Experience in the stadium was nice as far as the overall view and atmosphere was concerned. It was nice to see fans from all over the CFL come together. The screen at the south end was difficult to rely on from my vantage point so I relied mainly on the scoreboard on the north end for updates on the down and yards remaining but it did not seem to get updated as quickly as I would have liked. Sometimes it seemed to be a down or two behind (punter already has the ball in his hand and the it board said it was 2nd and whatever yards remaining for example). At times the sound was distorted and difficult to understand. Anyway, this is not a CFL stadium so I understand a lot of this.
Things that could be planned out a little It was a very hot day and we didn't see the beverage person in the stadium until late in the 2nd quarter. I don't know if there was a hotdog person or not, but I did not see one. During the tailgate (parking lot along with porta potties and food trucks) the beverage lines were an easy 20-30 minute wait as with the wait times for beverages directly outside of the stadium. There were no porta potties for the general seating outside of the stadium so the majority of the attendants were forced to go back out to the parking lot to use the ones there which means this was a time consuming task even if you were willing to missing live game time to use the facilities during non-peak hours. We left the stadium with a few minutes left in the second quarter use the amenities and fuel up on drinks and food but while we managed to get through the porta potty line quickly, we were stuck in the food line (the parking lot was filled with local food trucks which is awesome) for long enough to hear the half time coming to an end and barely moved 10 feet. Willing to forgo food for a bit we trekked back into the stadium area (3-4 min walk max during non peak, closer to 5-8 min when it is busy and congested) and found the beverage line was backed up even farther than it was prior to game (20-25mins) so it was sure to take even longer. Between the heat (uncontrollable), the logistics and wait times we gave up and joined the others at the parking lot entrance waiting to find Uber/Taxi rides to find a local pub to watch the remainder of the 2nd half. While we only stayed for half the game, it was still two quarters longer than we made it last year when we left after the game started because we were unable to see the game at all except for when the ball was up in the air.
I also wish that the info for the game and the events leading up to it were better communicated in the days leading up to it. I found that I had rely mostly on multiple social media accounts to get the most of my experience rather than the official TD Atlantic page.
Also, while I support local, I wish there was at least on Molson beer product being offered at the tailgate and game to go alongside the local option.
While we will definitely hit up Halifax again and highly recommend it to others, I am not sure I will be in a rush to get back to another TD Atlantic.
