passion and flair that belie their years. Whether Petty is dancing across the stage with a pair of maracas or lending his iconic voice to hits like "American Girl" and "Mary Jane's Last Dance," he and the band never fail to electrify at their live shows, and their 2014 tour dates with special guest Steve Winwood will be no different.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
After playing in several other Gainesville, FL bands in the early-'70s, Tom Petty formed the Heartbreakers in 1976. The band's self-titled debut initially failed to gain traction in the US, but American audiences eventually caught wind of its popularity in the UK, leading to the 1978 re-release of early single "Breakdown" to a Top 40 spot. In 1979 the band scored their true US breakthrough with the hits "Refugee" and "Don't Do Me Like That," That", the latter becoming their first Top 10 hit. A series of successful albums followed in the '80s, earning the band an impressive string of hits as well as a supporting slot on Bob Dylan's '86/87 True Confessions world tour. Their chart run continued in the '90s with No. 1's like "Learning to Fly" and "You Don't Know How It Feels", which earned Petty a Grammy in 1996 for Best Rock Vocal Performance. Nearly four decades after their debut, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers will continue to treat fans to their exceptional live show on their latest tour.
FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:
"A great walk down memory lane. The Heartbreakers played like they were all still 30 years old. Tom Petty can really belt those songs out. Rock on!"
"The show was awesome. Tom Petty was amazing and the Heartbreakers rocked! I would love to see the whole show again!"
"The show was excellent with a great mix of old, new, and some obscure/rarely heard tracks. Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers never disappoint."
So great! All ages were rocking out. Great concert and Tom is still a great rocker.
Seeing Tom Petty has been on our bucket list for a very long time so we are happy we can finally cross that off! The band did not disappoint and exceeded our expectations!
Tom and the boys ( plus a couple of sisters) did excellent!
Very entertaining. Mike Campbell is a very under rated guitar player.Wish they played more older stuff but still great.Security staff were lile Nazis
Excellent time!! Would definitely try to see him again. Got a great shirt!!
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers delivered a great perfomance Not sure if it was just where I was sitting but the vocals and Mike Campbells guitar could have been a little louder
I'd rate Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers a 6 stars out of 5 if that was an option.
What an epic performance by one of the true great remaining rock and roll bands! Great energy from these world class musicians. We had such a wonderful evening that will leave a lasting memory.
I had never seen Tom Petty live before and did not appreciate the amazing talent that he and the heartbreakers possess!
This was a great rock'n'roll show. Tom Petty seemed genuinely happy to be there on stage and it showed in his performance. He was very humble throughout, thanking the crowd for their applause. He was fantastic, and the Heartbreakers were too! The only negative I have to say is the sound of the vocals. Whoever did the mixing did a poor job on the sound coming from the mics ... sounded muddy and fuzzy. The instruments were all clear.
Awesome Concert Love Tom Petty Love The Lumineers
We sat just above the floor to the side of the stage and the sound was incredible for both the opening act and Tom petty. Amazing night! However, my family was up high behind us in the upper seats and they said the sound was distorted. So pay the money and sit lower down!
My wife and I travelled for 8 hrs. for this one and it was not disappointing it was just incredible, in the words of Tom Petty "Thank-you so very much". We listened to the Tom Petty channel on Serius XM for the trip home and every time we heard a song that he played we could picture it in our minds what him and his band were doing. Unforgettable trip.
All music and song was in great harmony heard every word and the music was totally on the mark. Played together and solo I loved it .... Tom introduced the members and I will never forget this concert Lumineers were very professional together also so fun
After seeing Bob Dylan (who sucked), our hopes were not high... Tom was amazing, he seemed to really love being up there and we had a blast. I think 95% of the crowed stood for the entire show. The music was awesome. I would see him again in a heart beat.
you have got to see this show no comparison to recent previous tours simply incredible and was an actual experience that I will never forget.
Great music, great atmosphere. Everyone was standing, singing, and dancing.
Wow, wow, wow.... this concert was one of the best we've been to. Even before he started singing there was a standing ovation! Everyone pretty much sang along the entire night and just a totally feel good, heartwarming concert. This was how a concert should be. Was the best birthday ever!
I always liked Tom Petty as a song writer and musician. This was the first and last concert I will attend because the sound was schrill I know it needs to be loud but that extra envelope of high frequency distortion was very hard on my ears so I had to put in ear plugs. Tom is not a very good entertainer and the stage effects were pathetic so the overall experience was negative for me. Don't get me started on the warm up band
I got tickets for my sister and her boyfriend as well as my husband and myself. Needed to share the experience! Such an amazing performer and a kind and gentle spirit.
