About

Dweezil Zappa was born on September 5, 1969, in Los Angeles, the son of the iconic musician Frank Zappa. Over the past three decades, Dweezil has carved out an eclectic and illustrious career that spans music, television, film, and entrepreneurship.

A Grammy-winning guitarist, Dweezil has left an indelible mark on the music industry with over 2000 concerts performed worldwide. Known for his masterful performances and deep connection to his father's music, he's returning to concert stages in 2024 for the first time since the 2020 Hot Ratz Live! Tour, continuing to guide fans through the thrilling and sophisticated world of his father's music.

His virtuosity on the guitar is matched only by his prolific compositional skills, which have generated numerous original works spanning multiple albums including "Confessions of Deprived Youth" (1991) and "Via Zammata" (2015). Notably, his compositions have even been performed by a 100-piece orchestra in Holland, showcasing his versatility and command of orchestral arrangements. His music effortlessly traverses genres, seamlessly weaving together elements of rock, fusion, and experimental sounds, all while maintaining a signature style that is unmistakably his own. In addition to his solo work, Dweezil has collaborated with an impressively varied roster of artists, including Edward Van Halen, Deep Purple, Lisa Loeb, Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock and Steve Vai, among others.

In 2020, Dweezil further solidified his reputation as a pioneer in the industry by completing construction on "Hikari," a state-of-the-art multimedia studio. As a sought-after audio mix engineer, he showcased his expertise by crafting the stereo and Atmos mixes for the 50th anniversary re-release of Deep Purple's legendary album "Machine Head" in 2024, cementing his status as a unique voice in sound engineering.

Beyond his artistic pursuits, Dweezil is deeply passionate about music education. He frequently shares his knowledge and expertise by teaching guitar, both through his own music camp, "Dweezilla," and online lessons. His collaborative spirit has led him to work with a diverse array of musicians all while honoring the legacy of his father, Frank Zappa.

In all his endeavors, Dweezil remains committed to upholding integrity and pushing the boundaries of technology and creativity. As he continues to innovate and inspire, Dweezil Zappa stands as a true luminary in the world of music and beyond.

    Excellent show...much talent on display

by Matt S. on 2019-09-30Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

This was a very worthwhile show and I'm really glad I was able to go. Frank only employed virtuoso musicians, and Dweezil operates by the same standards. All the players and singers were absolutely top-notch. The material was of course all Frank's, and all of it was very well done. If you are at all interested in this tour, you should love it.

    Electrifying

by Chief Tom on 2019-09-30Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

Dweezil and the Hot Rats played a stellar rendition of his father’s 50 y/o smash album Hot Rats, and more! In every aspect, (sound, instrumentation, theatrics) the concert was a wonder. A pleasant surprise was Dweezil explaining the intricacies of the music, to help set up each song. More than just a flashback in time, the Dweezil and the other musicians owned the material!! Bravo!?

    Dweezil Zappa

by Rick from Winnipeg on 2019-09-29Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

An amazing performance by a well-rehearsed and tightly directed group of musicians. This show with its multi-instrumentalists and virtuoso players exceeded expectations. The band responded to the energy of the crowd and grew more enthusiastic through the show. It is obvious when a group of performers enjoy themselves - their performances, the smiles on their faces - added to the eclectic of Frank and Dweezil's music. Five out of five!

Excellent band, playing the music I grew up on. Much less time on guitar solo's than I expected.

    Dweezil Zappa

by Lars on 2019-09-29Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

Dweezil Zappa and his band of extremely talented musicians put on a superb performance. His pop - Frank's album Hot Rats was played in it's emtitety note for note including all subtle effects. The next batch (es) of songs were executed flawlessly. The individual talents of the band were far beyond most at what would be playing exttemely difficult songs. The singers sang in 4 part harmony. The two women were spot on ballsy when needed. All in all a massive performance by a massive band. 5 ***** Should not be missed.

    Great night with Zappa!

by Peter C on 2019-09-29Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

Dweezil and his band do an unbelievable job of bringing Frank’s music to life. Dweezil’s own musical abilities are more than impressive and he is fantastic guitar player. The care they take in re-producing Frank’s music is beautiful and I hope they continue their journey. I’m a fan for life!

    by B. S. on 2019-09-29Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

That was the best show I’ve been to in a long time it was about as good as when I saw Frank in 76. Was so glad that Deeezil didn’t have any warm up bands etc like the time he was here with Dream Theatre this was the 3rd time I got to see him at the Burt and it was the best show . Bring him back as soon as you can get him

    Excellent!

by CanuckCurt on 2017-04-28Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

I've seen the Dweez 8 or 9 times now, and this show was definitely one of the top ones, not that the others were bad by any means. There's been a minor lineup change to the musicians from previous years, and the new person (I won't spoil it) added a lot to the selection of songs they played, much to my surprise. The only minor disappointment is that while Dweezil signed a lot of items, the rest of the band took off instead of doing a meet and greet as in previous years. No big deal though. The show clocked in at just over 2 hours.

Great show all around. Originals along with a few covers. The EPIC 80s medley of itself is worth the ticket price. Must see.

    Dweezil

by Flipper153 on 2013-10-23Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Toronto

The artist doesn't have to do these master classes, the artist chooses to do these events. Dweezil was friendly, generous and knowledgeable. He took the time to answer questions and his techniques were amazing. Poor guy was exhausted from his rigorous schedule but still ran overtime with the small, intimate group.

    Dweezil does it again!

by Zion99 on 2010-06-21Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

An excellent array of musicianship formed and fused by an ever evolving master prodigy, all together playing a master's collection of unforgettable muzak. Dweezil and his band have definitely put thought, time and major effort into this polished display of musical exploits creating a "movie for the ears". Treat yourself to some nostalgia with some "music from the other side of the fence". Close your eyes, open your ears and enjoy the ride... Viva la Zappa!

    A different dweezil

by fido3 on 2010-06-21Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

After having now seen ZPZ 5 times I can say that this last time was not my favorite show. The new singer, while he can sing there is no doubt , just doesn't quite fit the mold of the band or the music. Dweezil always comes through as a great show with the rest of the group, maybe Ben just needs to "Frank it up" a bit .

by mundok on 2010-06-18Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

I don't think I took a breath for the first three songs, after that I sat like a quivering mass of jello drooling from the side of my mouth. I didn't clap or move. Before me played the Master. I am finished now, there's no sense in seeing any other live music.
