About

TOM PETTY AND THE HEARTBREAKERS IN CONCERT:

As pioneers of heartland rock in the late-'70s, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers championed a no-frills, guitar-driven sound that set them apart from the increasingly technology-oriented approach of much of the era's pop music. Today Tom Petty & Co. are as relatable as ever, treating fans to their classic songs about working class issues and everyday American life with a passion and flair that belie their years. Whether Petty is dancing across the stage with a pair of maracas or lending his iconic voice to hits like "American Girl" and "Mary Jane's Last Dance," he and the band never fail to electrify at their live shows, and their 2014 tour dates with special guest Steve Winwood will be no different.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

After playing in several other Gainesville, FL bands in the early-'70s, Tom Petty formed the Heartbreakers in 1976. The band's self-titled debut initially failed to gain traction in the US, but American audiences eventually caught wind of its popularity in the UK, leading to the 1978 re-release of early single "Breakdown" to a Top 40 spot. In 1979 the band scored their true US breakthrough with the hits "Refugee" and "Don't Do Me Like That," That", the latter becoming their first Top 10 hit. A series of successful albums followed in the '80s, earning the band an impressive string of hits as well as a supporting slot on Bob Dylan's '86/87 True Confessions world tour. Their chart run continued in the '90s with No. 1's like "Learning to Fly" and "You Don't Know How It Feels", which earned Petty a Grammy in 1996 for Best Rock Vocal Performance. Nearly four decades after their debut, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers will continue to treat fans to their exceptional live show on their latest tour.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"A great walk down memory lane. The Heartbreakers played like they were all still 30 years old. Tom Petty can really belt those songs out. Rock on!"

"The show was awesome. Tom Petty was amazing and the Heartbreakers rocked! I would love to see the whole show again!"

"The show was excellent with a great mix of old, new, and some obscure/rarely heard tracks. Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers never disappoint."

    Disappointed

by Nicky53 on 2014-08-31Air Canada Centre - Toronto

His music was awesome, our seats awesome, but he was so stoned it looked like he had a hard time focusing on the crowd and at times he lost his balance while switching guitars. Really, 63 years old and stoned come on.... I paid a lot of money for my tickets and was disappointed in Tom Petty. The Heartbreakers were fantastic and it looked like from where we were sitting Section C, Row 4 that they were keeping an eye on Tom and his performance.

by Ricki on 2014-08-31Air Canada Centre - Toronto

We went to see 'genuine rock n roll'! at The Air Canada Centre last night! Steve Winwood delivered an incredible performance of his music contributions! (50 years of recordings!) from: Spencer Davis, Blind Faith, Traffic, Solo career! Timeless treasures! Then came the one and only HEARTBREAKERS led by the ever-entertaining Tom Petty! So..... they open with this Byrds classic! "So You Want To Be A Rock'N'Roll Star" So you want to be a rock'n'roll star Then listen now to what I say Just get an electric guitar And take some time and learn how to play And when your hair's combed right and your pants fit tight It's gonna be all right............................................................ Too funny - What a show they put on - encore included the Monkees 'Not your Steppin' Stone' Almost 3 decades of 'Petty' massive hits - all rolled into last night! Rock and Roll lives on! lol

    Two rock legends

by VRock on 2014-08-29Air Canada Centre - Toronto

Both Steve and Tom proved that their status as rock legends has been well earned. Winwood demonstrated the incredible depth of his catalogue and the musical versatility that has been his musical trademark for decades. His vocals remain as thrilling as they were 30 years ago. Tom, and one of the tightest bands never fail to bring the house down. Mike Campbell is one of the best rock guitarists ever and he and Tom mesh perfectly.
