wonderful performance of Beethoven's ninth. All around first rate.
Not only did we get to watch our favourite movie but also see the wonderful Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra perform. A totally enjoyable evening
Singin in the Rain is the musical I have seen over and over again since I was a child, when I saw it in its first release. My absolute favorite movie. To see it with the WSO providing the music, well, It exceeded my expectations.
Anderson & Roe were a wonderful addition to the evening, and the classic Bolero was performed beautifully. I would recommend to anyone!
I was filled with hope and wonder and how humans can achieve such beauty in art. It reminded me of God's goodness and how dearly He cares for all humans
All of the music artists were amazing! Their music played by the WSO made it even better!
We had a great time! Our seats were fantastic and the WSO was amazing! We would definitely go back. Made a great first anniversary present.
The Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra presented two masterworks that were both familiar and fresh to fans of classical music. Mendelssohn's Em Violin Concerto has long been an opportunity for soloists to display technical and interpretive skills. Augustin Hadelich did both, wowing the audience and earning 3 curtain calls and an encore. Our WSO supported him beautifully. By contrast, the orchestra had to work through Mahler's hour long 4th Symphony, a piece with flights of wonder that sometimes seem never able to find resolve. That satisfying conclusion came in the Fourth Movement with the aid of soprano Monica Huisman's singing of "The Heavenly Life" lieder.
This is a favourite piece of music for us but the first time we have heard it live. It was a wonderful evening. Soloists were excellent but the favourite part was the blending of the chorus and the symphony. There were moments when it was hard to tell one from the other they blended so beautifully. Would definitely recommend it and would go again ourselves.
The Orchestra was just great as were the St. James' School Choirs. MC Ace Burpee was hilarious.
WSO superb and choirs excellent. Fred Penners bits did not fit the evening and were amateurish/ Cheesy. Ace Burpee as host brought a modern down-to-earth attitude to the evening.
The orchestra and choir was simple awesome. A very enjoyable event!
Spectacular. Good showmanship. I liked the funny character who appeared in between the show and entertained us.
The only bad part was that the symphony was so good that I forgot I was at the symphony!
Had a fantastic time. Wish I could experience it again.
While i knew there would be some kind of media presentation about Vivaldi: The Four Seasons i never expected what we got. A complete explanation of why Vivaldi composed "The Four Seasons" the way he did. The facts were most definitely interesting but i believe more appropriate to a musical discussion or classroom presentation than a Symphony Orchestra piece. This actually made the whole symphony less awe inspiring in my case. I fell asleep during the media presentation and then was hard pressed to pay attention during the actual performance of this musical masterpiece. Many of the people around me never applauded during the media presentation and showed a lack of enthusiasm towards the hard facts. The Symphony itself was great! It was well performed and as good as expected. In my opinion they could have performed the whole symphony twice and i would have appreciated that even more! If the media presentation had not been there at all this review would get a 4.5/5!
First hour was interesing but a little long for my taste. rest of show was perfect!!!
The fact that the music was performed by the WYS was fantastic... Those youngsters were amazing... And they didn't even get paid... If you cosed your eyes you would think it was the WSO. Give that group of musicians more credit and advertising.
My grand-daughter thoroughly enjoyed all of the pre-concert events and was totally engrossed with the puppets as well as the music.
We had a great time! The music was fantastic, the choir was awesome, and best of all the message in The Messiah life changing.Only downside was that we were sitting so far back.Definitely would get a seat closer to the front next time!
