York United FC History
York United FC is a professional soccer club in the Canadian Premier League. Founded as the York9 FC in 2018, the club’s creation was the first announced ahead of the Canadian Premier League’s inaugural 2019 season. The team also holds the distinction of competing and scoring the first goal in the CPL’s inaugural game, which ended in a 1–1 draw against Forge FC. The two clubs have now formed a regional rivalry dubbed the 905 Derby after their shared area code. York9 was renamed to York United Football Club in 2020, along with a new team crest and colors. In 2023, York United FC recorded a club-record 11 wins and advanced to the play-in round of the playoffs.

York United FC at York Lions Stadium
York Lions Stadium, home of York United FC, is the outdoor, multipurpose sports facility located on York University’s Keele Campus in the North York neighborhood of Toronto, Ontario. Opening in 2015, the 4,000-seat stadium experienced its first major expansion in 2021 when the surrounding running track was removed for a larger playing surface. At home matches, York United FC are cheered on by supporters’ groups such as Generation IX, The Green Lions, Dames of York, Centre of the Universe, The Northern Corridor and Eastenders 416.
