    Best show of my life!!!

by smouka on 2009-08-05Kool Haus - Toronto

What an amzing set! It was perfectly shaped with new and old songs. Karen O's stage presence is nothing short of hypnotic as she had a sold out show fall completely under her spell. My only issue with the concert were some of the fans. I guess when you're a die-hard fan and you're forced to watch over the heads of frozen zmobie-like figures who didn't even pretend to know any of the words to songs it may sour the moment a little. The YYY's popularity has soared to new platteaus which were realized whiIe I danced and sang in the strangest most mixed up crowd I've ever seen at any concert. don't get me wrong, i loved every second of it. And the perfortmance of "maps" was an all-time favourite. The whole crowd was sining along and it was as true as a love song can ever be.

    Yeah Yeah Yeahs--Yes Yes Yes

by AdamJakedog on 2009-08-05Kool Haus - Toronto

Not stop energy . Fun, loud, etc Covered most of the big hits. Crowd was totally into it. Really, really enjoyed it 3rd show I have been to at Kool Haus in the last 2 weeks and I have one question--who is picking the freaking music that is played between sets?? It was so awful last night--screaming death metal?

    Amazing.

    by erika1988 on 2009-08-05Kool Haus - Toronto

This concert was amazing. Karen O was all smiles throughout the entire concert, which I have never experienced before. They all seem to actually ENJOY performing. Three encores, costume changes, a cool set. Overall, fantastic.

    crazy awesomeness!

    by fan00 on 2009-08-05Kool Haus - Toronto

It was the first time I've seen the YYY's and they did not disappoint. The stage was awesome and shiny, with a huge moving eyeball for good measure. Karen O. was beautiful, intense and adorable all at once. She sang gorgeously and shouted profoundly. She worked the stage brilliantly. Her costume changes were kooky and soo fun! When you weren't jumping around you were starring at Karen and wondering how she was bending the way she was, or simply wondering what she was doing! They opened slowly with Runaway, but then jumped right into more aggressive songs. A stripped down Maps was a favorite, and Soft Shock was also amazing. An incredible night!

    YYY stick to their guns

by tvotrfan on 2009-08-05Kool Haus - Toronto

Karen was spectacular as always, and the guys were 99% on top of things... all the new stuff was bang-on and the older stuff still sounded fresh, with the band looking and playing like they still wanted it. With few exceptions though, the songs often sounded like album cuts being played through the Kool Haus PA... which works, I guess, but it tends to leave me feeling a bit ripped off. Sadly, Nick's guitars were often lost in the mix, where at times the layered synth sounds washed out his tone and left too much room for Karen's voice... making for a karaoke-like effect. However, she rarely misses a note, and when she does, it's only because she's tending to the more visual aspect of her performance. One surprising lowlight for the show was an acoustic rendition of perennial favorite "Maps"... beautiful and haunting, but thin and flat with the sparse accompaniment. All in all, totally worth $40 to see a band that continues to grow and inspire.

Band was awesome, Crowd was lame.

by Joser on 2009-08-05Kool Haus - Toronto

The Yeah Yeah Yeahs put on a great set with a lot of new stuff, old stuff, and altogether good music. The audience at koolhaus however, lacked any kind of ambition and had no impulse to dance or even move. It seemed everyone was competing to see who could stand closest to the stage without moving..So the band was great and I had a great time with the band but the crowd was frankly killing my buzz.

    O YEAH!!

    by tone17 on 2009-08-05Kool Haus - Toronto

Karen O is my new favourite frontman. From the opening song, the audience was in her control. She danced, we danced, she literally burst with an infectious energy that belittled those strategically used confetti canons. The radiance of her colourful outfits paled to her smile and the genuine enjoyment she was exuding last night. And it's not like the crowd wasn't giving back. Toronto audiences can be notoriously stand-offish but on this night it was mayhem. Thunderous is the only way to describe the applause that greeted the beginning and end of every song and encore. This was a rock show. Nick and Brian played with an intensity that matched hers as they tore through a set list that drew from their first 3 albums and ep giving each release it's due. and i gotta say that Brian is one of the tastiest drummers out there today. His beats are thoughtful yet can build to something bombastic & Zeppelinesque if the moment requires it. Karen said it had been two years since they last played Toronto and then added "two years too long". Hell yeah yeah yeah!

