About

WICKED, the Broadway sensation, looks at what happened in the Land of Oz…but from a different angle.  Long before Dorothy arrives, there is another girl, born with emerald-green skin—smart, fiery, misunderstood, and possessing an extraordinary talent. When she meets a bubbly blonde who is exceptionally popular, their initial rivalry turns into the unlikeliest of friendships…until the world decides to call one “good,” and the other one “wicked.”

With a thrilling score that includes the hits “Defying Gravity,” “Popular” and “For Good,” WICKED has been hailed by The New York Times as “the defining musical of the decade.” Time Magazine cheers, “if every musical had the brain, the heart, and the courage of WICKED, Broadway really would be a magical place.”

From the first electrifying note to the final breathtaking moment, WICKED—the untold true story of the Witches of Oz—transfixes audiences with its wildly inventive story. It will send your spirits soaring to heights you’ll never forget.

Amazing! Incredible performance. The actresses and actors were bang on, not a single faulty note whatsoever. The cast and crew have extraordinary talent! Set was jaw dropping, it seemed to change for every scene. 'Defying Gravity' was everything we hoped it would be - and much more!

Wicked provides an exciting theatre experience that surpasses so many other shows today. The music, lighting and talented cast made it the most engaging, exceptional musical I have seen since Phantom of the Opera. The Orpheum theatre contributed to the experience with the history and dynamics of the theatre.

Excellent production with a story and presentation easily understood by attendees of all ages. Actors were great and vocals excellent also. Orpheum is a seasoned facility in great shape albeit warm in the upper balcony. It was wonderful to finally see the story since I have known the music by heart for years. I will never think of the wicked witch of the west the same way again !!

  • Wicked is... well, wicked!

One of the best touring Broadway shows I have ever seen, without a doubt. The cast was phenomenal. Normally I would be a little sad having a main character's understudy perform, but the u/s for Galinda was able to really compliment Elphaba - the play is about their friendship, and they really brought that through. The special effects, lighting, costumes, music were all top-notch. I would recommend this show for anyone who even remotely enjoyed the Wizard of Oz, even if you are not a big fan of musicals - the two stories are intertwined quite well, and often commically.

Wicked was very well done. The costumes, sets and delivery were really great. The music and singing were done fabulously, however, I found that there wasn't one piece that stood out as a signature composition. This was quite unfortunate. Aside from that, I would recommend this play as it was overall very enjoyable.

Went to San Fran looking for a family show to take the kids to while on vacation, and I wasn't disappointed. Great weaving of the original story and an overall excellent musical. I'd love to see it again. Great performances, great music, great lyrics.

  • Wonderful Wicked

    by Suz886 on 2010-08-14Orpheum Theatre - San FranciscoRating: 5 out of 5

Wicked in San Francisco was the best production I've seen since Les Miserables in 1989 - Wicked really earned it's 5-star rating from me! the cast was so trhillingly good - the voices - magical and the comic acting extremely enjoyable - especially the dorm room scene - LOVE Glinda's scream into the pillows! Many perfect touches as well - teh FX were effortless and the dancers sublime! the story and sriting was so much better than I'd expected - I thought this would be trite, but it actually almost brought me to tears with laughter and heartache - so poignant. All together it was a smashing success!!

The singing was excellent. The understudy for the Wicked witch of the west performed for our wednesday night show and she was awesome. The acting by the two main witches added much to our our enjoyment of the show. We liked the twists and the development of the story into the traditional one. We would recommend that anyone who likes the original see Wicked!

  • doesn't matter how many times I've seen it!

saw the tour production and Sydney one and came in with high expectations but the experience remains stellar. There are obvious small quirks that are unique to each production but I found that it spices things up. What an amazing way to end a great weekend in San Francisco.

The staging, music and acting were all great. Saw it with my 7-year-old son, and we both very much enjoyed the play.

Read the book so knew what story line to expect, but didn't expect the musical to be soooo funny. Cast was tremendous - loved the witches. And the Orpheum Theatre in San Francisco is gorgeous.

  • Good, but no NYC

by lysmekah on 2010-07-14Orpheum Theatre - San FranciscoRating: 4 out of 5

This is the 3rd time I saw Wicked this year - because I LOVED the show. However, the San Francisco version paled in comparison to the NYC Broadway production. The costumes, lighting, special effects were all cheaper and it was easy to see microphones and costume errors that made it harder to suspend disbelief. We had seat in the front row - which were TERRIBLE - we couldn't see over the edge of the stage. We spent half the show watching the conductor. On the positive side - the conductor was great! The person playing Glinda was hilarious - she was the one bright start of the show. She had real chemistry with Elphaba and added her own flare to the role that made is new and refreshing. However, if you're going to spend the money and have the choice, see it in NYC. It was MIND-BLOWING there.

I had heard about Wicked from my music teacher who was completely in love with the musical. After hearing a song from the soundtrack, I couldn't help but fall in love with it too! As soon as I heard about the tour coming to Seattle, I purchased tickets to see it for the first time. Bottom line? The show was more than I could have hoped for! The songs, the acting, the humour, and the clever twist it brings to the story of the the Wizard of Oz is one that everyone should have the pleasure of experiencing.

One of the best theatrical shows that I have seen! The cast was exceptional, as were the staging, costumes and orchestra. If you are at all curious in seeing this show, you should definitely do so!

  • Wicked is truly wicked

by Hilman on 2010-06-08Orpheum Theatre - San FranciscoRating: 5 out of 5

The musical Wicked was probably the best show we have seen and we have seen quite a few. The stage and performers were unbelievable with an amazing story and music selection. If you only see one musical this year, this should probably be it as it was truly wicked (pun intended).

  • Wicked was wickedly forgettable

    by Merk13 on 2010-05-07Orpheum Theatre - San FranciscoRating: 2 out of 5

Wicked is a poorly written, "clever" show that makes cringe-inducing references to pop culture and the 1939 Wizard of Oz movie. It has no soul, the music is insipid—though it will probable appeal to the same crowd who worship Celine Dion, Kenny G and Cirque de Soleil. However, I give it credit for a wonderful set design, lighting and costumes. Too bad about the rest of it though.
