Winnipeg Jets History
The Winnipeg Jets were founded in 1997 as the Thrashers, and began play in the 1999–2000 NHL season, spending 11 seasons in Atlanta and making the playoffs once in 2006-2007. In 2011, the franchise was sold to True North Sports and Entertainment, which relocated the team to Winnipeg and adopted the name of the city's original franchise in the World Hockey Association, the Jets.
Major league hockey dates back to 1972 in Winnipeg, which was home to one of the founding franchises of the WHA and one of four (along with Quebec, Hartford and Edmonton) to join the NHL when the leagues merged in 1979. The original Jets moved to Phoenix in 1996 and became the Phoenix Coyotes (now the Arizona Coyotes). In the 12 seasons that the Jets have been in Winnipeg, they’ve made six playoff appearances, including a run to the Western Conference Finals in 2018.
In 2016, the team established the Winnipeg Jets Hall of Fame, with the "Hot Line" trio of Anders Hedberg, Bobby Hull and Ulf Nilsson as the inaugural inductees. Recent inductees include Teemu Selänne and Teppo Numminen.

Rating: 5 out of 5 Jets flying high!!!!
by snickerdoodle on 2011-10-20MTS Centre - WinnipegOriginally I was sad that I didn't get to go to the first game but that all changed at the game itself. I cried during the opening video on the scoreboard and when the anthem was sung. The moment was surreal when the Jets scored within the first 8 seconds of the game. I was so lucky to get to be there for the Jets first win on home turf since they left. What a wonderful night!

Rating: 5 out of 5 Jets vs Penguins .... mind-blowing!
by Schmooles on 2011-10-19MTS Centre - WinnipegI was very excited to be in attendance when the Winnipeg Jets took on the Pittsburgh Penguins. The atmosphere in the MTS Center was nothing short of electric and to be a part of the capacity crowd was an experience I will never forget. With my seat in the front row just to the left of the goalie, I was felt very a part of ALL the action both on and off the ice. I will definitely be back and hope that seat is available! Go Jets Go!!!
Rating: 5 out of 5 Jets came to play!
by Mayday18 on 2011-10-19MTS Centre - WinnipegEveryone knows it's hard to get tickets to a Jets game for the next 3 years. We purchased 5 tickets, single seats, all 3 of which were in the same section and I managed to take my 6 year old to her first NHL game. She loved every minute of it and is hooked and can't wait to go again. She is tiny and sat on my lap for the whole game. It was the Jets first win this year over the Penguins and worth every penny we paid for our seats. We will definitely be going again! GO! JETS! GO!HOCKEY

by Rockstar23 on 2011-10-11MTS Centre - WinnipegThe day was amazing even though the result was not what we would have hoped. It was great to see a NHL team back on the ice in this city. Now that the excitement of the day has come and gone, I look forward to seeing this team come together and meld in the coming months.