    Yeah Yeah Yeahs were ok...

    by TO30 on 2009-08-05Kool Haus - Toronto

The show was pretty good, but SHORT (just over an hour). Not really interactive with the crowd. They did sound fantastic live.

The Night I Got Karen O'wned

by StephV on 2009-08-05Kool Haus - Toronto

I've been a Yeah Yeah Yeahs fan for years, and somehow their 2007 tour snuck right under my nose. I had waited long, and my expectations were high. The openers were danceable, and kept reminding the crowd "Are you ready? You should be. I've been with the Yeah Yeah Yeahs every night, and every night, they keep getting better and better." The band came on to a roar of cheers and applause, and the spotlight was immediately on Karen O, dressed in neon, and smiling from ear to ear. Her energy was so contagious! And her voice, so transformative, able to squeal and moan in true rock'n'roll fashion, and sing "Yeah Yeah Yeahs love song[s]" like Maps, influencing fans to hug their neighbours and sway in unison to the cool vocals and hypnotic drums and melody. My only wish? That I could have seen the stage better, but that had nothing to do with the venue, Kool Haus, and everything to do with my height, 5'0". It was a really special night, and I'm contemplating going again tonight, to do the whole thing over again.

High energy - fantastic connection to the crowd. Not what I was expecting at all - much more raw. Really enjoyed.

    YYY's demolish Kool Haus.

by WiredRacing on 2009-08-05Kool Haus - Toronto

Karen O and the boys tore it up just as I expected them to. They sound great live, good sound mix too. They held the energy song after song after song. The crowed love them, they loved the crowd. You could tell they were having a blast and that's when live sets are at their best. I'd go see them again tonight if I could find tickets. One of the best live shows I've seen. The only thing missing was "Down Boy".

    Yeah Yeah Yesssss!!!

by Frenchkonnexion on 2009-08-05Kool Haus - Toronto

Wow! I rarely saw a show with that much energy. It was the 1st time that I saw the Yeah Yeah Yeahs live, and Karen O really knows how to front a rock band! All of the band members seemed to be happy to be on stage and perform, and they played a good selection of songs from their latest album "It's Blitz", as well as from their back catalogue. I only wish they had played "Black Tongue"... Opener Amanda Blank's set was OK, until she started singing a song with the chorus "I might like you better if we slept together". It wasn't exactly a cover of the song "Never say Never" but it had the same chorus (with a slightly different tune). More like a ripoff. It made me wonder if all of her songs "borrowed" their lyrics from existing songs. The set design for the show was pretty cool: A giant eyeball surrounded by a blue sparkly spiral, with the occasional confettis falling from the ceiling. Karen was jumping and bouncing all over the stage, taking sips of water and spitting it in the air (didn't she use to do that with beer?). The crowd was pretty lively too, which is kind of exceptional for Toronto. All in all, it was a concert that I will remember for a long time!

    Great show last night!

    by lsteven2 on 2009-08-05Kool Haus - Toronto

The band put on a great show at Kool Haus last night. Karen O had the crowd eating out of the palm of her sweaty little hand. Her eccentricities come out unfiltered and unmuted - exactly what you want out of an artist. Catch them if you can!

by YYYFan on 2009-08-05Kool Haus - Toronto

If you are a YYY fan or have any interest you HAVE to see them live, they were absolutely incredible. The energy and the performance from Karen is one of the best i have seen in 20 years of going to concerts. The only negative was the crappy lighting which was blinding at times, if tickets are available for tonight's show i will prob go again. YYY are just awesome.

by michmara on 2009-08-05Kool Haus - Toronto

The show at the Kool Haus on August 4th was fantastic. They have so much energy, they played the right mix of new and old stuff, the music selection did not disappoint. Karen O is awesome, I didn't know what she was going to do next. They totally rocked it, will check them out again next time they come to T.O. Awesome show.
