The second man was funny too. The nature of his jokes had me shaking my head saying, "oh my gosh. This is not okay. I cannot believe he just said that."I had never before watched Whitney do stand-up comedy but I remembered her fondly from her sitcom TV shows years ago. (I loved that show.) I was excited to experience her for the first time live. The stage was very simple, and her intro was strangely subdued, but then I looked around and was reminded that the audience was not the kind I usually encountered at comedy shows. (Take from that what you will). She was funny. My husband, who had never heard of her before, clearly enjoyed her performance more than I did. It was great evening out. As Whitney commented at the close, for a bunch of mature working people to be out on a Friday night for a late show, you know we all really wanted to be there. I did not yawn once. She did a great job interacting with the audience. Actually, the topics of discussion were a bit surprising, and I learned of some of Canada's political rumours which I'd never before heard. It was enlightening. Her offering can be accurately described as social commentary. She touched on a wide variety of topics, and the most striking for me was how motherhood changed attitudes about the world around us. I'm no mother, so I certainly can't empathise there, but still it was interesting and a topic she addressed with a decent balance of honesty and humour. She looked confident, and I hope she felt it too. Much kudos to her. It was a good show. (The old theatre with the forest walls/ceiling, lent a very peculiar juxtaposition to the modern, sometimes vulgar show.)
