The band was awesome as always and the Commodore is a spectacular venue to party down!
I have seen Trooper 3 times and they always put on an enjoyable concert. They have a lot of fans. Great night of singing and dancing!!
The doors opened at 8 pm. The dj was fantastic and got people dancing right away. However we didn't pay 50$ to hear canned music. The first band was connor mcguire and his band. He is Ra ( from Troopers ) son. They played all their own music which was loud headbanger stuff. They played for an hour. Then we listened to more DJ music and at 10:30 Shaun Verreault came on. He was very good and played for 45 mins. 3 People that were sitting near us left at 11pm. They complained that the drinks were too expensive and they paid to see Trooper. AT 11:10 pm Trooper finally started playing. They played some of their favorites and were fantastic. However they only did one set and left at 12 ish. This was very disappointing. We have seen Trooper at the commodore years ago and they played for 3 hours. Very disappointing and expensive evening.
Well I must say that Trooper can still PARTY!! I was amazed at the energy level of the band, and this concert confirmed once again, that this is the type of venue Trooper was built to play...I have seen Trooper probably well over 100 times over the years, and rarely come away dissapointed....It was a cool sight to see Connor on Stage with Dad, and the thrill in the kids eyes, and pride in Dads....Too cool 10/10 for entertainment!!
opening band was bad. sean was good. trooper was good but too much wanking. left early.the band was tight, all sounded awesome, except they never seemed to get on with it. like watching them rehearse. payed $35 for that??
Trooper was on top of their game but didn't make it to the stage until about 11:30 and then let the audience sing too much. Two very bad opening acts left a bad taste in my mouth. Won't see them there again.
We were so disappointed that Trooper didn't come on stage until 11:30. With doors opening at 8, we were expecting them on around 10. But to have two other bands before was a bit much. Although Trooper was good once they started playing and we enjoyed it, it was too long coming. The table beside us left before they came on (they gave up waiting).
Awful opening acts. Brutal first band. Then some guy from Wide Mouth Mason tries to fire up a 40+ crowd with a collection of his greatest (unknown) hits. Left before midnight, and never saw Trooper.
Saw Trooper in Winnipeg the other night. They rocked. Lots of fun to watch and the music was wonderful. Vocalist has amazing range. Accoustic guitarist - very accomplished and fun. Keyboards were great and the guy has a lot of flare. Drummer is right on - couldn't see much of him behind the plexiglass. Base guitarist - accomplished and hot. Lights and sound were great and perfect for the room. The only thing that Trooper does that could be changed, is to give the audience a second or two between songs to let them know how much they liked the one they just finished ;-) Trooper goes non-stop until breaktime.
The show was excellent, for a bunch of older guys they sure can rock. The venue was very well laid out and the sound was fantastic. The nice part is that at the end of the show they stayed for autographs until everyone had gone through. They give meaning to a great group that loves their fans
I saw Trooper as a teen and then about 3 years back and now again 30 years after the 1st time. They still rock, they still got it and I will go again and again.
Despite starting off with many, many technical problems, the band recovered, and through a mix of personality, great music, and sheer rock, got the show going. The crowd was older, and it took a while to get them up and moving, but move they did by the end of the show. The music was great, and I particularly liked that as an impromptu encore, the band sang We're Here for a Good Time (Not a Long Time) again, having recognized that when they opened the show with the number, technical problems so overshadowed the music that the crowd deserved to hear it again. I do want to add that the band was very personable and chatty after the show, in the merchandise/autograph table. Unlike many bands who rush the crowd through, and are obviously frustrated with the time fans use to take photos, Trooper was the opposite. In this, I particularly want to mention guitarist Brian Smith, who was exceptionally great in person, not only writing 'for soandso' with his autograph, asking for names to personalize his message, but chatting a lot with each fan. When photographs were asked for, he got up, put his arm around the person, and seemed to truly enjoy the experience of meeting his fans.
Always enjoy RA and the boys! They always get the party crowd going. Everyone was singing along and clapping to eveyone of the old favorites! The boys obviously still enjoy entertaining and playing for the crowd! That is why they are Canadas number one party band.
What can I say? They've still got it after all these years. Ra's voice is still great and the band is terrific. The first concert I ever went to nearly 30 years ago was Trooper and Friday night they proved to me that they've still got it. It's so great to see them on tour again and even doing new material.
Trooper with lead singer Ra McGuire rocked the Winnipeg Casino Friday nite. The 5 member band proved one again that they are Canada's favourite rock party band. After the show they were out to sign autograph copies of Hot Shots and other Trooper treasured albums & memorabilia.
Amazing performance, unbelievable voice, excellent venue, priced reasonable. Overall 5 star show, I would love to see them perform again.
JUST WHAT WE EXPECTED WITH SOME EXTRA THROWN IN. SOUND COULD HAVE BEEN BETTER AS INSTRUMENTS DROWNED OUT McQUIRE AT TIMES....ESPECIALLY ON THEIR NEW SONG.
Trooper turned in a great performance at the McPhillips Street Station in Winnipeg. A very successful act on the Canadian scene in the late 1970's, their 90-minute setlist included all of their Top 40 hits from that era (except one - see below). Ra McGuire looked like my parish priest but sang as well as he ever did and had a nice rapport with the audience. There were a couple of disappointments. Two of their biggest hits, "Round, Round We Go" and "The Moment that it Takes," were originally sung by former group member Frank Ludwig. Their bass player, Scott Brown, turned in a credible performance on "Round, Round" (although no one would have mistaken him for Ludwig) and the group did not attempt "The Moment." That sort of thing is unavoidable. It is harder to understand why they did "We're Here for a Good Time (Not a Long Time)" as their encore when they had opened the show with it. "Raise a Little Hell," which they had done as the last song of their regular set, would have been better left for the encore. Overall, though, a great show and a great party.
The Trooper concert was superb! Two of the five members of the group are the originals. The boys sure know how to have a good time on stage and they pass this along to their audience. The audience was up on their feet swaying and singing along. The finest moment for me was when all of the members of the group came out to sign old albums and other mementos for the audience. They were so welcoming as they chatted and signed. Canada's finest!!
Audiences love it when the band is having fun. Music was loud and entertaining and there was a lot of dialogue with the audience. The sound wasn't the best, but better than Club Regent.
