Toronto FC History

Toronto FC played their first season in 2007 and became a perennial MLS Cup playoff contender after adding Italian soccer star Sebastian Giovinco in 2015. In his first year with the team, Giovinco became the first Toronto FC player to win MLS' Golden Boot, MVP and Newcomer of the Year awards, en route to the team's first-ever playoff berth. The team reached further success the following year by reaching the MLS Cup Final, then won the championship in 2017. That victory, coupled with their winning of the Canadian Championship and Supporters' Shield matches earlier in the year, made Toronto FC the first team in Major League Soccer history to complete the rare feat known as the domestic treble.

Toronto FC have been most dominant in the annual Canadian Championship, in which the club has taken home the Voyageurs Cup eight times, including in 2020. Individual player accolades include Rookie of the Year for midfielder Maurice Edu in 2007 and Most Valuable Player for attacking midfielder Alejandro Pozuelo in 2020.

Toronto FC at BMO Field

Toronto FC is the city's first Major League Soccer team and the first Canadian team in the league. When BMO Field, the team's home stadium, opened in 2007, it was already the largest soccer-specific stadium in Canada. The venue has since expanded to accommodate over 30,000 fans. The Eastern Conference team's most vocal and visible supporters club, the Red Patch Boys, started rallying online back in 2006 before the team had even played its first match.

  • concessions

Concession lines were too long and slow. need to find a way to get the $$ out of people pockets faster that way they spend more $$ on food and drinks… like beer. Maybe someone walking around like at baseball games… get your cold beer here!!!

  • Overall a great experience!!!

by Lyssy on 2022-04-19BMO Field - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Easy entry to stadium, easy access to food and drinks, reasonably prices for such an event, washroom access easy, great atmosphere, fun and a win for TFC!! Will come back!

  • Why have a bag check policy?

    by Christin B. on 2021-11-12BMO Field - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

Great experience at BMO for the TFC Match. Fairly efficient with them checking for vaccinations/proof of ID (and they did check every single person). Somewhat annoyed with the bag policy though. I understand having the policy in place (although it's VERY restrictive), however, despite the pre-game email from TFC saying those who did not follow the policy would not be admitted to BMO, the signs everywhere outside and inside the gates, and the pre-game announcement saying "Absolutely No Bags", I watched guest after guest walk in with all different types of bags/purses/backpacks that didn't come anywhere close to meeting the requirements laid out in the bag policy. So didn't I feel like a moron for scrambling to find a teeny tiny bag that didn't allow me to bring anything to make my experience at BMO and my trip to Toronto more safe/comfortable. I guess rule followers, much like nice guys, really do finish last.

  • TFC Rocks

by Arfan on 2021-11-10BMO Field - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

In fact it was my first time to go to TFC game, Loved it. The section 114 was amazing and full of live fan there. I do recommend this section and we agreed that we will re attend next season min 3 times. Toronto and the game vibe. Love it and do recommend it… hey keep price low this way Torontonians can afford attending…

  • Very fun experience

by Michel on 2021-11-10BMO Field - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

The environment at the BMO Field is quite nice; it is beautiful on sunny days. The seats I got from sector 221 were perfect to watch the 2 halves of the game.

  • Amazing Atmosphere!

by Daryn on 2021-11-10BMO Field - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

The Toronto FC game was one of the highlights of our mini moon. It was an amazing atmosphere as we almost spent more time watching the supporters section than we did the game though that was amazing to watch as well! Would recommend for everyone!

  • Great Experience

by DD on 2021-10-26BMO Field - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

Easy access to the area and no delays when providing proof of vaccination. It took us a little longer to find our seats as the wrong directions were provided by the fisrt person we approach but we arrived with enought time so did not miss the kick-off.

  • Poor experience!

by Had better! on 2021-10-20BMO Field - TorontoRating: 2 out of 5

I was out for the day so never checked emails. As we entered nobody knew why our tickets wouldn’t scan! We were sent up flights of stairs and backdown, up an elevator and back down! Nobody knew to tell us level 2 was closed! That’s when I realized I had been sent new tickets. Had to do 2 flights of stairs for popcorn! No vendors open on our floor! Very disorganized! We have attended many TFC matches at BMO, all have been great, this was not a good experience !

  • Great time at the BMO

    by G on 2021-10-06BMO Field - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

I had a good experience at the game aftwr soooo long not being able to attend a live event. The only donwside was that Iwas not allowed to enter the stadium with my water in bottle and had to throw it out.

  • Bag policy is ridiculous ...

by NK on 2021-10-03BMO Field - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

The game was good and entering the venue with the covid protocols was quick and easy. However the bag policy at BMO field is ridiculous! It's unreasonable to expect people, especially women to be able to fit their personal belongings in a plastic clear bag for everybody to see (referring to feminine products) or in a tiny purse. They allow fanny packs but give no measurements. My fanny pack is small but bigger than the measurements of the purse that they provide so not sure how that even makes sense. And if you're coming from work and have your office stuff to bring back home after the game, what are you supposed to do? I wasn't trying to lose a bag so unfortunately did not bring one with me. My phone kept falling out of my pocket but luckily my credit card did not, I guess that was the bright side?

  • TFC

by Giggles on 2021-09-21BMO Field - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

Had a great experience at the game! However, concerned that they didn't ask us for our vaccine confirmation even though their website states it mandatory so not sure if there were any that snuck in.

Great entertainment. Great atmosphere phenomenal fans cheering section great to see that regardless of the standings

  • Tough on the Loyal Follower

    by Jim V on 2021-09-17BMO Field - TorontoRating: 2 out of 5

Terrible display of refereeing first of all. Goal was waived off. Unfair play. Deplorable decision making knowing VAR was available. TFC Team displayed lack of depth at the striker and defending position. Home side team played entertaining soccer. Will never give up watching and supporting TFC.

  • Great to be back

    by Eddie T. on 2021-08-17BMO Field - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

The event was great with decent cleaning protocols in place. Would have liked more sanitization stations and an easier way to order food and drinks to avoid long lines. Maybe a way to order on your phone via a app ??? Overall just as good as when I was there pre-pandemic
