Vancouver Whitecaps FC History
The Vancouver Whitecaps may have only joined MLS in 2011 (alongside the Portland Timbers), but the team has a long history in the Pacific Northwest. The Whitecaps first launched in 1974 as a member of the now-defunct North American Soccer League and moved to the Canadian Soccer League in 1986 as the 86ers. The team would remain as the 86ers until 2000 when the Whitecaps name resurfaced as part of the A-League, which would later become the United Soccer League (USL).
Finally, on March 18, 2009, the Whitecaps were introduced as the newest franchise in MLS, where they would keep the Whitecaps name as part of the United States' top division. The club qualified for their first playoff run in 2012, becoming the first Canadian MLS franchise to do so. Meanwhile, the Whitecaps have claimed the Voyageurs Cup at the annual interleague Canadian Championship in 2015, 2022, and 2013 and count 2013 MLS Golden Boot winner Camilo Sanvezzo among their alumni.

Great time for all ages! Good family outing.!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great game! Fun day out with the family. We all left with smiles on our faces.
This was an excellent game. Whitecaps young squad showed they had something to prove. Many attacks were finally rewarded with an excellent header into the back of the net followed shortly by another well deserved second goal. Not quite the premiership match we are used to but lots of fun and a very family atmostphere created a good afternoon out.
Good game, nice family atmosphere Why is the special 'family special' ticket package not available for a family of 5?
Excellent venue, weather, crowd and game! Took my son for his first game, and mine in 20 years. We both loved it. Vancouver truly controlled the game. Was frustrating to watch the long durations where Vancouver couldn't put the ball away. However, they did not disappoint. Two terrific goals near the end of the match topped off the game beautifully. Will look into seasons tickets! Go Caps Go!
I attended my first Whitecaps game with my boyfriend who is a ref for socceer - well I had so much fun I think I will be buying seasons passes for us next year. It was great family fun and so entertaining - not only good socceer was being played but the crowd were amazing.
Great venue & good entertainment value on a sunny afternoon or evening. The opportunity to get up close to the action by standing on the pitch in the south end is unparalleled in other sports (unless you have a press card)
I purchased the family pack which included a dinner coupon to Boston Pizza. On the night of the game I went to the box office several hours before the game started so that I could pick up the tickets and the dinner coupon. My family and I wanted to eat dinner before the game started. I was very disappointed to find out that the box office didn't open until 7:00 pm (one hour before the game). That certainly didn't give us enough time to eat. Since when do little kids eat dinner after 10:00 pm? If you're going to sell tickets to the game which include dinner, please make sure that we can get those tickets well in advance of the game starting so that we can enjoy the dinner the night of the game. The game itself was fine.
i guess they sold too many good players and the remplacements are mediocre at best. whitecaps must improve a lot within two years time to be competitive in the much better MSL.. I am not willing to pay MSL prices to watch a third division team and i believe we are much more fans. we will pay MSL prices for a MSL caliber team.
Well the 40 minutes of game time that we did get to see was very good! Wish we could have stayed for the rest, but the lightning and thunder show stalled the game, and by 9pm the game was still not on, and so we had to go. But I would do this again - and hopefully we will have an entire game to watch! Go whitecaps GO!!!!
The game, and amenities were very good but the game was 'storm' delayed. That was not the problem, the very poor communication by the whitecaps to fans was very noticable. They needed to provide regular updates. As a result we waited an hour and then took our crying boy home due to the very poor whitecap communication. A gift certificate should be offered to ticket holders.
Whose idea was it to have the concessions closed during the two plus hour postponement of the game due to Thunder and Lightning? You could have made a fortune and we could have had something to at least eat or drink to bide the time. Bad plan!
For our first time at a white caps game it was strange to see the game stop 2 minutes before the end of the first half. We knew that the stormy weather was contributing, but after another two hours of watching people in suits lingering by the microphones without making a single announcement of what was going on and whether or not the game was going to continue we decided to cut our losses and leave. Imagine our surprise when we saw that the game resumed about 15 minutes after we left. I was really disappointed. I surprised my boyfriend with the tickets to the game for his birthday and felt that it completely backfired on me. I would like to go to another game in the future because I felt that the fans added a lot of energy to the game, but I think I will wait for the taste of disappointment to leave me. If nothing else it was one for the books- a night we'll never forget, but for all the wrong reasons.
My first time at Swangard to see the Whitecaps and I've lived here for 25 years. My oldest son was visiting with his son, my grandson and they just thought the game was great. They wanted to see the team that beat their Toronto F.C. Great night out and I will do it again.
the first half was good but then the thuinder hit ever thunder or lightning we had to wait a half an hour i left before it restarted they had to wait 2 hours and 30 minutes and then they restarted
Well it started off ok.... waited at the Will Call window to pick our tickets..... suppose to be open at 630pm but much closer to 7pm. Then the gates were suppose to be open at 7pm but it was closer to 715pm. The delay??? They didn't have the Will Call booth set up. I would expect that would have been done prior as they are aware they need the booth. Minor inconvenience. Our seats were good (no real bad seats) but they are plain hard wood... again you would think they could spend some money and either pad them or provide returnable seat pads. The game was entertaining but there was a lightning storm that ended the game at the 43minute mark..... While they kept announcing they would attempt to play the rest of the game the stadium employees were cleaning and closing all the stations. Ok so the employees know you are not going to play any more. Why not tell the fans? Hoping to get away with not refunding the money for the game? Whatever dont expect a refund but at least be honest and get everyone out of there at a reasonable time instead of letting everyone believe the game will continue. Over all my daughter and I had a good time. Not because of the venue but the game was good (what was played) and my daughter rocks!
It was a great game we won 4-2.However I wish "mother nature" would be more coopperative. I also wish that every seat could be covered.
We were expecting to see the males play soccer. We were shocked to see it was the girls. A truly awesome experience. We would definitely buy tickets to see women soccer again.
No where in the ticketmaster advertising did we see where this was women's soccer. We left after the first five minutes.
The game was very enjoyable and the facilities were excellent. No complaints at all except that the lineup for mini-donuts was too long so we didn't get any
