Good Dance but some story not true

    by Tiezi0 on 2015-01-22Sony theatre - Toronto

I watched this show in Sony theatre Toronto last night, The dance and costume are really beautiful as expected, but they promote FaLun Dafa by fighting against the Chinese Government in part of the Show which is not true. Some Chinese people in China who practice FaLun Dafa hurt themselves, that's why Chinese government don't want people to practice. They also say there is no such show in China now, that's not right, I went back China last year and watched many Chinese traditional dancing shows like this, some of them even better. Communist doesn't against Chinese culture at all, they are Chinese fist, then Communist, which is just a party. Indeed, China has hundreds of Dancing Academies practice and perform Chinese Traditional dances, I suggest all western people who are interested in Chinese Culture go to China to have a feeling by themselves.

Shen Yun is unlike any other performance

by RVETSports on 2015-01-11National Arts Centre - Ottawa

You really have to see Shen Yun - it's pure beauty, grace, music - there are no other shows like it. I felt really uplifted and happy after watching the show. It's a great introduction to true Chinese culture and how it used to be - we can all learn a lot from Shen Yun. If we did the world would be a better place for sure!

    Shen Yun was okay

by SAKC on 2015-01-08National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

The dancing, music and costumes were very good. The MC's were too "Disney" and the singers could be left out. Either it was the inadequate acoustics or it was the level of singer but they left a sour note in our minds. The instrumentalist was very good. $450 for 4 tickets was too much.

Beautiful to watch with a few surprises; soprano and tenor solos. I found the show a bit long.

    Shen Yun was breathtaking

by Sandhya on 2015-01-07National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

Executed with such perfection and attention to detail. A real feast for the eyes. The vocal renditions were also super. The traditional Chinese instrumental piece was simply divine.

    Shen Yun was very impressive

by Bobdaman on 2015-01-06National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

My wife and I really enjoyed the show, and definitely would recommend it to all family members. We went to an afternoon show, and there was a lot of young kids there, who seemed to have like the show also. A historical visit of a strange land, and people, who have given a condensed story, a 5000 year time frame, with beautiful dance and costumes. The work involved was obvious, and the music was very enjoyable. I would like to see it again.

    Shen Yun

by NannyAng on 2015-01-06National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

I should have done more research into what I was going to see. The costumes, music and technology were impressive but I was unprepared for the Falun Dafa propaganda and found it offensive.the two people who introduced each scene were not needed and annoying.

    Had higher expectations..

by Daisie1 on 2015-01-06National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

I was extremely disappointed. I had heard so many things about Shen Yun for the last couple years that I finally ended up buying tickets. Unfortunately, the quality that was talked about previously wasn't there this year... Some of the dances were ok, but otherwise it was just really repetitive and the second half felt more like a propaganda then a dance show. I love learning about different cultures which is why I was so excited about it, but the show fell flat. Unless they the quality goes back up, I wouldn't recommend.

    Not what we were expecting

by FourFox on 2015-01-06National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

The dancers were great, as expected. The costumes and colours were beautiful. The orchestra was fantastic. But overall, the format of the show was off-putting. I didn't enjoy or appreciate the narration between each performance; it disrupted the flow for me. The singing solos were not to my taste, but the instrumental one was great. I would say I truly enjoyed only about half of the show, based purely on the skill of the dancers. I would not recommend this to anyone, particularly for the price we paid for the tickets. Over-hyped.

    Pretty but slow

by Anonymous on 2015-01-06National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

The music and special effects were great. So we're ge costumes. And although the dancing was very artistic, we found it a bit slow. We decided to leave at intermission as we were nodding off. We were a bit disappointed as we love dance. It was a pretty performance but too slow. Each new dance was introduced by two emcees who explained the story in English, French and Chinese. This was distracting. Perhaps just let the visual tell its own story?

    Shen Yun was very disappointing

by 218Kiwi on 2015-01-06National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

Well some of the dancing was wonderful and the costumes were spectacular. But the show is from New York (not China), and came across as promoting a religious cult. It was too long by about an hour and needed a storyline. I was very disappointed and would not want to see the show again. (very) not recommended.

Shen Yuen was so so - no excitement.

by Fastedy on 2014-12-31Hamilton Place Theatre - Hamilton

We left at the first intermission. The music and dance was pretty much repetitious. Only one solo singer in Chinese. At announced intermission no announcement that things would be different or spectacular in the next segment. We were not enjoying the first part so no reason to stay.
