Not much circus in this circus

by Barbarator on 2016-01-11Air Canada Centre - Toronto

I loved all CTS shows until this one.. which is all about the stage design and moving projections but not much circus performance at all.

Not a typical Cirque Du Soleil event

by Paul1234 on 2016-01-11Air Canada Centre - Toronto

Any event with the Cirque Du Soleil name associated with it brings expectations of performances full of trampolines, acrobatics, stunts, comedy, incredible sets and fantastic music. Had this performance been performed by any group other than Cirque, I would have given it a 4/5, but by Cirque standards it just didn’t cut it in my book. Some specific points for my rational: - The set was not inspired and much of it was not even used through the performance, - The set changes seemed awkward and forced and not executed well. (at one point the actors where carrying long “spears” from the performance and were dropping them on the ground as they tried to carry them.) During the intermission they executed some set changes, but they were really just adding some props. - There was very few acrobatics/stunts – typically a single individual at a time doing a couple of summersaults or some larger “dance-like” items. The aerial and ground work that they did do was not well executed with multiple people out of sync through the entire activity. Most of the items seemed more like a dance number than traditional Cirque performances and were what I’d expect from a dance team rather than Cirque. Normally I marvel at the skills of the performers as they flawlessly execute the activities, but in this case, there was almost no activities that I couldn’t see myself executing with a bit of practice. Quite a few bad mistakes as well – especially in the Kite number where the actors got tangled in the kites several times while jumping through them. - The entire performance was short. 2 hours start to end with a 20 minute intermission, so really was only 1:40 minutes long. - Only the last number was sung live. Not everything was negative though… The performance definitely had a “Cirque” feel to it with the expansive set, great costumes and something happening all over the stage so you always feel like you are missing some action. The story and visuals were also very true to the Avatar Movie. As I said at the beginning. A 4/5 if it had been anyone other than Cirque, but 2/5 by Cirque standards. Paul

    Where's the acrobatics?!?

by Ginnydog on 2016-01-11Air Canada Centre - Toronto

The special effects were super-impressive, as were the sets and costumes. However, the storyline took prominence, at the expense of acrobatics and tricks. Really not the show I expected from Cirque du Soleil.

Toruk is an amazing light show, but no cirques

by NataliaK on 2016-01-11Air Canada Centre - Toronto

Light show was amazing, but there was no cirques as there wasn't any acrobatics. This was our first Cirque du Soleil experience and it was such a disappointment that performers just walked around. There was no acrobatics, no wow factor. Honestly, we watched more difficult acrobatics and on the ropes performers at the all inclusive resort entertainment. Don't go.

    Not a true Cirque

by Phil955 on 2016-01-11Air Canada Centre - Toronto

Very disappointed. The show focused more on visual effects rather than the acrobatics that make it a Cirque du Soleil show.

    Toruk - Stage work amazing

by TomA on 2016-01-11Air Canada Centre - Toronto

Overall experience was very good. The light effects and stage effects was simply amazing. The show in itself was not your typical Circus Du Soleil - if your expecting a lot of tumbling, acrobatics and juggling acts then you would be greatly disappointed, however this was more of a story telling. This show was amazing and would strongly recommend going but keep an open mind for a different kind of show.

Does the old Cirque du Solei exist anymore?

by AaronJK on 2016-01-11Air Canada Centre - Toronto

Disclaimer: I went in with high expectations, because well, Cirque du Solei used to set the bar pretty high. I cannot imagine any fan of previous Cirque's will enjoy Toruk. Having seen a number of shows under the Grand Chapiteau (Alegria, Kooza, Quidam, Amaluna, Kurios) with Toruk being my first Arena show, I now know never to book an arena show again. At Toruk expect: - Everyone to be on their phones filming and taking photos the whole time. Where this used to be a very shunned practice that could get a guest kicked out, it is now actually encouraged with guests being asked to tag their photos with hashtags on social media. Personally I find it incredibly distracting when two or three people infront of you have their phones out the entire show. At Toruk don't expect: - Beautiful live music which is a staple of all the shows under the Grand Chapiteau - Gymnist's that leave you breathless or amazed as is the case in every other Cirque show Toruk to me was more theater than whatever you would classify the Cirque shows of old. As a major fan of the old shows, I can only hope that it was naive of me to think that a show in Rogers Arena could live up to one in the Grand Chapiteau. I hope the old Cirque does still exist in all its glory and the magic that was once has not been crushed by the profit incentive of its new private equity owners.

Not the best I have seen, but as always interrstin

by Spedowski on 2016-01-11Air Canada Centre - Toronto

Any seat is good! We had most expensive tickets, but it was waist is money as any seat was just amazing. The show was spectacular. Costumes were as always amazing. I found that it had too much jumping and just running around not enough acrobatics. Special effects were also amazing. Would totally recommend it to anyone, but don't over pay for tickets.

terrible, cirque de Soleil with no acrobats?

by Karbr on 2016-01-11Air Canada Centre - Toronto

Sorry but this is the second time going to a Cirque de Soleil show and disappointed with the lack of acrobatics. We expect to see what Cirque de Soleil has a reputation for. Done with disappointment, not paying that kind of money again. Not to mention the $5.25 bottle of water.

    Amazing

by hockeyNana on 2016-01-11Air Canada Centre - Toronto

Saw the new Cirque show at Air Canacd Center. It was breathtaking. Heard some who were disappointed for lack of acrobatics but the blend of music and movement was spectacular. A must see.

    Unique Show

by Fidcas on 2016-01-11Air Canada Centre - Toronto

This show wasn't like any Cirque show that I've been to. It had more of a story and a narrator and there wasn't the mini-acts the same way there is during a regular Cirque show. Some may find this unappealing, but it was so worth it to see the even itself. The stage production and effects were completely out of this world. Seeing the same stage take on the different landscapes that were required for the show was just terrific. I really like the performance itself and the music. I would go again.

    Unusual Cirque Event

by CATdaisy on 2016-01-11Air Canada Centre - Toronto

For those expecting the usual high altitude acrobatics, be prepared to be disappointed, but for those expecting the new, the bold, the high tech performances Cirque is known for, prepare to be blown away. The set for this production is amazing, the lighting in particular, all we could do all night was say "wow" and "wow" again. The colours, the singing of the shaman, all wonderful.

    Toruk exciting and beautiful

by Barkr on 2016-01-11Air Canada Centre - Toronto

Absolutely amazing from start to finish the troupee and story drew you into thier world. Stunning costumes, props, projection, and set design paired with superb athletes ......an unforgettable experience. Only spoiler were the late comers interrupting the show ( after five minutes late should not have been allowed in until intermission ).

    Never disappoints ☺

by Lovelei on 2016-01-11Air Canada Centre - Toronto

A different kind of Cirque since it's more of a play than the usual acrobatics but still the same awesome experience. So glad me and my family watched. Love it! Thanks and kudos to the talents and crew for making an unforgettable show!!!

An amazing show that brings Pandora to life!!

by Anonymous on 2016-01-11Air Canada Centre - Toronto

This was not like other cirques I've been too, the show was not all about the acrobatics/amazing physical feats. It was a SHOW. An absolutely incredible show. The makeup and set were phenomenal. It really felt like you were in Pandora. The characters were so life like and the set was blind-blowing. Everything that was featured in the movie was brought to life in the show, it felt real, like the world existed in front of you. Much better than some of the other "stories" cirque has portrayed through acrobatics.

This was my first time seeing Corque du Soleil and it was such an amazing show! I would definitely recommend seeing it. I'm definitely going to attend more Cirque du Soleil shows in the future.
