TOM PETTY AND THE HEARTBREAKERS IN CONCERT:
As pioneers of heartland rock in the late-'70s, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers championed a no-frills, guitar-driven sound that set them apart from the increasingly technology-oriented approach of much of the era's pop music. Today Tom Petty & Co. are as relatable as ever, treating fans to their classic songs about working class issues and everyday American life with a passion and flair that belie their years. Whether Petty is dancing across the stage with a pair of maracas or lending his iconic voice to hits like "American Girl" and "Mary Jane's Last Dance," he and the band never fail to electrify at their live shows, and their 2014 tour dates with special guest Steve Winwood will be no different.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
After playing in several other Gainesville, FL bands in the early-'70s, Tom Petty formed the Heartbreakers in 1976. The band's self-titled debut initially failed to gain traction in the US, but American audiences eventually caught wind of its popularity in the UK, leading to the 1978 re-release of early single "Breakdown" to a Top 40 spot. In 1979 the band scored their true US breakthrough with the hits "Refugee" and "Don't Do Me Like That," That", the latter becoming their first Top 10 hit. A series of successful albums followed in the '80s, earning the band an impressive string of hits as well as a supporting slot on Bob Dylan's '86/87 True Confessions world tour. Their chart run continued in the '90s with No. 1's like "Learning to Fly" and "You Don't Know How It Feels", which earned Petty a Grammy in 1996 for Best Rock Vocal Performance. Nearly four decades after their debut, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers will continue to treat fans to their exceptional live show on their latest tour.

Rating: 5 out of 5 Tom Petty rocks the ACC
by BroncoBill on 2017-07-18Air Canada Centre - TorontoTom Petty and the Heartbreakers once again rocked Toronto. At 66 years of age he can still get it done. 18 classic songs from his 40 year history were played during the show. Mike Campbell was amazing on guitars as per normal.

Rating: 5 out of 5 Tom Petty: Unforgettable and Down to Earth
by MikeVernon97 on 2016-04-26Rogers Arena - VancouverTom Petty and his longtime band, the Heartbreakers, blew me away. They played top notch and Petty's voice hasn't lost one bit of its resonance, emotion, or soul. He is a class act, humble, down to earth, and really seemed like he wanted to be there, singing these amazing songs. And man has he written a wealth of songs. Every single song he does is fantastic. He even did a couple from his new album, Hypnotic Eye, which was great! My only wish was that he would do more songs! But the concert was over 2 hours long and well worth it. It is an unforgettable experience seeing Tom Petty. I highly recommend it. Probably the best concert I've ever been to.

Rating: 3 out of 5 Tom Petty's Greatest Hits & more
by Murlo on 2014-09-09Rogers Arena - VancouverExcept for really bad mixing - vocals utterly disappointingly overpowered by guitars and drums - the concert was one my family and I enjoyed experiencing. There is absolutely no excuse for the unbalanced mess we heard - dialed down a good bit, the band would be still be strong enough while allowing the audience to enjoy the vocals. If that's typical mixing at Rogers Arena concerts we will not attend another. When the Rolling Stones played BC Place in 2006 we had seats on the floor as well & though loud, there was no problem hearing the vocals with clarity unlike this concert.

by Mohawk on 2014-09-08Air Canada Centre - TorontoI have seen Tom Petty 7 times over past 30 years and he never lets you down! Every single song is great! I received a copy of his new CD Hypnotic eye and loved the 4 songs he played from that especially You Get Me High! His band is great!

Rating: 5 out of 5 best concert I've ever seen
by furn on 2014-09-04Rogers Arena - VancouverTom Petty is on of the greatest unsung rock hero in North America. Every song the played is a hit, well performed, surprising, entertaining. His interaction with the crowd is great. Stage presence is really there. I am not a big fan of Steve Winwood but I respect his msic. The sound balance wasn't great for his part I have to say. He delivered in an established way as you would expect from someone who has been in the business for so long. Of all the concerts I have seen in my life, this is the best by far, top three.
Rating: 4 out of 5 Stevie Winwood was great as usual!
by TipsfromTerri on 2014-09-04Air Canada Centre - TorontoWe have seen Stevie Winwood several times, including the last time he opened for Tom Petty. He is always excellent and polished. Tom Petty was good, but not as good as the last time. The sound quality, especially the vocals, was not clear and crisp as it was at the last concert.
