I went so see YES, but instead I got NO

by Jerryc on 2017-10-02Massey Hall - Toronto

NO it wasn't YES NOt without Steve Howe. if I could give this zero stars I would. Would it be RUSH without Alex Lifeson? NO Would it be Zeppelin without Jimmy Page? NO I managed to actually stay for one horrid song, then got up and walked out. After seeing hundreds of concerts, I've only walked out of two shows. One was Nazareth, and only because McCafferty was literally wincing as he tried to sing (either he was sick or he damaged his voice, he was waaaay off). I saw them again a year later and he was in top form. NO (although they call themselves YES) wasn't worth a dollar let alone the price I paid for this ticket. Avoid this mess like the plague, this was the WORST show ever.

    Yes with ARW was awesome

    by Moose007 on 2017-09-19Massey Hall - Toronto

Bucket list show in an awesome venue, for a classic prog rock band nothing beats the intimacy and acoustics of Massey Hall, wish I had ponied up for the meet and great, and had front row, but just happy to se them.. Roundabout sent chills up my spine!

    Long Time Coming

    by 4harty2b on 2017-09-19Massey Hall - Toronto

How many years have we been waiting to hear Jon Anderson sing YES songs with the band. Finally...and he didn't disappoint. Sure it was finally a treat to hear him sing with Jean Luc Ponty, but tonight was YES music. YES music with whatever version of YES members were on stage. And it all started with Wakeman making his way on stage with his cape on. A moment just in itself. But to hear Jon reach those Jon notes on classics SSOTS, HOTS, AYAI and Awaken were well worth the standing 'O' he received from me. With Rabin manning the guitar, certainly the songs that he helped write during his years with the band, were played perfectly. He has an edge to his style that Mr. Howe doesn't and the evening was definitely a rock and roll night. They rocked Rhythm of Love and I am Waiting was a masterpiece. Owner blew the house down. It rivaled Starship Trooper as the ultimate powerful last song before the encore. I certainly looked to Rabin on those Mr. Howe riffs from the classic songs and was at times a bit wishful of Mr. Howe being on stage. Wakeman was masterful. A treat to listen to. With this version of the band I will say that the drummer proved his worth by keeping the songs at their original pace. That helped make the evening the powerhouse show that it was. But I came to hear/see Jon and Rick and for me it was another stellar YES evening.

    A Spectacular Evening with YES

by cheaphead on 2017-09-19Massey Hall - Toronto

Every song was familiar, Anderson's voice was spot on, brought back many memories. Good spectrum mix of all eras.

art rock proggers keep on keeping on

    by Avalon58 on 2017-09-19Massey Hall - Toronto

I am a big 70's art/prog rocker at heart, so anytime a band such as Yes comes to town, I am there. I was very impressed the last few times this band graced a stage in Ontario, but was somewhat dubious this time. 49 years after Anderson helped found the band, his vocals were surprisingly strong. But it kind of stopped there, for me anyway. Wakeman rested on his laurels and simply put his keyboards on cruise control. Without Squire (RIP) or Howe (my condolences) or White, it simply was not Yes. Granted Rabin & Co. did a fine job with the complexity of the music, but I reiterate, it simply was not Yes. So for a die hard fan, it was a letdown. For a newbie, I am sure the show impressed. I doubt I will see them again though, and will fondly remember the good 'ole days.
