A delightful fun evening. A marvelous cast, really putting their all into it, and with a pair of leads in Hanna & Danilo who have a wonderful chemistry and can vocalise with the best of them. Hats off to Guillermo Silva-Marin who always finds a way to mount a sparkling production.
Evidently they put all their efforts into getting some good singers. The set (singular) was perfunctory.
I enjoyed the performances of the individual actors as they were top notch in their field. The one downside was the lack of props. In my opinion it drew away the professionalism of the cast.A nice scene of the ocean would have helped.
The Toronto Operetta company production of Pirates of Penzance was energetically performed, thoroughly enjoyable and true to the Gilbert and Sullivan tradition. Can't wait to see another G and S on their schedule we will attend for sure!
The show is lovely—G and S silliness, and badly needed in this world! The singing is lovely—especially the show stopping coloratura soprano lead! However the movement on stage is frequently awkward and could use some crisp choreography and dance lessons. And—please could the charming chorus of ladies have pretty long white skirts instead of blue jeans??
I’m a life long fan of the Gilbert and Sullivan operettas. And Toronto Operetta’s Pirates of Penzance was first rate. The soloists’ voices were excellent and well suited to their roles. The acting was even and good. The orchestra was first rate (I especially enjoyed the flautist). The set worked well I can’t find a single negative thing to say about the performance I saw. Thank you for such a delightful evening!
It was a wonderful lively performance. It was a nice touch too alter the lyrics of the modern major general include something about local politics. The orchestra was tight and played a small part in the show.
By far the best presentation of "Pirates"I have ever seen (and I've played Mabel myself, twice!). The acting and singing were both strong and well executed. My 3 guests were blown away and will not hesitate to accept the next request to accompany. Well done all! Carol J
We plan to attend more at this theatre. Sightlines are good. Production value is great Seats are a little small.
