Vancouver Whitecaps FC History
The Vancouver Whitecaps may have only joined MLS in 2011 (alongside the Portland Timbers), but the team has a long history in the Pacific Northwest. The Whitecaps first launched in 1974 as a member of the now-defunct North American Soccer League and moved to the Canadian Soccer League in 1986 as the 86ers. The team would remain as the 86ers until 2000 when the Whitecaps name resurfaced as part of the A-League, which would later become the United Soccer League (USL).
Finally, on March 18, 2009, the Whitecaps were introduced as the newest franchise in MLS, where they would keep the Whitecaps name as part of the United States' top division. The club qualified for their first playoff run in 2012, becoming the first Canadian MLS franchise to do so. Meanwhile, the Whitecaps have claimed the Voyageurs Cup at the annual interleague Canadian Championship in 2015, 2022, and 2013 and count 2013 MLS Golden Boot winner Camilo Sanvezzo among their alumni.

Great Night
by Anonymous on 2010-07-27Swangard Stadium - BurnabyRating: 4 out of 5Going to the event was a very memorable evening as my late father had seasons tickets for many years in the 80's for the Whitecaps at Swanguard Stadium. Swanguard Stadium is a very good venue for many sporting events, and I know and support the Whitecaps moving out and joining the big ligues. I wish them all the best. The workers were all helpful and friendly. No big line ups. The game was fun and exciting. Great evening. I recommend it highly.
Dissapointing event
by Rasta on 2010-07-26Swangard Stadium - BurnabyRating: 1 out of 5This was the first time I watched the whitecaps play. Their level of play is very poor. Paying nearly $40 for silver seating and watching an amateurish game. I would definitely not go again (The opposing team: minnesota was just as poor)
Great Goals
by KiwiTrev on 2010-07-15Swangard Stadium - BurnabyRating: 4 out of 5The soccer was great - more enjoyable watching this live soccer than watching the World Cup on the TV. The picking up of the "Will Call" tickets was a disaster - very very inefficient, had to wait a long time, and they did not have our family pack coupons in the packet. So had to wait further for those. The so called hamburger/chips/drink deal on the family pack was also very disappointing. Had to wait for these as well. Consequently we missed the introductions and the first few minutes of the game.
Game of 2 halves!
by Anonymous on 2010-05-20Swangard Stadium - BurnabyRating: 3 out of 5Toronto FC aren't easy. However, the Whitecaps are certainly the better team up front. As in other games I watched last season the Whitecaps only seem able to really threaten in one half, usually the second half. More bodies forward and a few more shots actually on target, would have seen off Toronto. More quality in the side, combined with a bit more self-belief would see the ball in the back of the net.
Whitecaps great family event
by AuntieFromFarAway on 2010-05-20Swangard Stadium - BurnabyRating: 4 out of 5It was fun seeing this my 11-year old nephew. Good exposure to the different types of culture, with athletics being focused on.
The making of a fan
by Poker on 2010-05-16Swangard Stadium - BurnabyRating: 5 out of 5I took my son to a game last year and after that he wanted to join soccer. Saturdays game just affirmed to him how much he likes soccer. He's 9 by the way. Walking past the souvenires he mentioned he would like a hat, so for $20 i said sure. After the game had ended we heard over the P.A. if you would like autographs from the Whitecaps go to the front of the grandstand. We looked at each other and didnt hesitate to get down there. My son ended up getting his new hat signed by close to half the team. The look and smile on his face after getting the first autograph was pricless. Thank You

The Sounders Cheering group were great. I look forward when we have fans that are as loud and proud and I can't wait for away trips down to Seattle. Make sure any new statium has no running track between fans and field!

Exciting game with some impressive goals!! Great atmosphere at the stadium! Too bad Montreal scored late. Impressive 2nd half. Poor effort in the 1st with a lot of confusion on defense and no flow to the attack!
awesome atmosphere at swanguard

Caps vs Impact Oct.10
by mikeyb on 2009-10-11Swangard Stadium - BurnabyRating: 5 out of 5What a second half !!! Great game overall on a beautiful night on a REAL grass field. ( Turf SUCKS!!!!) Questionable reffing, especially the red to Nash and the Impact's second goal. I was on the side where the assistant ref made the non call on the offside. He was out of position and the Impact player was at least a couple of steps off. C'est la vie!!! Good luck Caps next week !!!

Whitecaps Final
by Wild1 on 2009-10-11Swangard Stadium - BurnabyRating: 4 out of 5Really an entertaining event to be part of ! The Whitecaps defensive unit has to pick up their game. Love the flow of soccer...different skill levels are still interesting to watch for us.
Refering decides final
by Wildthang on 2009-10-11Swangard Stadium - BurnabyRating: 4 out of 5The referee wanted to be the first star. The ref should be invisible, if he/she is doing a good job. This ref made a mockery of the game. The players had no base line. Many calls were missed both ways. This ref decided the outcome of the final, taking it away from the players. In conclusion. THE REFEREEING SUCKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Whitecaps Rock!
by grapeguy on 2009-09-25Swangard Stadium - BurnabyRating: 5 out of 5It was an amazing game and an all around great night! I have season tickets but I bought a few extra to bring my mom and brother and they absolutely loved it as well!
Cool Caps
by TheBigTrip on 2009-09-20Swangard Stadium - BurnabyRating: 4 out of 5When we entered the stadium we were surprised to see how buzzing it was. A great pre-game party atmosphere with live music, BBQ and beer tents. It was a good football match and we liked the freebies which included a comfy whitecaps pad for our seats. The crowd needed a bit of encouragement, but with our football lungs at hand, everyone got going with the cheers. Really liked Swanguard stadium. Hope the Whitecaps stay at an open roof stadium in future.
