About

Tool have defied conventions and classification through their 30-plus-year exploration of progressive rock and unorthodox visual expression at live shows. Forming in Los Angeles in 1990, the original quartet of Maynard James Keenan, Adam Jones, Danny Carey and Paul D'Amour showed relatively straightforward traces of heavy metal on initial offerings like 1992’s Opiate EP and their 1993 debut album Undertow. After recruiting bassist Justin Chancellor, the band reached major mainstream success with their sophomore album Ænima (1996), which debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and netted the band’s first Grammy for Best Metal Performance for the title track. Tool’s notoriety only rose as the band pushed further into more esoteric material with 2001’s Lateralus, which kicked off a streak of three No. 1 debuts on the Billboard 200 through 2019’s Fear Inoculum. Within that span, Tool has also logged two Hot 100 singles, two additional Grammy awards and several multi-year headlining festival spots at Coachella, Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo and more.

    TOOL has just okay

by JeweLee on 2009-08-06Molson Amphitheatre - Toronto

I was so stoked when I got the tickets to see them, everyone I know said they was amazing live! However I found last nights show merely above average. Maynard's voice was awesome, but b/c we were in the 400s we couldn't see anything on stage and the screeens showed nothing but the band's art and images from the videos..and the instrumentals were WAAAAAY too long...so they performed 9 song in 100 minutes! the light show was ok but overall for the amount of money they cost....Disappointing.....

    Tool a wild ride

by Tuna on 2009-08-06Molson Amphitheatre - Toronto

Like I imagined a high energy music perfomance but the band members low key. They love to stay in obscurity so if you want to see them up close get a front row seat. Big screens for the art and video images no close up shots of the band.

Tool, as always, rocked the house!

by trashitgirl on 2009-08-06Molson Amphitheatre - Toronto

The show was awesome! The visual aspect of it was phenomenal! The visual effects flowed with the music..... the laser show was perfect! As a part of the audience, you could feel the bass, which just made it all the much better! My husband said that the tickets were the best birthday present ever...

    Tool was amazing!

by Momar on 2009-08-06Molson Amphitheatre - Toronto

This was my first time seeing Tool but there was no doubt in my mind that they would be just as good live (dare I say better?) as they are on their recordings. I was kept in awe the entire time. Beer was a bit expensive at the event running $10 a tall can* and parking was extremely frustrating. So if I have to recommend anything it would be if you're going to drink do it before hand and take public transit. Overall: fantastic show! *Makes sense. Why not make a butt load of money AND deter people from drinking and driving?

    Tool Rocked

by steveonomad on 2009-08-06Molson Amphitheatre - Toronto

The guy in the band said two things. At the start of the show he said "wow that's a lot of Canadians there" to the 16000. Then at the end of the show he said "thanks for comming out" It was a no BS smackdown of solid, tight, not too loud, walls of sound and light. The laser show was ok, and the images on the monitor were dialed. The show was fantastic, I had a great time.

    Epic.

by jimmie on 2009-08-06Molson Amphitheatre - Toronto

Seeing Tool live never gets old. Despite rocking an almost identical setlist to the 10K Days tour, the show was still fresh, loud, tight, and of course EPIC. As always Tool's live show de-emphasizes the artists themselves and puts the focus squarely on the music. The visuals (lights, images, etc) are the perfect compliment to the thunderous music coming from the PA (kudos to Junior and the rest of the tech crew for putting on such a show). I have seen Tool in several different venues but have to admit the open air ampitheatre-type venues are the best. With all the different dynamics of the music, things often get muddled in an arena. But not last night. Perfect clarity in everything from MJK's voice down to DC's gong smash in lateralus. Can't wait to see them again.

    Can't go wrong with Tool

    by Q1000 on 2009-08-06Molson Amphitheatre - Toronto

Good show all around, opening act pretty good. Played good verity of hits. I liked the drum-off part with that local guy Chris. Only bad thing I can say is that the sound quality at the Ampitheater isn't that great, and the morons that feel it necessary to smoke in there seats for the entire show.

    Tool Was Amazing!

by Wends on 2009-08-06Molson Amphitheatre - Toronto

This concert was sooo good. They put on an awesome show. The lights and videos that were playing made the show that much better. Everything was well put together and the band was amazing!!

Just amazing.............no words can explain it

by angjus on 2009-08-06Molson Amphitheatre - Toronto

Tool took as to a different dimension with their music and multimedia. Absolutely amazing, something that you have to experience for yourself, something that can not be expressed by words.

Great show again! Had to wait a while in between opening act and Tool, but once they took the stage the wait was well worth it!

by faithofamartyr on 2009-08-06Molson Amphitheatre - Toronto

Great band live. The Light show was spectacular!!! I would recommend watching them on the floor of @ the 100 level at a show. I was sitting in the 400 level and was pretty far up.

    TOOL attacks Ontario

    by section13 on 2009-08-06Molson Amphitheatre - Toronto

To begin with, not only did I see TOOL in Toronto , but the previous night in Kingston, Ontario. What a difference a venue makes. Both shows were well done: musically, artistically and audibly. Toronto show was the same set list as most of the previous shows on this tour. Many long drawn out noise sessions with feedback and lights mesmerizing the audience into a dream state while preparing them for a bombastic attack of TOOL flavored energy and artistic specialization. TWEAK BIRD opened up and to my surprise, the comments from others was poor. Give them a chance and listen. Fresh new band touring with TOOL? There must be some merit there.

    TOOL GOOD, VENUE BAD

by FODLOL on 2009-08-06Molson Amphitheatre - Toronto

Not the best TOOL show ever, but still better than most bands on their best night. Molson Amphitheatre blows unless you're on the floor. I haven't sat in the grass for a few years and now I remember why.

    Tool - Amazing as always

    by Spazcorn182 on 2009-08-06Molson Amphitheatre - Toronto

Tool always puts on a good show, with their awesome effects such as laser shows and the videos that play along to each song. There is also a lot of amazing guitar and drum solo's and Maynards always entertaining performance.

    Awesome, but poor vocals

by LTL17 on 2009-07-30EnergySolutions Arena - Salt Lake City

Awesome show, got tickets late so we sat on the balcony. Biggest problem was that the vocals were poorly amplified and was nearly impossible to make out what he was saying/singing! The bass overpowered everything so much...
