About

With a catalog of songs that reaches back 50 years, Van Morrison always delivers a concert that’s impossible to predict  for his many ticket buyers. The iconic Northern Ireland native has, of course, recorded classic albums like Moondance and Astral Weeks, and timeless singles like "Brown Eyed Girl," "Domino," and "Wild Night." But he's released well over 30 albums during the course of his career, building a repertoire that veers from Celtic music to folk to blues to covers of standards. His focus on any given night could switch on the dime as he follows his muse wherever it takes him. Fans fill seats to see Van Morrison on tour because the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer is a master of making his own whatever genre or song he tackles. His unmistakable voice is a reedy and expressive growl, and his delivery --  which is constantly evolving -- conjures elements of jazz, blues and gospel. His latest album, 2012's Born to Sing: No Plan B, marked his first batch of original songs in five years and was hailed by many critics as recalling his much-heralded recordings of the late '60s and early '70s. It peaked at No. 10 on the Billboard 200 chart.

    Van Morrison

by callmewhatyoulike on 2015-09-24Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

Show was good. Van was amazing, band was excellent. The show was not long enough. He started at 8 and was out by 9:30. For the price of the tickets he could of played a lot longer. You were not allowed to take a picture so I can not upload a photo as they had flashlights pointed on you if you did even put your phone up to even try to take a photo.. You were spotted out and everyone would look at you...like shame on you for trying to take a photo when you paid over 200.00 bucks for a ticket.

    EnVancement

by Rushmore on 2015-09-24Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

This was one of the most memorable musical evenings that I have witnessed. Van was spellbounding in sound and soul. He and the band played a royal flush trumping song after song. And, for those who may comment he didn't play this song or that song with a catalogue as deep and diverse as his, I am just thrilled to have heard any one of the songs he presented. He has been the only performer that has absolutely taken me from my seat and placed me "into the music". Totally entrancing and an unforgettable evening.

    Van The Man

by booterboy on 2015-09-23Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

Well, if you like rhythm & blues then you should really like this show. Maybe time to move to a smaller venue. Just my opinion. Nothing that man does disappoints me but you have to be a REAL fan. I can't imagine anyone who rates Van as a 6 or 7 out of 10 on the I LOVE VAN MORRISON scale would be enthused about this show. But if you love the blues and are not too worried about nostalgic tunes from the past, then this show should meet your needs. But at 200 dollars a pop for balcony seats I thought way too pricey except for the diehard fans.

Show started on time-was fast paced, with 10 second intervals between tunes-no talking in between, all music, continuous stream-definitely got swept up and away-fabulous concert

Apparently van Morrison isn't drinking at this time and so did not allow any alcoholic beverages to be taken to your seats. I wouldn't have minded have a glass of wine during the show. I thought this was ridiculous. Part way through the concert, a lady behind us tapped my husband on his shoulder and told him to stop moving his head, keep it still as it was blocking her view....(it seems that when my husband leaned in a bit to talk to me, which was very infrequent, this bothered her). A few words were exchanged and made for the rest of the event to be uncomfortable. I was surprised how much jazz was played, not my favorite, don't recall van morrison playing so much of this type of music.

    very disappointed

by JoJoF on 2015-09-23Sony Centre - Toronto

I have never been so disappointed in a concert in all my life. My husband and I went because we grew up listening to him and Brown Eyed Girl was our song. He never engaged the crowd once, not a hello, not a thank you, not a good night. He came on and sang and then left. Not one word to the crowd. We thought his encore would be Brown Eyed Girl ...but no, not even an encore. He did not sing Brown Eyed Girl,, not Into the Mystic, nor Crazy Love. Even on Moondance, his back up singers sang the chorus or he played the sax. It was like he did not care and did not want to be there. I would not recommend shelling out any money at all to see him, let alone the big bucks it costs.

    Van Morrison is genius

by Kneehigh on 2015-09-23Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

It is rare that you can see an artist who at 70 you would expect is possibly at his peak. Van Morrison is that. No matter what he played, he gave his whole heart, soul and attention to it. Some songs we recognized from long ago, and some were new, but it didn't matter because each one held the same impact. He's a genius and we loved him up. Thank you Van for coming to Toronto because you're always worth the wait.

    Still has it

by kismaci on 2015-09-23Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

Van Morrison is an amazing performer. Excellent show, great band, his vocal strength and range at age 71 is truly remarkable. The saxophone playing as well as the harmonica playing were tremendous. Wide range of genres covered, Blues, Rhythm and Blues, Rock, Jazz, Gospel were very entertaining

    Van Morrison was disappointing

by Anonymous on 2015-09-23Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

While his voice is still fantastic, and his band amazing, the setlist was really, really disappointing. I know he's got so much material, but I was hoping and expecting a few of the really big hits, and they were a small piece of the performance. It was a really pricey ticket, so didn't feel I got enough value.

    Van Morrison

by JD21 on 2015-09-23Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

I loved the concert as did my wife. A little weird that the band appeared to be getting ready for an encore but Van did not come back out. Bummer , he did not play three of his most famous songs , especially Brown Eyed Girl ! Too bad. He sounded as good as ever though.

You could miss it, it won't matter

by MusicFool1 on 2015-09-23Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

Van theMan is great, we all know that.... his voice is just like it is on his albums, his dark glasses and hat are now a trademark. But for $250 per ticket, he didn't sing any and I mean ANY of his hits! Take all the songs he sings, Brown Eyed Girl, Caravan, Real Real Gone, Into the Mystic, I could go on and on, but he didn't sing one of them, he did sing Gloria at the very end, then the house lights came on and he was gone......... The Sony Centre is not the right venue to Rock Out, but then again, you didn't get to rock out with Van until his very last song, then he was gone. Sorry I love you Van, but I was really disappointed..... '

    The legend live!

by Goaliemom on 2015-09-23Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

I finally got to see Van Morrison live. My expectations were high and I was not disappointed. I did hear some grumbling on the way out that there was no Brown-Eyed Girl. That didn't bother me one bit. I admire artists who continually evolve. A boring show for me is when old acts from back in the day play nothing but the old hits. The extended version of Gloria played by the band as a finale was fantastic. This was a great show.

Van Morrison has no stage presence

by Anonymous on 2015-09-23Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

Voice is still great. Does not speak to the audience, does not introduce the band. Songs go on way to long, and he missed some of his big hits i.e. Brown Eyed girl, into the Mystic. He left the stage with out bowing, or saying a word to the audience. This is the most I have ever spent on two concert tickets and it left me feeling ripped off.

    Still Amazing

by Stevo on 2015-09-22Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

I have seen Van Morrison in concert about 8 times and this was one of the best shows yet. The venue of course was awesome and he sounded great. The songs he chose we outstanding. Of course, he continues to have almost no dialogue with his audience, but that's just him. For first timers, they were probably disappointed that he didn't sing 'Brown Eyed Girl', but there were enough amazing songs to keep anyone happy. It's hard to believe he is 70 and still sounds so great.

    If I'd seen a playlist, I wouldn't have spent $180

by beedub on 2015-09-22Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

Van Morrison concert was so so. He did his very old tunes and things like motherless child and old blues. He did them well...but nothing much past 1974 or so, disappointing, there are many many of his later songs that are spectacular, such as Sense of Wonder. It was a good show but not the high skill beautiful songs I was hoping for. I also got the impression that it was a don't care kind of thing which would have been lifted if he had put in some of his more interesting and beautiful work from the 70's and 80's.

    Good show but........

by raunch on 2015-09-22Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

This was my first time seeing Van Morrison. He and his band put on a really good show, but when it ended I felt like something was missing. Don't get me wrong........his voice was great, and his sax and harmonica playing were really good. His band was terrific. I am sure that die-hards thought it was an amazing show. However, I am not a die-hard. I am a fan of his music (mostly songs you would consider to be 'hits'). I thought the set list was good, but could have been better. We did get Moondance, Wild Night, and a kicking version of Gloria, but we didn't get Brown Eyed Girl, Domino (both songs played the day before in Ottawa), or Into The Mystic, which did make a difference in my opinion of the show. Also, the concert started at 8 o'clock sharp....and was over at 9:40. I can't remember the last time I left a concert before 10 p.m. on a Saturday night. Considering the cost of tickets to see him ($550 for a pair of mediocre seats), I thought there would have been a little more involved. I would only recommend this show to super fans.

    Van Morrison can still perform

by PaoloWidower on 2015-09-22Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

Great venue, great artist, not a fan-pleaser, with very limited hits performed. He's obviously still a creative talent and not catering to his base from the 60s and 70s, yet. If you know he's a quirky character, was what was to be expected.Pricing was somewhat high ($250 for good seat) but overall a good value to see a legend in a nice venue. 90 minute set, one encore, lights on.

    Van Morrison

by Meeganman on 2015-09-22Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

Fantastic evening! Van was in top form. His band was a little smaller than usual but were they ever great. They jammed for about ten minutes after Van left the stage during his final song, Gloria. The audience gave them a standing ovation.
